When we first got to the hotel it seemed very nice, the staff were very friendly but didn't speak a great deal of English and the rooms were absolutely gorgeous - really large and luxurious.

However, we soon realised that we were pretty much the only people staying in the whole hotel (we saw one other couple during our stay) This seemed to be very strange because even though it's low season at this time of year there still seemed to be lots of people everywhere else.

On the plus side the food was very nice, but as there were so few people in the hotel instead of getting a "buffet style" breakfast, they served it to you at your table.

In the brochures and on the Internet, the rooftop pool on the 6th floor seems like it would be the perfect place to relax and take in the stunning views of Koh Samui. However, when we went up to sunbathe by the pool we discovered that it was green and slimy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned since high season (Christmas time) -it was so bad that you could barely see the logo on the bottom of the pool. We were advised by the other couple not to swim in it in case we got ear infections and that they had complained about the pool and were told by the hotel staff to use the pool in a different hotel further down the road.

Although the hotel is supposed to have two swimming pools, the other one had no water in it as there was some major building work taking place to the rooms above it, therefore this left us with no pool to use.

Another downside to the hotel was that it is about a 30 minute walk away from the main nightlife which meant that we had to pay for taxis to and from the hotel every night. Also the extremely close proximity of the hotel to the airport (about a 5 minute drive) meant that even with the double glazed balcony doors closed you could always hear the noise of planes taking off and landing.

After staying for 2 nights we managed to change hotels to the Chaba Samui Resort Hotel which is on the main road in the centre of the restaurants and bars. Although the rooms were of a slightly lower standard, we had a lovely, clean swimming pool and our hotel backed onto the stunning Samui beach. And there were plenty of other people staying in the hotel so we didn't feel as isolated!! The staff also spoke much better English. Even though we had to pay extra money to change hotels it was worth it in the end.

Typically, 2 days after we moved hotels the Cabana decided to clean their pool! But we were still glad that we'd moved as we had a much better stay from then on.

Maybe this hotel would be better if you went in the middle of the high season, but I definately wouldn't pay to stay there again.

We spent quite a bit of time reviewing other properties online before settling on the Cabana Grandview (CGV) and were quite excited to finally see our chosen property "in person." While the first take of the hotel was not quite what we hoped for, we quickly found the staff to be more than accommodating to our needs and willing to address our every concern.

The approach/ promenade to the property is in the process of being upgraded, and immediately stood out as a bit unkempt. However, having chosen to stay during the off-season, we expected a bit of this. To this point, the circular driveway of the hotel was a bit overgrown, and the lobby a bit warm and buzzing with mosquitoes for my tastes. This first negative impression was quickly countered by the friendly bell and front desk staff which whisked away our luggage, brought us refreshing (and complimentary) lemongrass welcome drinks as we were waiting to be checked in, and personally walked us to our room.

Based on reviews we had read online, we had opted for a corner suite with garden view (Suite #501, to be exact.) The website promised an elegantly appointed and spacious suite with 180 degree panoramic views of the sea, and breathtaking scenery from local flora and fauna. Entrance to our room revealed a suite that, although bright, airy, and spacious, appeared to have been vacant for some time. As we investigated the room to locate the source of an odd, off-colour scent, we discovered no less than fifteen small spiders nesting above our heads, and a few ants racing furiously in the bathroom. Again, the hotel staff was very excited to help alleviate our discomfort, and quickly sprayed the room for the unpleasant smell and helped in the removal of visible spiders. Furthermore the bathroom revealed a questionable wooden basin at the end of the room with a detachable faucet which functioned as a bad water- pressure shower substitute (no proper shower available.) In the beginning, we chose to sacrifice these few minor inconveniences in favor of the spectacular view the room delivered- truly breathtaking floor to ceiling views of the gulf and the island from every turn in every room of the suite, including the bathroom.

We woke up late and missed the early complimentary breakfast buffet and ordered room service instead, and were pleased at the quantity of food provided (2 each croissants, wheat breads, banana breads, Danish, eggs any style, ham, bacon, sausage, assorted fruits, juice, coffee or tea.) Unfortunately, our wonderful breakfast was accompanied by the return of the strange and unpleasant smell, so as soon as we dressed for the day, we journeyed downstairs to request a room change. Again, we found the staff more then accommodating and willing to give us any other room on the property which was available. We were shown a regular executive suite with sea view, as well as a villa room before settling on the executive suite. While the view was not as immediate, the room was lived in, bright, extremely spacious (2 room suite with 2 bathrooms and 2 air conditioners and a proper shower) and well maintained…and fairly spider/ ant free.

After switching rooms, we found our stay more than pleasant. The hotel staff was very attentive, and even surprised my boyfriend with a small complimentary birthday cake on the day of his big event, as well as helped me in arranging for a larger cake from a downtown bakery for the evening’s festivities. The hotel manager also arranged an on-site cooking class for us and a few other couples right in the hotel restaurant for a minimal fee. Finally, the hotel food was very good (the breakfast buffet was more then worth the early wake-up, and by the far the largest selection of any complimentary meal I’ve seen from a hotel), and the pool and view from the pool deck was breathtaking (the best on the island.) And although not directly on the beach, the hotel staff was more than happy to drive guests down to the main rood to grab a cab to Chaweng center or drive you via minibus to the sister resorts for complimentary use of their chairs, umbrellas, and facilities. Despite the short drive to the town, it was a plus to be away from the noise and smell of Chaweng center in the evening, and cab-rides were never more than $3-$6 USD total for the two of us.

All in all, for the money (book online or through an agent, not through the hotel website) the CGV provided great value and exceptional service for the cost of the room. We did view quite a few other resorts (one very expensive 5 star resort in particular) and were pleased to see that our rooms were of much nicer quality than those very expensive resorts in Chaweng Center, although at less than half the cost! In returning to Thailand, we would return to the CGV, especially considering that they continue to work on their estate o bring it up to par with other 4 and 5 star resorts in the area. Considering the competition, I would recommend this hotel (with a few caveats) to others.

When we arrived we were surprised how quite the hotel was but then as our stay progressed the Hotel got busier. We had booked a superior room which we found clean and relatively well maintained although the televison choices were limited. The resturant for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner was both of excellent quality and very competitively priced compared to the other resturants in the area.
The hotel staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them and they went out of their way to ensure we had a fabulous holiday. The shuttle to their sister beach hotel gave us the benefits of both Hotels and the views from the roof top pool area are probably some of the best on Koh Samui.
I would highly recommend this hotel because of the staff and the view.

Booked this as a "last minute" arrangement - the photos and details from Travel Agent looked impressive against what appeared to be a very reasonable price.
When we arrived we immediately spotted the huge amount of building works which were taking place at the Hotel (they're developing Condo's alongside the main hotel building), the front arrivals area looks scruffy and unloved and the main reception looks the same.
Our room was bright and spacious with a good balcony area and fab views, however bathroom was revolting and not as clean as you'd expect (dark terracotta wall tiles and no window made it feel very dark and gloomy). You can hear very clearly what is going on in the adjoining rooms - including the toilet being flushed!
We upgraded to a "villa room" which was located at their Spa location just across from the main hotel building - which was much nicer and quieter with it's own pool which was very private. The Spa is very nice and reasonly priced with lots of different treatments available (they offer reduced rates to hotel residents). The buffet style breakfast was very generous and lots of variety, however Restaurant area is quite small and can get crowded (they had an in-flux of chinese visitors one morning and chaos reigned).
The Manager is very friendly, but very ineffective. We complained that the Jacuzzi in our villa room was broken and despite his promises of repair he did nothing to rectify although he gave us a free airport transfer at the end of our stay (probably equivalent to around £5).
The roof-top swimming pool is very nice, however there are only a few sun-beds and it can get very crowded and noisy, so we only used it twice (before we transferred to the Villa).
Overall a disappointing hotel, which I would not re-visit or recommend.

I visited Cabana Grandview hotel in November last year when i was on my honey moon. welcome drink was one of the fabulous one i have ever had. hotel staff specially at the counter are not well versed with english which can annoy u sumtimes. hotel check in was smooth. the room was strictly ok with very old furntiure and spoted carpet. however i really luv the balcony and its view. bed was nicely made but bathroom was too old. hotel breakfast was really nice offereing many options to eat. Due to bad weather we had to stay an additional nite at samui. My wife was tensed due to the bad weather. the hotel manager (unable to recall his name) was very cordial and helped us out. he made sure that every thing goes smooth and fine. The room which was offered to us for an additional nite was toooo tacky with very old furniture and smelly room. Hotel was under reconstruction phase. the worst part about the hotel was when it rained hotel was literally flooded with water Lift stoped working so one had to climb all the stairs with rainy water flooding all the way. Over all the hotel was stictly so so with very very service.

It was recommended as a nice 4-star hotel with the best panorana view, but in fact it does not have even 2 stars. Room: durty with greasy fingertips on the mirrows and orchieds totally faded, conditioner out of order and sounded like a catterpillar tractor. The noise insulation was even worse, when our room neibours arrived at 2 a.m. and started using WC I and my husband stood up from the bed (we could not sleep because of conditioner anyway) and went out to find a new accomodation. It took us 2 hours next day to check out as they wanted to charge the whole sum for 10 days we planned to stay there. When checking out we met two more unhappy things (newly merried) who wanted to escape as their bath was out of order and conditioner as well and they could not open the window because of the noise of a constraction site - instead of the great ocian view.
