“Very good family getaway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Stopped here on a Friday to Monday sun holiday deal. It cost us £110 for an upgraded caravan with all electric gas and passes for 3 people. The caravan had three bedrooms was very clean and modern. The bar was fine very nice decor and typical kids disco bingo etc. we went swimming Saturday which my daughter of 2yrs loved. Other than that we used the site to visit the lakes and Kendal which were lovely. Silloth has a Sunday car boot which is ok and local take aways. The solway holiday village bars and food place is about expensive but you can walk into Silloth centre or take your own food. Generally we enjoyed our stay and found the site fine. Didn't go to the farm or on little train as we never received info on opening times etc but you could always ask reception the staff are really friendly. We'd go back :@)

We stayed in a caravan with our 2 children having booked through the daily mirror deal, we were very impressed on arrival was clean and very spacious and more than we had expected. The entertainment was good and the kids enjoyed it, the swimming pool was clean and warm, there is also soft play which was ok and a children's park which was well maintained. Silloth is a small place but can recommend the ice cream parlour and we had a lovely drive to Allonby for a Sunday lunch. Overall we had a lovely weekend away which cost less than £100

We had villa's with hot tub that only worked for one day of the four days holiday and was only offer 10% off our next trip we paid £100 extra to have a hot tub for the four days? We had not electricity when we arrived, the whole service in that site was dreadful! You are miles from anywhere the local town is a ghost town. Go somewhere else.

We stayed for a week in a Coniston Chalet plus which has a hot tub and the hot tub I would say to everyone pay the bit extra to have one. General pub food in the restaurant. but we didn't stay to eat as we decided the best thing for us would be to go off camp to eat, as we could not get in to the nightly entertainment due to the fact both myself and daughter are disabled and the entertainment venue is upstairs and there is no lift to be able to get you to it. So we went to pubs outside to make a night of it, Advice to anyone not able to climb stairs give the camp a miss if your main aim like ours usually is to sight see during the day and then watch entertainment at night and have a few drinks before going back to sleep. The swimming pool has disabled access and changing room but the showers are down steps so again in some ways not accessible. Although we did not get a brochure so do not know if this is stated on the brochure, we looked on line and it wasn't stated on there also we phoned to book and the only thing that was stated was the hot tub would have steps into it but my husband lifted my daughter in to that.
There is a bar where you can get a drink but this just had the big screen up for you to watch football ok for some but not my cup of tea.
The chalet was big and although not A1 standard definitely not as bad as some make out and the beds were comfy which makes a change. Cooker could have been replaced. The electric metre takes pound coins and we used about 10 for the week which I don't think is to bad.

Room Tip: Definitely book a hot tub chalet

I was a little bit worrid before going to solway village as i had read some reviews on here that weren't very good.

We went as part of the sun deal which we do year after year to various different places. I upgraded our caravan which was great as you can't usually do this having a dog. This give us more space, double glazing with central heating.

You do get what you pay for but as we only used this as a Base it was great for us to venture out every day.

I can't comment on the entertainment as we didn't use it but for what we wanted it was fine .

In this world you get what you pay for and thats what this park is all about.

The chalet was suprisingly large and suited our family of 2 adults and 2 kids just fine.
1 double bed, 2 single beds, 2 sofas, dining table and 4 chairs, TV, Freeview, small kitchen, bathroom with bath and shower. The only problem was the shower which had no water power at all and just dribbled water when it was full on.

Be warned that there is very little to do on the site during the day, the swimming pool is fine but everything else is closed, and the farm is a farm...

But there is loads to do in the surrounding area or within a 30 minute drive. We spent the morning drinking coffee. chilling and making lunch while the kids went swimming and we spent the afternoons exploring the area.

The bar food on site is standard pub grub and not too exciting, pizzas are good, so we ate there a few nights but we also asked a local in the town where to eat and they said the "Golf Hotel" so we ate there a few nights and the food was excellent and cost about £1.50 more per meal that the on-site food but was well worth it.

In the evenings there is a bar with not too pricey booze, music, TV, and the usual kids entertainment. Spot on for a few hours after an evening meal and before bed.

we went back to solway holiday village on 20th april 2013. this time we had a ullswater chalet. it was a lot better than the caravan we had last year. very spacious, and although you had to pay for the electricity it was surprisingly low cost. we had the heating going 24/7 some days, and we never used £7.00 for the full week. the staff as always were very friendly and any problems are dealt with quickly. if your looking for a 5* chalet go somewhere else, but for the price we paid it was more than adequate for our needs.clean- comfortable-large lounge-large bathroom with shower and bath. kitchen was adequate but could have used more storage space. basic tv channels. my only real complaint is there needs to be a hoover to clean the carpets not a bex bissel push along. as i said in my previous review, we only used this as a base. ideal for us to visit family who live in cumbria and also to explore the lake district. i would recommend a sat nav if you dont know the area..all in all value for money. oh and the dog loved it as well especially the walks along the sea front in silloth.
