Spent my husbands birthday at the hotel. Stayed in the Mulberry Suite. Had dinner in the Georgian Resturant. Room excellent, comfortable, spacious, very oppulent. The evening meal was to the highest standard. Service by Edward a lovely young man, very polite and nothing too much trouble, very knowledgable about the food being served. Leisure facilties very good, clean, warm and staff very pleasant. Only slight downside was the breakfast, the traditional English was not freshly served, beans dried up, sausages overcooked. Husband's breakfast kippers excellent.

stayed for one night on winter warmer offer. fantastic location but let down by poor sevice.
we'd had a day at the races, booked into the hotel where the receptionist's were very friendly & helpful but after, this is where the service went down hill. Thought we'd relax in the spa before having our evening meal, wish we hadn't bothered. On the room directory it stated that no children were allowed in between 5 & 7pm, even if they were they should be kept under control by their parents & above all by the spa manager. We weren't the only ones complaining about their behavior as we found out later, so out went a relaxing couple of hours!!!
Got ready & went down for dinner, bar staff again friendly but there seemed to no comunication between them & the restaurant manager as we'd already had our canepes & sorted our champagne to be served at our table when the restaurant manager came in to offer exactly the same.
The restaurant menu is a bit of a con as the winter warmer menu is very limited so much so that neither myself or my wife wanted any item from it. This forces you onto the normal manu but you then have to pay extra!!!
On sitting at our table I was seated across from acouple who were acting as though they were in a porno movie. It was plain to anyone but the restaurant staff that their behaviours was far from acceptable, but as with the spa it was completley ignored. Luckily they didn't stop for dessert!!!
The food served was good but not exceptional & the restaurant manager nowhere to be seen throughout not even on leaving as even a goodnight would have been bice. We had a query with the Bill but the waitress didn't seem too bothered so we let it go as was easier.
Breakfast!! On entering the restaurant the waiter just pointed & told us to go anywhere. On seating at our table we sat for a full 10mins without even having our tea/coffee ordered. Then another 2 couples were seated individually close by & these were offered drinks imediatley. At this I hunted the manager down to get some service. We got what was order but had to ask for sauce with our cooked breakfast & salt for the table, you'd have thought we asking for the crown jewels.
Speaking with other guest they had similar experiences, with one couple dining the same night as ourselves(but after us) finding they'd ran out of scallops & steaks which apparently my wife & I had the last ones! another told that the restaurant was full but it claerly wasn't, probably because no-one thought to order extra food
On checking out we were asked if everything was ok, which when I tried to explain n,o I was just 'fobbed off' with 'there's a questionaire to fill which goes to the manager'. What a waste of time!!!
We've stayed a the Priest House in this chain before & that was exceptional. Wood Hall on service is NOT 4 STER in our opinion. Would we go back? NO

Fabulous setting, have stayed there several times over the years but it seems to be going downhill. The "front line" staff have their hands tied by a manager who shouldn't be in charge of a B&B.

Once you have paid, he doesn't care. Obviously, the place is being run for commercial gain, but words and phrases such as "compromise", "apology" and "the customer is king" are conspicuous by their absence.

Food was ok - nothing more. Prices are way over the top and it simply isn't worth it. If anybody is already committed, I hope for your sake it has improved. If you haven't yet committed, then have a close look elsewhere.

It looks a fantastic place as you head down the long private drive in eager anticipation of a stress-busting couple of days. It was midweek half-term and the hotel was quite quiet. A friendly welcome is so important but some of the senior staff here seem to think it their job to be as aloof and standoff-ish as possible. All the staff seemed to be huddled around the small entrance desk - a scene that was oft repeated throughout our stay. There was lots of muttering before we were ushered back outside and round to a stable block around the back. These annexe rooms are OK but nowhere near as posh as others in the main house. We had paid top "rack rate" and my wife hadn't told me how much it had cost, which was certainly just as well as the final bill was eye-watering.

It was the lack of attention to detail that spoiled things. For example - soup for lunch being served with a knife and fork by a waitress who seemed to speak no English. Not being offered the children's menu. No milk for tea in the bedroom and a long wait for it to be delivered. Dust on the glass shelf so thick that I wrote "Dust Me!" in it and would be confident that you could still read it today. Shoes left outside at night for a polish (as requested) and still there (unpolished) in the morning. etc. etc.

The man seemingly in charge at the leisure area deserves special mention for being unfriendly and officious. Despite my daughters being impeccably well behaved, he took great delight in announcing they couldn't go in the pool until later (despite the fact that the times stated in the bedroom folders clearly said they could!). He then launched into a preprepared lecture on the minimum ages to use the jacuzzi/ steam room etc. in such a way as to totally ruin our supposedly relaxing afternoon. He would have been better checking the changing rooms which were piled high with dirty towels, clearly there for ages as the spa was virtually deserted. Or how about the screens on the running machines advertising hotel services that included a wedding fair to be held in 2007! And it wasn't just us - another woman with children was in tears at the way she was spoken to.

On the positive side, the main building and grounds are lovely. The breakfast was excellent and the restaurant staff very friendly. Unfortunately despite being residents we couldn't eat dinner in the restaurant as it was full both nights (with non-residents) .

If I were planning a super wedding venue or a romantic overnight just for two, then Wood Hall is certainly worth a visit. However, there are much better run places offering much more in the Yorkshire Dales. If you've got children don't even think about this place!

We've had our eye on the Handpicked hotels for a while and wanted to go to one for a couple of nights following a trip to NYC for our 10th Anniversary to unwind and relax. We opted for Wood Hall because they had a good Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal on and it looked like a tranquil spot.

We weren't disappointed, we had a very relaxing 3 days just chilling around the hotel using the Spa, and wading in the snowy fields surrounding it!

The food was excellent but only niggle was they didn't really consider many dietary restrictions. The Dinner was well presented in an elegant and exclusive dining room with a brilliant waiting-on team. Being given Champagne and Canapes was a nice surprise, and all courses we ordered were cooked very well and very good quality food.

The breakfasts which we ordered for our room were equally good, only they did forget to collect our breakfast card one morning so we had to ring them at 9.30am to ask where our breakfast was...but 15mins later it was in our room!

The only two quarms we had were firstly that the deluxe room we were allocated was not as deluxe as the one on the website, or ones we glimpsed when they were cleaning them. When we checked in we did ask to look at other rooms and selected the best one available at the time. But it still didn't quite live up to the expectations they'd set.

The second issue was with one individual member of staff who was one of the managers who clearly thought guests were beneath him. He showed it on numerous occasions and set a very bad example for his staff who thankfully didn't follow suit. Reception staff were excellent as were the staff in the restaurant, bar and leisure Spa.

I booked Wood Hall Hotel for 2nights for my husband and I's 4th wedding aniversary. We booked the break directly with the hotel on a DB&B basis (dinner on first night only), Our break just happend to co inside with the heavy snow we received here in Yorkshire and called the day before and the morning of our break to ensure that the hotel was open and accesable (it was) we actually on live 10mins from the hotel anyway but they have a long country drive which could easily cause problems.

We upgraded our room to an executive room before arrival and the room was amazing at the front of the house, overlooking the front fields and long drive. Champagne and canopes were served before dinner and I am a fussy eater but I can usually eat something off the menu but I am also pregnant so this limited my choices even more, the hotel could not have been more accomodating, I have juice instead of the champagne and the canopes were amazing. The staff offered my any food I wanted, due to the weather we ended up being the only people in the restaurant that night which was very romantic and the food was amazing and the staff (Charles) was so so helpful and friendly at all times.

Pool/gym and spa area looked amazing and seem quiet while we were there. Lounge areas for guests are amazing with real fires and lovely Christmas trees made a lovely cosy atmosphere. The hotel could not have helped more and even gave us some de-icer to use on the car on our first morning!

This is by far one of the best hotels that we have stayed at and would love to stay here again soon. Give it a go and you will not be disapointed.

Thank you again Wood hall for a great break.

I stayed for one night with my work colleagues. The food, staff and room were all to a high standard. The hotel is in a beautiful and peaceful location. It is easy to find from the M1.The meeting facilities were very good, eventhough the wireless and internet access were poor overall.
