“Flashpacking!”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

very welcoming- very clean spacious and extremely reasonably priced- we had a double ensuite with views over the mountains and front garden. You could go for a dorm- i had a quick nosey and they were more spacious than dorms i have experienced elsewhere. There are also tent options which looked better than a groundsheet on a floor as they are raised- we had quite a bit of rain so if i was camping i think it would have appealed to be a little bit off the floor. The staff gave us a very individual briefing of some local hiking trails and a good account on where we could eat, local knowledge is key and was very useful. Its the first backpackers that i have stayed in with a very pro looking questionnaire at the end of the stay- a good opportunity to say exactly what we thought- well done and thank you!

Room Tip: we were at the top of the stairs which got a little noisy when people were coming and going so maybe...

We arrived late without reservation and were offered a room in a separate, very nice two-storey house a few hundred meters away. This house only has two large rooms (the upper with balcony, the lower with direct access to garden and terrace) and is probably meant for long-term guests - but of course also great for only one night! normally a bit more expensive (700 Rand/night), but we got it for 500. But it's worth it! Rather luxurious fully-equipped kitchen (shared between the two rooms) but each had its own bathroom. Friendly owner who organized a bottle of wine and some beers, and enjoying the evening light in the garden while having a drink was definitely great! Also the main building looks nice. Only thing to keep in mind is that the next shopping opportunity (small shop at roadside gas station - small selection and quite pricey...) is some kilometres down the highway. But overall highly recommended!

Room Tip: Rooms in separate building are fantastic - but more expensive than rooms in main building

I have stayed in backpackers all around the world. This is honestly the nicest I have seen so far. Only 5 years old, it is fresh and everything is still as new. Super clean, very accommodating and great facilities (even down to the best kitchen appliances I have seen)! A must try!

We paid for 2 nights in advance but only stayed for 1. It is the only place we stayed where the staff were disinterested and the room was dirty. The staff was unwelcoming when we arrived. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned and we had a dirty towel from the previous occupants. The final straw was when our daughter picked up a used condom in the bathroom. When we informed the staff they were not interested and didn't do anything. The room was a good size and the gardens nice but it didn't make up for the unhelpful staff and the disgustingly dirty bathroom.

Hi and warning we were offeredupstairs in a beautiful house ownend by Tsitsikamma Backpackers and as nobody else stayed downstairs at the time we had whole house to ourselves. New and absolutely spotless! But had hardly a blink of sleep the first night due to a hostel next door not Tsitsikamma...... They had music blaring until early in the morning.....Second night music went on, but was cut out decent time (midnight - ish). Absolutely gorgeous place, but if you want to sleep...

We stayed in the 'Luxury Tented Units' which consisted of two single beds in a canvas tent pitched on a raised wooden platform. The tent is not massive, a 4 man at best, but the sleep is very comfortable and at the price, pretty good value. The showers and toilets are basic but do the job and relatively clean depending on the amount of 'campers' at any one time. All in all a very nice place to stay and should we pass through again, I would certainly stay over.

Loved it here. Very beautiful place, helpful staff, spotless rooms. They have info on trips, but aren't pushy. The hostel is owned by the local community, so the profits stay in the local area, so another good reason to stay there!
