The East India Company had offices here to buy muslin and other cotton fabrics. A rich Hindu merchant class followed. Many built palatial houses along this street. Today is is largely a ruin. Access is available to several houses. From one to the right at the entrance you can get a grand view down the road from an upper floor. The size of the houses and the richness of carvings oozes wealth. Most of the houses date from early in the 19th century. Your camera will be busy.
