How anyone can not like this resort is beyond me, and the person who said Fisherman's Village is not for a long term stay must be from a different planet !!!
We have returned today from a 7 night stay at Smile house, and as seasoned travellers and reviewers I can say with great confidence DO STAY HERE, it is absolutely lovely. We met so many people, singles, couples and families who are repeat visitors and have been for many years, surely that is recommendation enough. We stayed in a superior de luxe room (117) and it was spotlessly clean as was the entire complex. We had the bed linen and towels changed every day (yes, bed linen changed daily) and the maid was really smiley and friendly, as were ALL the staff. The shower in the bathroom is not the most powerful we have encountered, but you could have a nice shower in a nice big bathroom complete with supplied toiletries. The two pools are absolutely magic, with plenty of sun beds, parasols and shade. You are supplied with an abundance of clean poolside towels on a daily basis. The grounds are very tropical with lots of Vegetation, so take bug spray with you as some people did have mossie bites, but this also applied to people who were not staying at Smile house, but this is a tropical island and is what you would expect. We used plenty of bug spray and had only a few minor bites. The receptionists were very smiley and helpful, and I do believe that if you smile you will always get a better reception. Smile House is not a 5 star, it does not pretend to be, but it is very clean, very safe, very friendly and fantastic value for money. Breakfast has an egg station, and a good variety of food to cater for all tastes. It is not what i would call splendid but we had no problems at all with the breakfast menu, plus you get a beautiful view from the seafront terraces. The location of the resort is fabulous, as is Fishermans village. The choice of bars and restaurants has to be seen to be believed, ranging from Street food to superb dining, the choice is brilliant. I am really surprised at the odd negative review of Smile House, I can only assume that some people expect 5 star service for peanuts !!!!…..I would rate Smile House as a four star (English Ratings) rating. We will definitely be going back, and everything is on your doorstep and within walking distance, enjoy.

Room Tip: Book a superior Deluxe and ask to be at the rear of the resort.

Went back to this restaurant on 3 occasions during a two week stay!! Food was delicious, I kept to the Thai menu and if you like your food spicy then make sure to ask for it a little spicier, most of Ko Samui cater for the tourist and don't make it very spicy! Can highly recommend the beef massaman curry!

the rooms are very clean and nice. it is situated in the middle of the fisherman's village. on Friday nights just outside the resort, there is a very nice street market. there are a lot of beach restaurants were you can eat fresh seafood on the sandy beach. loved our stay. (laundry service is also very good and efficient)

Room Tip: very good place to relax and eat good food

Stayed here for a week in January. We had a spacious bungalow in traditional style. We'd only planned to stay 4 nights but it was so lovely that we extended. Resort is in a perfect location just at the edge of Fisherman's Village before the "resort strip" starts. Staff are lovely, helpful and friendly and free wifi works in most areas.

The hotel has beautiful exotic gardens and two swimming pools - a lively, sunny one at the front and a shady, quiet one at the back. There is also a beach front area with sun beds in front of the hotel restaurant.

However, the entrance to the pool is on the street and it's obvious that people that aren't staying at the hotel are coming in and using the pool and sun beds (watch out for people that don't have the hotel's towels and are looking furtive ;-))

The breakfast is ok. I agree with previous reviewers that there is too much bland pseudo-western food and not enough traditional Thai food.

My biggest gripe is the additional tax and service charges added to drinks and meals from the bar /restaurant. The prices are not cheap to start with compared to other local places and the additional tax and service charges make it rather expensive. We had two Mai Thai cocktails on the beach on our first night - it was impossible to taste anything but sugary, synthetic fruit juice so definitely not worth it once the tax etc is added. We didn't bother again - and the hotel is so close to so many other bars, restos etc that you are not "trapped".

Overall though, this is a really beautiful place in a great location and I would definitely go back.

This is the first time in 10 years of traveling that I had to cancel and check out on arrival. On Friday, April 4, I checked in for the superior bungalow. The room I got did not even closely resemble the photos on their website or on booking.com. They stated on these sites that the room would be 32 square meters. But what I saw on arrival was entirely different. The room was actually one third of that size. Plus, there were dirt marks all over the walls and furniture falling apart. It felt more like a prison room than a hotel room. $55 is not cheap in Thailand and for that price, I am expecting something at least at a decent level.

Other reviewers were spot on about the service. The staff at the reception was the rudest, most unfriendly people I've ever met. When questioned about the deception in their advertisement, the woman explained that there are actually two types of Superior bungalow. Then why not show both on booking.com or on their website??? This is when she had nothing to say and just quickly give me back the money because she knew I was right. It's clearly false advertisement!!!!

Perhaps, the family rooms were better. But if you are a couple travelling...DO NOT BOOK HERE. There are plenty of other resorts nearby that are ten times better than "Smile." Plus Fisherman village is not ideal for long term stay anyway.
