We came across this wonderful B & B when we were travelling to Agrigento in August and found all the accommodation that we had tried there was full. On our way to Agrigento from Catania by bus, we decided to stop off in Canicatti and we luckily found the Beatus B & B through the recommendation of a man in a bar near the bus station. The location of the hotel is fine and very central, but it took us a little time to find - try to ask for a card with a map on the reverse, which we didn't have at first....
Josph who owns Beatus was very friendly and welcoming. He had recently refurbished his wonderfully compact hotel and the room we had was in fact a small apartment, complete with breakfast bar and refrigerator. The room had air conditioning, TV and was spotless. Jospeh's mother-in-law is English and was wonderfully reassuring and helpful. Breakfast is taken in a nearby cafe (as is the case with many small Scilian B & B's), which was also welcoming and served tasty pastries.
I had previously visited Canicatti, but found this typical working town enjoyable to visit again. There are lots of trattorias, restuarants and take away food outlets, with some excellent gelaterias! My advice to anyone wishing to visit Agrigento, especially at the height of summer is to stay at Beatus, because the journey to the Valley of the Temples is only 30 - 40mins away by coach at the cost of £5:00 return. We loved exploring Agrigento town, but it was lovely to be away from tourist hot-spots and be part of a real Scilian experience. At 65 Euros per night, per room, this was excellent value.
