We have just returned from a second extended family gathering for Christmas in Uppergate Barn. Last year we hoped it would live up to the expectations of a holiday home for Christmas which it more than did. This year we needed it to live up to the memories of the first visit, which it did again with ease, with the extra bonus that The Butchers Arms was open this time!
The accommodation itself is warm and welcoming and spotlessly clean. The layout makes it perfect for family gatherings with plenty of room for everyone to both spread out and come together. The lounge has a woodburner for cosy winter evenings with a plentiful supply of logs and the underfloor heating ensures every corner is warm and toasty. We found that the minstrel gallery was superb hangout for our teenage children, allowing them their own space without being in bedrooms. The kitchen is well equipped - we cooked Christmas lunch for 9 with ease.
We love the swimming pool complex - again, spotlessly clean, and the booking system means we have not yet shared the pool with other groups. The sauna is just bliss on a cold, damp day as is the hot tub. Separate towels are provided for use in the pool so you don't have to pack your own.
As teenagers, our children weren't up early enough to meet Farmer Steve and feed the animals but this would have been a big draw when they were younger as would the play equipment. They did take advantage of the games barn though, especially table tennis.
Hepworth itself is beautiful and we have found it to be a really friendly and welcoming village. There are lots of scenic and river walks right from the doorstep and we did not find it necessary to go further afield. A collection of Wellies to borrow are available in the small shop.
As mentioned above, The Butchers Arms has recently reopened and we wish it and the landlady Georgina every success. It provided everything you would want from a country pub in winter - open fires, real ales and board games. There are also at least four other drinking establishments within walking distance, making a nice little pub crawl if you feel so inclined! We ate at The Oil Can Cafe and The Fox House Inn on both visits and would definitely recommend.
We have stayed in many cottages around the UK over the years but Uppergate Barn is the only one we have thought special enough to return to. Thank you Steve, Alison and team and hopefully we will see you again soon.

We have just returned from a weekend staying in the most beautiful accommodation in the most idyllic setting! The Rowan Yurt is beyond stunning, with all the essentials included that you could imagine!
The decor is stunning and the little details so thoughtful - homemade jam, fresh bread, toiletries, fairy lights, cosy socks, bath robes!!
The owners are very friendly and helpful too, local information was in abundance which made our trip even more enjoyable.
We will definitely be returning and can’t wait!

We had a two night glamping break in the Rowan yurt for a special birthday. It was perfect. For somebody who hates camping, a hot tub with fairy lights, underfloor heating, super king size bed, comfy armchairs, fully equipped kitchen and spotless bathroom were just the ticket! Absolutely everything had been thought of, from slipper socks and dressing gowns to champagne glasses, books, board games and homemade bread and jam. Gorgeously cosy on a wet weekend, we didn't even need the log burner on. Fabulous pool which you can have to yourselves, honesty farm shop and lovely welcome from the owners. Beautiful location, less than ten minutes drive from Holmfirth where we had a superb meal at The Whippet and Pickle and enjoyed exploring the shops and cafes. Highly recommended for a weekend to remember.

Couldn't fault the accommodation. Lovely touches such as a fresh loaf and bread and homemade jam waiting for us when we arrived. The pool, sauna and steam room were fab and we used the pool every day. Loved the animals and the little woodland walk where the pigs live. We plan to come back and bring more of the family.

We liked the swimming, the park and feeding the animals. Steve the farmer was very nice and helped us collect the eggs. We have been 4 times and can't wait to go again.
Our cottage was lovely and there were games to play. We had lots of days out and went to the pub for tea.
