“Coeliac friendly”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

There's not a lot of choice along the main street at Silloth and I must admit that I wasn't expecting much based on the front of the premises. How wrong I was. We went through to a very welcoming room with shabby chic furniture and a whole wall dedicated to Kathleen Ferrier (Mrs Wilson), a beautiful singer who grew up in Silloth. Friendly waiters welcomed us with a taster sample to get the appetite peaked. This was a lovely idea. The chef knew his stuff about gluten-free (and the kitchen issues usually associated with the coeliac condition). We had jacket potatoes with pulled pork in barbecue sauce, served with salad and a chunky homemade coleslaw. It was delicious. We found the staff very approachable, and while we were there a number of other groups (including children) looked as if they were also enjoying their meals. A lovely lunch experience, and one that I will return to at my next visit to Silloth.

“not child friendly”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

we were at silloth my husband, my 2 year old and i and called in for a spot of lunch, we had picked a table to sit at and our son walked around the cafe and back to us to sit down and before we even got our bums on the seats a man from behind the counter in a horrible manner shouted keep your child under control in front of everyone so we picked up our things and put our son back in his pushchair and walked out disgusted, it was the fact our son only walked around then went to sit down with us he did nothing wrong and never said a word we will never go back there son don't take your children here. we often go to silloth but not to here ever again.

Having read your review I can comment as follows:
Your review is factually incorrect.
You will have been aware of the sign we have by the front door stating that well behaved children are very welcome & requesting all children to be seated at the table with their parents. Unfortunately, unsupervised children are not always conducive to a relaxed atmosphere for other patrons to enjoy their time whilst at Mrs Wilson's. Also from a safety point of view, young children running/wandering around the tables is not a good idea.
It should therefore have come as no surprise that you were, politely asked to seat your 2 year old son, who you had left to wander around the coffee shop. However, I am surprised that you are able to comment at all, as you had left the room to go to the ladies at the time! The reason your husband was asked to seat your son was because it was impossible for him to keep an eye on him from where he was sat. No one raised their voice & as your husband was seated close to the counter, no one else would have been able to hear either.
It is unfortunate that you objected to having your son sit with you at the table but we do have to consider all the health & safety implications & not forgetting other diners enjoyment.

“A geat addition to Silloth”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

Mrs Wilsons coffee shop has recently opened in Silloth and is a welcome addition to the facilities in SIlloth, the owners have spent a great deal of time and I suspect money to open a beautifully decorated venue which has a small but very nice menu with excellent service by the staff, take time to read the wall decoration which gives a brief glimpse into the history of one of SIlloths notable residents. We visit every time we go to Silloth and have never been disappointed.

“Nice little cafe, a bit pricey”
Reviewed June 28, 2014 via mobile

Was the only place in silloth we could eat in at 3pm on a Monday. Was lovely food but a but overpriced, restaurant prices for a small cafe with a cafe menu. Came to £25 for 1 sandwich, a slice of bread with ham and tomatoes, a plate of nachos and 3 drinks. Can't fault the quality of the food and was a lovely atmosphere but there was a sandwich shop next door which would have been less than half the price.

Thank you RosieKay for taking the time to write a review of your recent visit to Mrs Wilson's. I'm pleased that you enjoyed your food & the atmosphere of our coffee shop. However I'd like to clarify some of the issues you raise regarding our prices.
Our ham & tomato sandwich is made with 2 slices of bread, our own cooked ham & served with side salad & homemade coleslaw & only costs £3.95. You didn't state which nachos you had. We offer a big bowl of melted mozzarella cheese, chillies, nachos, salsa, sour cream & guacamole for £4.99 or loaded nachos with bbq pulled pork for £6.50. So far that's either £8.94 or £10.43.
You haven't said what drinks you had but all our drinks are very realistically priced. Every coffee has two shots of espresso. Large americano £1.90, latte £2.30, .cappuccino £2.40. So your bill would at the most would have been a very reasonable £17.63.
I do hope, if you return to Silloth, you'll visit Mrs Wilson's again
Best wishes
