“Historical house in a secret village”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Marradi is a small village, located 65 km away from Florence and known for its chestnuts of the top quality. I found the place very quiet, beautiful and romantic with its historical appearance and the secretive mood of the small old village-setting surrounded by mountains.
Palazzo Torriani was a building of the amazing historical value. The house built in 16th century was like a museum itself. The rooms were decorated with real antique firnichures and paintings. I felt as if I became a part of a noble family in that age. What is more, I could meet a nice and friendly host Anna Maria and her family and enjoyed their great meals, which made my stay very special. It was far more than a B&B experience.
Marradi is accessible from Firenze by car or train, but, easier to get there if you use Bologna Airport. I would recommend a plan to spend some time in Marradi first and then visit Firenze on your way back.

When we booked the suite at the Palazzo Torriani at the last minute, we did not really know what to expect. But when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by our host Anna Maria, her daughter Mariaemilia, and her husband Antonio who greeted us with a feast of local food and drink specialties and immediately made us feel right at home. The family arranged guided tours of Faenza, Brisighella, Ravenna and gave us Italian cooking lessons. We learned so much about Italian dishes & wines. The owners gave us a tour of their residence and other hotel rooms. There is a lot of history there and we were honored to be part of it, too. It was a truly unforgettable experience for us and we are sure it will be for you if you stay at the Palazzo Torriani.

My wife and I stayed here as part of our honeymoon. Everything about our stay was delightful, in particular the warmth of hosts and the astounding breakfast. Anna Maria and her family went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and enjoyed our stay in Marradi. If you are looking to escape the city, we highly recommend a stay at Palazzo Torriani.

Palazzo Torriani is not your typical bed and breakfast. It's a large, beautiful house with lots of history and culture situated in the middle of a charming and quaint town. My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon here and thought it was the perfect complement of Italian countryside and local flavor to the high tourist areas like Rome and Venice that we also visited. In particular, the Palazzo Torriani's hospitality was excellent. Anna Maria was a very gracious host, always looking after us to ensure we had the best stay and we definitely did. If you're looking for warm hospitality, history and culture and excellent accommodations, my wife and I highly recommend Palazzo Torriani.

We have had a really memorable stay at Palazzo Torriani. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Anna Maria, to the moment she waved us off at the station, we've felt completely looked after, and welcomed into a family home. Come here if you are interested in history, the local culture and cuisine, because you can learn about it all from Anna Maria. Breakfast is astonishing in its variety of regional specialities.
We had dinner on one night, when she laid on a feast of local delicacies, including pheasant pate, her own pasta dishes, a delicious rabbit dish, and a beautiful meringue cake in celebration of my son's birthday, which she had noticed from his passport! So thoughtful.
The house has many historic features, but we thought that the art nouveau ceiling paintings were most notable and remarkably vibrant. It's a very calm, elegant and peaceful place. We had a suite with a little mezzanine for children with bunk beds, and the linen and towels were gorgeous. Older properties can sometimes be unappealing to children, but our seven year old had a great time. The garden is large enough for play, and there are tennis courts right next door.
In the peaceful village there is a great restaurant, El Camino, and also next door an unassuming cafe with home made gelato.
We will definitely return to this destination, and we loved Anna Maria and her husband Antonio, and Monique, who all looked after us so well.

Staying at the Pallazo Torriani is special. Not a hotel, not a regular bed and breakfast.
The house is large, beautifully restored and full with antiques. You may well be the only guests, and welcomed with honour and warm hospitality. There is a clear respect of privacy. It is as if sometimes you own the place and yet as if you are staying with family or friends.
I warm-heartedly recommend you to ask for a dinner on the premises. Wonderful home cooking that one cannot find in the best restaurant. A unique opportunity.
The owners were helping with advise and recommendations.
The location right across the church were unfortunately the road through the village is passing may be disappointing (it was to me), but is quickly forgotten once inside.

To say that our four night stay at the Palazzo Torriani was a wonderful experience
would be an understatement because to stay in this magnificent
property which is run by the most charming of hosts is nothing short
of a privilege. If this beautifully restored building was in the UK
you'd no doubt have to pay just to look around but here you can make
yourself at home in the finest and most elegant of surroundings. The
antiques alone are worthy of a special edition of the BBC's antiques
roadshow. Restored to it's former glory the owners (who's ancestors
commissioned the house to be built) will be more than delighted to
show you around, from the pre roman foundations below the property
through it's many fabulously elegant rooms all filled with stunning
paintings, furniture and ceiling decoration. Highlights for me
included a rather elaborately carved cabinet with a unique story to
tell that's linked directly to the building of the Statue Of Liberty,
a secret alter that's been blessed by the pope, original frescoes by
Galileo Chini & Silvestro lega and a family members unrestored Moto
Guzzi from the 1940's. The rooms were simply splendid - one included a
full on dining room table set for 8 and with the most stylish
turquoise art deco cabinets I've set eyes upon. The breakfast was
once again a thing if wonder. A constant succession of delicious hot
and cold food, home made biscuits and cakes. On tasting I could
instantly see why our hostess runs a cookery school here - simply
divine. My only regret was that I never had the opportunity to indulge
in dinner as we ate out each night in the town which in itself is a
lively and historic town with more than enough small traditional bars
to enjoy the daily life of an unspoilt Tuscan community. Visit the Palazzo Torriani
I applaud you -you won't regret it and you will want to return. 10/10.
