“Great place for days”
Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in a great double room with huge closet and ensuite bathroom with bathtub/shower, clean everywhere, lots of blankets, nice kitchen for guest use (or you can eat dinner with them if you tell them by 5 pm), free tea/coffee all day, good wifi, nice common area with tv, separate bar area with poll and foosball and 13 Rand beers. I didn't see the dorm rooms. they have a huge lovely yard with permanent tents for 300 rand per night, and several outdoor picnic tables. It is very close to the main street in Storms River (which is only 1 street!); close to the worlds largest bungee jump, backwater tubing, and lots of other outdoor adventures. If you just go to the main info center just off of the N2, you can get all of the free flyers and info that you want (as well as sip a coffee in front of their potbelly stove!) as well as use their computers to access the Internet!

Good location, clean and tidy but staff are poor and the manager is rude. Don't eat there - better value is available in the village (especially breakfast in the village coffee shop). If you don't have a car be prepared for very expensive ride to Storms River Mouth but the zip wire in the village is good.

i stayed 5 nights in the dorms. the place has nice facilities and is very very clean. the cleaning ladies work very hard!! the downstairs dorm means that you have to walk through the kitchen, lounge, entertainment area and bar to get to the shower which feels a bit strange. but there was always enough bathrooms for people to use. the upstairs dorm has an ensuite as well as access to other bathrooms down the hall so its even nicer. the beds were quite comfortable but a bit squeeky. the internet was good by african standards and was free.

about the staff, michelle is the absolute star of the place! she has fantastic customer service skills and was always making sure people are happy. all the time she makes sure the guests needs come first. dennis was friendly, possibly a little bit too friendly but he seems to enjoy his job. mitchell was bordering on rude, and didnt talk to me or any of the other guests that i saw. he seemed friendly to the other staff but to the guests he was blunt, always had a matter-of-fact tone of voice and didnt seem interested in what the guests wanted at all. maybe it was just a few bad days for him, not sure, but i'd expect more from a manager. the shuttle driver we had, andre, was lovely and informative (although i'm not sure he is the usual shuttle driver).

all in all i had a nice stay here and was very happy with the facilities. there are a lot of tours on offer (well explained by michelle, denny and another nice afrikaans lady) but there was never any pressure or hard sell on any of them.

Room Tip: i liked the upstairs dorm more than the downstairs one

We arrived without booking and we the staff was very friendly and showed us 2 double room. One with bathroom inside and one without. We choose the one without since the shared bathroom was clean. The room was spacious and the view just breath-taking. After a walk and dinner we came back and in the play area we played with the staff table-socker and billiard. It was very nice and they cared about their guests. They gave us some tips what we should be doing the next day and we choose to go for the waterfall walk which was very good decision. No breakfast incl.
We would definitely stay again !!

Room Tip: First floor, first room on the left.

We were placed in the en-suite room next to the bar, so till late there was a lot of noise coming from the bar. The walls are dry walling, so the noises goes trough. And as it is a double story building, the people on top of us made lot of noise. Further it was a very nice stay.

Tsitsikamma Backpackers surely is the best place to stay when you don't want to spend a lotof money and still want the privacy of a hotel. We had a double room with ensuite bathroom and all was clean and cosy. When we had a problem with the rain leaking through the gutter it was fixed the same day. It's nice to have the opportunity to have breakfast and dinner at the backpackers but they'd never urge you to have it there. There's a lot of activities and you get every information you want, besides, the staff is always friendly and eager to help. Would clearly recommend it!

It has a very good relation price-quality and it´s idieal for visiting Tsitsikamma park. Staff was nice and you have the possibility of hiring bikes or booking various activities and tours from the same hostel.
