“Would go back in a heartbeat. Definitely!”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

We had a really pleasant welcome when we arrived at the cocooning. We were both struggling with our stomach because of some bad food we ate the previous night . Dave made us some toast And even went to the 7/11 to get us some sort of rehydration powder which you had to mix with water! Incredibly helpful!

This awesome English (ex) dive instructor created rooms that are designed with cosy yet fresh colours, comfy beds, good showers and more important, rooms which are clean! They just refurbished the place and it made a really fresh impression.
These rooms, located in a great place of the island called ‘Fishermans Village’ Bo Phut, is the perfect place if you are looking for a great price/value balance.

We are both graduated from the Hospitality business school, worked in different hotel chains and dealt with several levels of hotelmanagement. We have met numerous of hospitality related entrepeneurs and this was a perfect example of commitment towards your guests.

During our stay Dave was very willing to help us with all sorts of issues. From arranging a snorkelling trip through the National marine park to advising us on where to sleep in Bangkok on our way back home. He even drew us a map by hand, so detailed that we didn’t even needed Google Maps to guide through the hustle and bustle of this massive capital! So where do we need IPhones for… Just ask Dave to draw one for you 

In other words, you do not only pay for the room: All this friendliness and helpfulness, feeling of being home, excellent standard of customer service, the magic toast, his lovely Danish wife and his great looking son of only a couple of months old, his jokes about his own length, their knowledge about the island and advices they can give you…. I think that will give you just a small idea of how it´s like staying at the cocooning.

Sometimes when you reside in a palace, the staff can turn it into a nightmare. However, this visit was without a doubt truly amazing.

We both would go back in a heartbeat. Definitely!

PS. Dave, If you are still thinking of opening a second place in Thailand…. Do not hesitate to contact us!!

We were at Cocooning for two nights and really enjoyed our stay. From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in good hands. Dave is just a really nice (and funny) guy who not only wants you to enjoy your stay at the hotel but to enjoy everything the island has to offer. Our room was clean and cozy with air-con, safe, fridge, flat screen tv, and a small balcony. The hotel is located right near the end of Fisherman's Village --- the perfect place to sit, drink beers, and people watch after you've made the rounds on Friday walking street. They serve a nice English breakfast in the morning and there's a great Thai restaurant just next door. Highly highly recommended.

Booked a night's stay at Cocooning as we were arriving late in Samui and headed for Koh Tao the next morning. Plane touched down really late but Gary stayed up to let us in.
We got a free upgrade to the suite -- which was a pleasant surprise, and much appreciated too, as we were quite exhausted from travel.
Breakfast was simple but tasty.
And yes, Dave is very friendly as mentioned by many reviewers. We appreciated the help they gave with arranging transfers for us too. Two thumbs up!

I totally agree with all the reviewers about staying in Fisherman's Village, and the peace and quiet available in Cocooning Hotel. Unfortunately I did not experience the very helpful and welcoming owners, who were mostly absent due to having a one month old baby. When I arrived at night I was greeted by a man (friend of owners) who did not identify himself and who was polite but not particularly welcoming. The owners, after I met them, were always cordial but did not show any interest in me nor in chatting with me, offering advice etc. This was actually one of the reasons I chose this hotel...as an elderly (73) and single woman coming to Thailand for the first time, I was looking for a place where people would be interested, inclusive, and keep an eye on me etc. and Trip Advisor reviews all praised the owners for this quality. To be fair, the owners were dealing with a newborn baby, so hopefully this was just temporary. .In the meantime if you are not looking for this type of attention or assistance, there is little to complain about.

The room is charming...quite rustic, but functions well with comfy bed, air conditioning, a good TV, a wall safe and a small fridge. There was no soap provided in the shower, nor any information about the island or the village, but the towels and linen were clean and there is quite warm water. Also I was unable to open the door to the balcony. For the price, the room is excellent. If you are looking for a swimming pool and luxury etc, you will have to pay many times what is charged for their rooms.

Room Tip: I recommend staying downstairs unless you are a family needing more space. The electricity can go of...

I stayed in Ko Samui for nearly 2 weeks and had friends staying at Cocooning.. We walked down the busy walking street most nights and had drinks at the bar with Dave the owner as our entertainment, very friendly, funny guy. I have nothing but nice things to say about him and his lovely wife Therese who gave us lots of tips for travelling and seeing some of the other sights of Thailand.. I also had a look around the hotel and into my friends room, which was lovely clean, cosy and nice decor. I would definately stay here on my next visit to Thailand 10/10

Dave was/is great. We're backpacking at 50+ and walked in off the street to get directions. Very helpful right away so we decided to make roots for a few days. Patio and bamboo with birds chirping and a slight breeze... zzzzz woke in paradise after a refreshing nap. On the end of Fisherman's it's nice and quiet but very close to the action after a leisurely walk.

Thanks Dave.
Hope you're getting more sleep (new baby). :)

From the moment you arrive in Fishermans Village you have this feeling of total hotel escapism, its beautiful, pretty, clean, an adorable place and feeling.

Cocooning Resort is everything you want it to be, its setting is just beautiful with everything matching, its clean, crisp feel puts you at ease straight away.

The owners are from England and Sweden and have created a homely feel to it welcoming everyone with open arms.

The rooms are so pretty and everything is done with such taste and elegance, again the feeling of the rooms are clean, crisp and very comfortable..

Breakfast is a must, Dave the owner and his wonderful Thai assistant cook a mean English breakfast, its healthy, not greasy and just enough to see you through until your next meal.

They also have a lovely plunge pool with shade or sun to suit all holiday sun seekers.

You can walk from the resort to the many hotels, cafes and shop near by, the village is bustling with shops and is also right near the beach, just steps away from the beautiful ocean.

Next door is a great Thai restaurant again everything is within walking distance.

The price is very good for what your getting, its a perfect stay with everything you need and want for a holiday, mini break or few days in Fishermans Village.

Guys you did it, you did it very well

Always love to visit, you won't get rid of me.......well done

Room Tip: All rooms are quite, clean, pretty, comfortable

Just minutes walk from the beach and perfectly located at the quiet end of the villages many shops and restaurants, Cocooning is a tranquil paradise and a great place to enjoy Samui from. Great value for money, the hotel is very competitively priced for the area and perfect for couples, families and singles of all ages. You will be guaranteed a warm welcome from Dave and Therese, the hotel's owners, who are by far the hotel's biggest asset. The dynamic duo from England and Sweden have lived in Thailand for over 10 years, offering a wealth of experience and local knowledge. They started their journey on Koh Tao where they met and worked in the diving industry, until they set up their first business together running a very successful beachside bar and restaurant. They were later married and looking for a new adventure with the imminent arrival of their first child, set their sights on Cocooning in 2012. They instantly added something special to the hotel and their little personal touches can be seen throughout. Service is most definitely with a smile and guests are made to feel instantly at home. ... more   less
