Visited on a Sunday - it looks very impressive as you drive up to it( though be prepared to reverse )on the single track road . It's hidden away down a windy country lane.
Checking was fast and efficient and we were taken to our room by a very friendly chap. The room was in the main house though they do have rooms over the courtyard as well.
Our room was at the front of the house over looking the rolling green fields- it was very comfortable and well equipped.
We wondered over to the leisure bit and had a lovely swim steam and bubble.
Evening meal was delicious - brisket with garlic risotto- melted in your mouth- though my hubby was disappointed with his steak which was fatty.
Throughout our stay service was impeccable the whole place is fabulous Like Lord and Lady of the Manor with portraits of old ancestors looking on- sitting in plush surroundings.
We both had a good nights sleep and Breakfast in the morning was delicious.Definately worth considering for a special occasion or treat . Would certainly return

Stayed here April 2014 with a one night package that included cream tea, dinner and breakfast. On arrival we were pleased to be told that we had been upgraded to a front facing room. The location and grounds are beautiful, the room was pleasant but became uncomfortably warm. Some of the areas could be updated. All food was excellent and most staff friendly and helpful. Our problems began as we started our breakfast in bed at 9 am. Loud banging, clanging and shouting outside of the window. We were surprised to see scaffolding being erected at our window and were forced to close the window and curtains as a result. The room became even hotter and triggered the end of our relaxing morning. On checking out, we complained and the helpful receptionist went to look for the manager but they could not be found. We went over to the spa, which was pleasant but VERY busy and came back after an hour or so to find the manager. She offered an unsympathetic apology and claimed that the workmen had been instructed NOT to start work so early. Surely it was someone's job to ensure this?Only after persistent complaining did she offer to compensate us with the refund of the bottle of wine we purchased with dinner. We left feeling that our otherwise enjoyable stay had been ruined and I doubt we would return. It is a shame though as otherwise very good.

Dear Guest

Thank you for providing your feedback following your April visit to us.

Please accept my sincere apologies with regard to the scaffolding outside your room, they should not have been near your bedroom, we have recently just had all the windows repainted around the hotel, I’m sorry this disturbed your stay. I’m glad to say this is now been completed, our contractors where given very clear rooms available to paint each day.

I’m sorry you feel you would not return to the hotel, I hope you may change your mind; this was a very isolated incident.

Kind Regards

Gordon

Having been gifted for our wedding anniversary 'Afternoon Tea For Two' at a Hand Picked Hotel we choose to visit Wood Hall. As well as being our closest venue it provided us a trip down memory lane having held our daughter's wedding reception there several years ago. The treatment we received then was impeccable and remains as one of the best days of our lives.
The approach to Wood Hall is stunning and the building is everything you would expect a Yorkshire country house to be. It's not flash, it's not trendy and devoid of any dreadful background muzak. Welcomed by a charming young receptionist we were escorted to our prepared table with wonderful views towards the Wharfe. Service was prompt and a full commentary on our meal provided.
My first thought of being able to scoff the lot in a few minutes was not a sound assessment. Sandwiches were a good start, the scone with rhubarb jam and Chantilly cream was clearly freshly baked by someone who knew what they were doing. Fruit loaf served with Wensleydale cheese just as it should be. It was at this point we started to buckle at the top layer of cakes. In particular was the richest chocolate brownie you could imagine, heaven only knows how many calories it was and topped with a caramelised walnut for good measure. I soldiered on to the bitter end though my wife gave up at the last hurdle. We did have the customary pot of tea but also treated ourselves to a couple of glasses of champagne for good measure.
In summary, faultless service, excellent food and drink, wonderful place, relaxing and unhurried environment all providing the perfect Afternoon Tea.

Stayed at Wood Hall, part of the Handpicked group of Hotels, a fine example of the Group, situated in a vast expanse of its own grounds, with stunning views, from the front aspect. Had a room ensuite, good size, with wonderful views front the front. Good facilities, including spa. Good size dinning rooms, with good atmosphere, but could do with some quiet background music in the bar, while waiting for meal, there was some music in the dinning room. The Chef prepared a adventurous menu, with tasty dishes, and the food was good.English Breakfast also achieved a good standard, and served quickly. The staff overall were very efficient, and friendly credit to Handpicked. The receptionist called Charlotte was extremely helpful, and efficient, and she should be commended.
Gordon Burniston the General Manager, made himself known to us checking if there was anything else required. Overall a good stay in a well run Hotel Paul and Joan Bennett.

Room Tip: Get a room on the front of the building to get the benefit of the view

We booked a two night stay Sat 26th April to Mon 28th April and as the reviewer said below there was a wedding on the Saturday, we were very lucky to have a room well away from the noise of the reception thank god (44)so was nice and quiet but we didn't use the bar that night as was full of wedding guests half the time but the lounge was designated for our use only which I thought was a good idea so had drinks in there. The staff were pleasant and attentive at all times so no problem there and the room was very nice in a shabby chic way but could have done with the carpets cleaned as they were a bit worn and marked.Any small complaint was dealt with straight away ( missing dressing gowns in the room) ect.The dining room was nice and breakfast very good but having booked a package with a three course dinner we were a bit put out that we were charged extra for veg & potatoes ect. The menu for the package is separate from the a la carte and you can have either with an allowance of £37 for dinner but we found this distracting having to add up as we ordered dinner and in the end we had quite a final bill. The wine is very very expensive the cheapest at about £23 a bottle but as we were there for a special occasion we accepted this on the first night and went to the supermarket on the second day to buy our own. The only fault with the food was that both menus were similar and not for plain eaters and the deserts we found rather odd but we had afternoon tea and the rhubarb scones are to die for. The spa was small but lovely and the treatments expensive but well worth the treat, the pool and stream room were also very nice. The grounds were delightful and well kept and Martin on the door a real character ( a closet Lancastrian) to my mind on the whole a nice treat.

Room Tip: Well away from the weddings Rooms 40-45 less noise Check when you book if weddings on and take care...

Dear Guest

Thank you for providing your feedback following your April stay with us.

I was pleased to read you enjoyed your room, as with previous reviewers when we have a wedding on we do try to allocate the room away from the wedding function.

Thank you for your feedback about your evening meal, all our charges are clearly laid out on the menu, all our charges are in line with like for like properties and we continually review this with our competitors. Our food is of two rosette standard which is reflected in the produce which is sourced locally.

I’m glad you enjoyed meeting Martin; I have spoken to him about your comment which he enjoyed with a typical Yorkshire man’s grin!

Thank you for your comments and I hope as you say you can come back soon.

Kind Regards

Gordon
