“Kid-friendly and Relaxing”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

We arrived late in the evening for a week-long holiday in Koh-Samui and were greeted immediately by the hotel shuttle. Check-in was a breeze and the rooms (we took a bungalow with private swimming pool) was very private and relatively luxurious. The walk down to the main pool (suitable for kids - the other pool is adult-only) was only a couple of minutes and the grounds were perfectly kept. Drinks at the pool bar were very reasonably priced and happy hour seemed to come around all the time so the bills were always modest.
The view from the main pool was fantastic, the spa treatments sublime, and the service came with genuine smiles. Highly recommended.

Great resort, would suit either a couple or families. Rooms and villas very spacious we stayed there with our 2 kids and grandmother for 10 nights in July 2013. We had a pool villa, and it was beautiful and ver private. Staff were great, food very yummy and very reasonably priced for a 5 Star property. Loved the resort, very private and was nice to be out of the main area of Chaweng beach and only a 15 min taxi rise to the markets. Would recommend this property to anyone and we will be returning!

Room Tip: Pool villa was great for a family of 3 or 4

My husband and I have just spent a week here at this fantastic resort. Checking in was nice, calm and speedy with a complimentary sweet cold drink and wet towelettes, nice touch. They asked for our credit card, the usual for imprint and it was then we realised my husband had left it at the ATM at the airport! The guy quickly got on the phone to airport security but unfortunately nothing could be done, but he was most helpful thou. They upgraded us to a villa with its own pool...nice! It had a king bed with tv, a separate large bathroom, a living settee area with another tv, a safe, closets and a lovey terrace where we sat and enjoyed drinks outside, there is a small fridge stocked with beers, wines, soft drinks etc.... Singa beer was 90Baht. American Buffett breakfast was included in our rate so we enjoyed a lovely sumptuous breakie at the View cafe overlooking the beach every morning. They will make anything for you. The sea itself is very warm but not clear, a bit murky....the pool was very nice with a sunken bar. There is happy hour every day from 5till 6pm, you buy 1 drink get another free!
We participated in several activities every morning at 10:30am, we did a Pilates class and the yoga class, we went to the gym every morning, it was adequate but rather small, only 2 walkers, 1 bike, a few weighs and other machines. Free water and apples every day here!!!
They give you heaps of water bottles every day free.
We had dinner at the Thai restaurant and the View, both very nice, good food and great ambience. take mozzie spray! They give you a beach bag for your use during your stay which is great plus thongs and mozzie spray.
Book a car ahead to pick you up,from the airport, it's worth it let alone for the air con.
There is a fantastic restaurant as you are facing the beach, on the right hand side, go there! Although it looks nothing form the outside, the food is outstanding and we ate here several nights, Thai and western food. Make sure they bring the bottle of wine unopened to the table, we got caught on this one! Checking out was speedy and non eventful, we booked a ride back to the airport. We would go back to the Melati. The staff very curious and friendly, little English thou.

Room Tip: The rooms near the pool is less of a walk, near reception is a walk....

Fabulous resort. Welcomed on arrival with cool drinks and towels, check-in prompt and friendly, rooms extremely spacious, comfortable and private. Gorgeous gardens, private beach and pools. Restaurant meals delicious and beautifully presented. All staff very friendly and efficient, nothing too much trouble. Kids club staff Rain, Hunny and Bang were outstanding, friendly and lots of fun. Didn't need to leave the resort for anything as it had all we needed for a great holiday. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Can highly recommend Melati.

Room Tip: Grand Deluxe Villa was extremely spacious, comfortable, quiet and private. The deck with daybed and...

We stayed here for 5 nights in early July with our 2 kids (ages 4 and 2).

Although the grounds are nice and our room was very good (room 505), a large pool villa suite with 2 huge bedrooms and a massive bathroom very close to the beach, we left a little disappointed with our experience at Melati.

Cons
- a bad first impression was made when we arrived. No one came to greet us for a few minutes and we were left with our bags on the road outside the lobby with the concierge staff and us both a bit unsure about what to do. Once we were finally greeted we were shown to some seats in the lobby area but were again left for a few minutes before someone asked for our passports and the lengthy check-in process began
- service standards in the main pool bar area (really the key service area of the hotel) were appalling. The staff were unfriendly and didn't seem inclined to want to do much. This was not a language barrier issue as we have been to Thailand many times and never encountered this type of poor service anywhere else. Staff need a lot of extra training to get to a 5* standard
- the music in the main pool bar area was also annoying. Most of the day they played commercial R&B at full volume which made it hard to relax. Would have been nice to listen to some chilled beats at a lower volume instead.
- dinner for both restaurants didn't start until 6:30. For a family-oriented hotel this is very late and meant that we had to eat most meals poolside from the bar menu instead of being able to sit down at the restaurant for a nice dinner. The one night we were able to stretch our kids to 6:30 for dinner we arrived at the restaurant only to find that it was closed for the night as they were doing a 1500 baht per head BBQ on the beach. That's fine if you're going to do this but would be nice to inform all guests beforehand that the main restaurant will be closed so guests can pre-plan for other options.
- the paths around the grounds dont really match the luxury design of the rooms and are made of rough redish bricks which were very uncomfortable to walk on and kind of a tripping hazard for small children

There were still many positive aspects about this hotel including some examples of great service by people like Rain and Hunny (the amazing kids club staff), Tuk and Ka (great poolside thai massage for 500 baht), warm greetings from the cleaning and gardening staff and some really nice waiters at the hotel breakfast. The beach is also very pretty and clean compared to most other beaches at Samui and the pool area was great for families with kids of all ages.

overall we felt the hotel was lacking in the luxe department and is not yet at a 5* standard from both a staff service and luxury design standpoint. I hope they seriously consider our comments as constructive and useful feedback. We did enjoy our time there but we're expecting more for the prices charged for the rooms and the 5* rating.

Dear Arms06,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Melati Beach Resort & Spa and for taking the time to share your experience. Your feedback is valuable and constructive.

We are deeply sorry to hear that the service did not meet expectations and for that we sincerely apologize. We admittedly find it odd that communication was difficult a fair part of our service Team are either native English speakers and we have an uninterrupted training program in place.

That being said, we understand that your stay was not as enjoyable as it could have been and for that we do apologize. We wish to have you back here and try our service again as most of our guests have found our staff are very helpful, friendly and efficient.

Once again, we are very grateful for your feedback and hope that you will give us a chance to serve you again in the near future.

What a great resort - the location, the atmosphere, room quality and service. My friend (from London) decided we would meet half way between Sydney and London for a luxurious holiday.
We couldn't have chosen a better place - our accomodation was perfect (we had a pool villa) and the courtesy and customer service provided by the staff was exceptional. Our hire car had a flat battery and despite the fact that we had hired the car externally, the staff still went out of their way to assist us.
I can highly recommend this resort to anyone seeking a luxury holiday.
