“Never Disappointed”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We have been to this comfortable restaurant on several occasions for lunch and whether we take the "menu du jour" or one of the other, more expensive menus, the service, attention to detail, and flavour of the dishes is of a consistently high standard. The chef likes to please the eye with lots of colours and tastes in his presentation of the vegetable purées which accompany the main dishes. Fish or meat, always good quality produce with most things made in house. The cheese trolley is excellent and home made "amuses buches " with your apéritif and "petit fours" with coffee complete what is always a pleasant way while away a lunch time.
The view over the Dordogne and Sainte Foy la Grande is pleasing all the year round. There is always a warm welcome in this restaurant and this team aims to please. Bon Appetit!

“A lovely restaurant with a great view”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

The food is wonderful with lots of fish on the menu. We visited in October so it was a little quiet but we thought it would be fab in the summer. I would recommend this restaurant.

“Esthetic interior design increases the pleasure of the palate”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Finally a French Restaurant without "Louis Toujours" furniture or hay waggon wheels on the wall. It's strictly black and white interior with straight lines, sqaure slate plates upon which the dishes are served, and the absence of superfluous "baroque" decoration one so often finds in French Restaurants are pleasing to the eye. When to visit this restuarant the speciality of which are fish and "fruit de mer" dishes, you should stick to their offer of the "poisson du jour". We were a group of 8 membes of the Dordgone Boyz' Club, had a nice long table from which everybody had an excellent view on three filets of "Dorade Royale" - a sea bream - could not have been better; the skin was easy to be removed and the cooking was "à point", just to preserve a little "bite resistance" that complemented the taste. The presentation on the platter corresponded to the style of the house: the helping was distributed upon the platter in a hamonious pattern, as could have been expected. Quite naturally fish knife and fork were served, which at "La Trompette" at Hammersmith, London, a restaurant boasting French cusine did not offer to its clients, even upon express request! The wine list of "Au Fil de l'Eau" is not very extensive, concentrating upon local Appellations, but offering good value Bergeracs at 15 € for a 75 cl bottle, going up to 83 € for a Puligny-Montrachet. For those who want that "little extra" at a reasonable price level in a pleasant atmosphere, that's the place to go.

“Fine cuisine”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Loved the excuisite food and glass wall overlooking the dordogne.
More a couples place rather than a family restaurant and a wee bit pricey but couldn't fault the high standard of food !

“Style over substance?”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

Amid the 38 degree heat of mid-August in rural southwest France it was a refreshing change to sit down in a modern, fully air-conditioned and very clean and crisp restaurant. Wooden floors, white walls, glass atrium overlooking the river Dordogne (actually, the concrete supports of the road bridge into Ste Foy).
They are obviously trying hard - amuse-bouches, well times service and well presented plates of food. The menu is ambitious and nearly each dish has lots of little extras. However, while my veal chop was decent - morel sauce was perhaps a little plain - my fellow diners thought their food a little disappointing: lobster tail was tough and required a steak knife, the lamb shank was also tough and a little tasteless. You were left with the feeling of them not quite being able to deliver on what what should have been good plates of food - the menu was well chosen with decent if slightly predictable combinations. Cheese trolley was excellent.
This was not a bad meal - it just did not match expectations set by the smart interior and attentive service.
