Dijembe Backpackers was an awful place. I stayed there for 2 nights and I thought it was dirty, the beds weren't clean- there was hair all over my pillow and the bathrooms were filthy. I have stayed in many backpackers over the years and this is probably the worst one yet. The owner stank of booze and seemed to be in a constant daze. The girlfriend was totally cold and never once smiled. She was completely fake to me, I had a conversation with her and the next minute she went off to her German friend and said rude things about me in German behind my back. Little did she know, I understand German and can speak it!! There was no security there, and no privacy, I felt like i needed to watch my bags all the time, in case someone scratched through them and stole something! I went to the owners pizza restaurant an the place was disgusting! I could smell rotting food and there were flies everywhere. I felt sick after I ate my pizza and it was so expensive too. ---If you're going to run a backpacker, then do it properly! Keep your place CLEAN, stay SOBER while on duty, be ORGANISED, and whip your staff in to shape, it's a business not a crack den.
