This hotel is fantastic

We stayed in a gorgeous executive room which was perfect. The room was clean and comfortable. I had difficulty dragging my fiance away from the 42" tv. The little touches were well received.

We had no problem checking in as mentioned in previous reviews.

We thoroughly enjoyed having a swim, jacuzzi and steam before heading to dinner. The staff in the spa were brilliant and offered great advice concerning the treatments available. One thing I would say is make sure you book treatments in advance as we missed out on a massage.

As we were booked on a special package we were given champagne and canapes before dinner, which we didn't have to ask for or advise the barman we were on the package.

Our main meal was exquisite. We enjoyed the environment in the restaurant and there was music in the room which surprised me after reading previous reviews.

We even ordered a late night treat of a dvd and cinnamon doughnuts to our room.

Everything was prepared for us, the staff were constantly on hand if we needed anything and were nothing but polite.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone...in a word 'PERFECTION'

Great location, very good decor, nice spa...

...the issue is that the staff's skills in the restaurant (including those of the Chef) don't quite match what the rest of this hotel has to offer.

We booked Wood Hall for a romantic getaway & was attracted to the idea of going for a long walk, and then relaxing in front of the log fire. Walked to the Windmill for a lovely lunch (and log fires) but on our return to the hotel, the log fires were not lit which was disappointing.

We had signed for room 31, but on return from our walk had been moved to room 34 (next to the lift shaft) and had to ask to be moved. As the hotel wasnt full, why do they allocate the room at all, as it is not going to attract people back to the hotel.

Finally given a nice room, comfortable bed, quiet and relaxing.

The service everywhere was poor. Waited ages to be served drinks and had to ask at reception having waited 20 minutes. Restaurant tried to serve us starters twice, and gave us other people's drinks but the food was excellent. At breakfast - service very slow and someone else got our toast, but when it did arrive was excellent.

No background music anywhere, felt like we were sitting in a library as no atmosphere at all.

Check out very tedious as only one receptionist and long queues.

David was the only efficient employee who seemed to be carrying everyone else !

Stayed for two nights in November 2008 which included breakfast for both mornings and dinner on the first night.

We were given room 34 on the second floor which was next to the lift shaft and stair well. Large L shaped room with a big bathroom but with a view of the rear garden area of the hotel.

The bar service was good but the drinks pricey - double G+T and Bacardi and coke £10.00p. Pint of lager £3.80p.

Dinner was from a set menu which I found a little dull and fish orientated. There was a vegetarian menu but you had to ask for it. Service was good but did not rate the food.

No surprise when the constant banging of the doors in the stair well meant no sleep on the first night. Asked for a room change on the first morning and we were given a better room well away from the lift and stairs. Avoid room 34 or 22 on the first floor same lift / stairwell location.

Leisure centre was reasonable, good gym, nice pool and whirlpool and steam room with well equipped changing facilities.

Nice walks to take around the property if the weather is OK. In bad weather it could be a problem getting out of the property as the access road is single track, about 1.25 miles long and liable to ice. Pub at the end of the road The Windmill quite good with reasonable priced food.

We stayed at this hotel for a Wedding in the summer and I was blown away at how nice the hotel was. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all very modern with a walk in shower and super-king size bed. Flat screen plazma tv facing the bed. The grounds of the hotel were beautifull too, all staff were very friendly and there was plenty of choice at breakfast. Food was lovely and would definitely re-visit.

Excellent hotel and would strongly recommend to anyone!!

how this hotel has made the Handpicked Group is a mystery I think it must be a long time since anyone from their head office has been there.
We had no face flannels in the bathroom except for the last morning.
The upholstery on the chairs in the restaurant were in a stained condition.
The service for breakfast one morning was like an episode of faulty towers due to staff shortage and inexperienced staff.
One member of the reception staff I belive was Scottish should remember she is front of house.
And the final straw was being charged £27.50 for a nip of brandy in the bar.

I was recently married at Wood Hall and we had a great day! On the whole the service was excellent although a few more staff would have been helpful during dinner service and at breakfast the next morning. There was some confusion before the ceremony with guests from the previous day still checking out (there is only one reception desk!!) and another lunch party and also there were issues with various bills including ours at check-out but it was all resolved eventually (but did take some of the shine off the wedding). The venue was perfect for the wedding and I would recommend Wood Hall if you are planning on getting married. The wedding coordinators are excellent (Rachel was a star!) and helped me immensely sorting special requests for rooms, table plans etc. David the Duty Manager on the wedding day was excellent, unflappable and very calming!! Just be aware of small reception area and warn your guests in advance not to try to check in or out en masse and to double check their bills.
