Gualdo del Re
Reviewed June 14, 2011

Our 5th visit to tuscany but first to the Maremma. Gualdo del Re is an easy drive from Pisa Airport and ideally located for trips to the beach.
We were travelling with our 10 month old baby and found the apartment and gardens to be ideal for a holiday with babies/toddlers and are planning to return next year.
On the down side the apartment was not equipped with a kettle - which would have been handy for preparing feeds for the baby and the tiled floors caused a few heart stopping moments, but these little things were hardly blips and would not be an issue if our baby was not so young and wobbly on her feet. In short the apartment was gorgeous.
The grounds breathtaking and the pool was fab, the baby pool in particular was ideal.

We had breakfast at the farm house which is a short distance away but does involve travelling on a narrow public road, possible to walk but again, not ideal or so safe with a buggy.
My husband loved the breakfast but for me it lacked variety and did not reflect the quality of the apartments - I would have liked to see fresh cakes / cheeses presented each day, and the fruit bowl could have been refreshed more often. Two bananas were out the first day we arrived, we ate one, the next day we ate the next and never saw a banana again...The service and coffee however were fab.
In fact all the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and I get the impression would do all they could to make sure our stay was enjoyable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Gualdo to my friends with small children or friends who are looking to discover another part of Tuscany away from the normal tourist trail.
My only regret was not having enough space in our luggage to take home some of the wine and olive oil produced on the estate - perhaps next time!

Gualdo del Re is a first class, quiet, rural Tuscany setting. More a villa than a hotel. Rooms are nicely-appointed, comfortable, clean, beautifully built. Lots of tile and stone and a large patio between the two buildings. The generous grounds include a gorgeous pool and barbeque area, with beautiful landscaping. The Winery and restaurant are about a half mile up the road. We had a superb 7-8 course dinner accompanied by wonderful Gualdo wines.

A beautiful place to go with friends and family. You can sample and prepare the food you pick up at Conad. You can go into the village and experience local food. Beautiful units with full kitchens with all the essentials for cooking. The units are very roomy and accommodate many. The wine and olive oils available are superb. Balaconies and outside seating with a fabulous pool area. Washer/dryer also avaiable. The continental breakfast is outstanding with all important wonderful cappuccino or espresso. Kick back and enjoy the south Tuscan sun and countryside. The way that Italy is supposed to be discovered.

Room Tip: Upper floor with more natural light.

This apartment was huge! It was clean and really well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped. The grounds were really beautiful with flowers everywhere. They had free laundry which was really nice for us since our stay here was toward the end of our trip. The pool is beautiful. We had a wonderful 4 course meal at the restaurant which was combined with a wine tasting. I highly recommend doing this. Gualdo del Re makes both wine and olive oil. The staff was very friendly and tried to help us check in for a flight at the end of our stay. It is not far from the sea and some beautiful beaches.
