“Only for a short stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2010

There are almost no people there, the beach is close to port, so many boats are parked near and not convenient to swim in the sea, so we did not spend time on the beach at all. No events at hotel, cause it is small. Room was nice, villa - not, cause of the smell. food is good, staff is good. So it is good if you plan to spend all time outside of hotel and if you plan some boat trips, cause the pier is very close. Not good for a beach rest. The spa at hotel I did not like, better to use outside.

Husb & I stayed 14 nights Nov/Dec 2009 (hotel quoted great discount for long stay). Saboey arranged airport pickup - lovely lady named Mai - excellent driver.
Arrived late at night - checkin was smooth and were given a cold welcome drink.
First 6 nights in Penthouse Villa - beautiful spacious room & huge balcony area overlooking resort - 2 sling chairs on balcony - could have done with a proper outdoor table setting though. Bathroom huge. TV/CD/DVD player in room - best/coldest fridge we have ever experienced in Asia!!
Set menu breakfast - either continental, American Breakfast or Thai Noodles/Rice - all came with fresh fruit. After a few days the breakfast did get a bit boring - choice of scrambled/fried/poached/omelette etc but sides always the same. Not always hot - bit lukewarm many days.
Unfortunately the first week of our stay, the poolside bar was closed for renovations - once it opened, breakfast was served here overlooking the pool and ocean - a lovely setting. We were disappointed there was not a "happy hour" late afternoon - as the prices were quite high - compared to other hotels we have stayed at.
Pool not huge - but adequate for a small hotel with about 20 rooms. Only issue we had with pool area was the lack of sunbeds - first morning, we headed to the pool only to find that all beds were taken (there were only nine beds!!) - the beds that were there were all facing in towards the pool. We asked for more beds - and about half hour later 2 were brought out from somewhere & these were placed facing the ocean - PERFECT!!!! Every morning we raced down to get these beds again - until a few days later when the beds were taken away - to where?? - we dont know!!!
We then spent 8 nights in a "Beach Villa" - as it was our wedding anniversary the day we moved rooms, the staff had put flowers & candles everywhere - was a lovely touch. Although the room was absolutely beautiful with 2 bathrooms - 1 with shower/toilet/vanity basin, the other with a large sunken bath with a window to look out to the ocean (if you stand up!!) when we arrived at the room we found the floorboards were broken in a couple of areas - they had lifted and cracked. We had to put a towel over each so that if we walked on it we didnt cut our feet. By the end of the 8 nights, the boards were even more damaged. We also had a problem with the safe - combination locking wouldnt work - but they ended up giving us the actual key for it so no problems there. A couple of times our aircon stopped working - but the staff were onto it straight away and had it fixed.
For our wedding anniversary we arranged a private dinner on the deck outside our Beach Villa - we had a lovely night - great food/wine/setting etc. The staff were fantastic and couldnt do enough for us.
Saboey website shows the "Quo Vadis" restaurant - however that is not open. We did eat a couple of times at the hotel and the food was very nice & reasonably priced (compared to the drinks!)
Beach out front of hotel is cleaned by pool staff every morning - although the beach area is not huge, it is lovely. On a few days the tide was quite high which made the beach look even smaller. Right outside the hotel is a massage hut - the lady "Toomy" (thats how you say it anyway!) is lovely and friendly and great massages - and the cheapest we found. 200 baht for 1 hour full body - either Thai or oil. Only a couple of beach hawkers came by - nothing like at Chaweng! There is also a jetski hire just next to the massage hut. He was a nice man & new jetski & we did not have any issues with "pretend" damage etc. If you wanted 2 jetskis, he would bring another one from another beach straight away.
Some fantastic restaurants around the hotel - one right across the road - no name & no prices on the one page menu but WOW - the food was amazing. Only open in the morning & lunch - we would often have 2 meals & 2 soft drinks and the most it ever cost was 180 baht!!!!! There is also the Little Mermaid 24 hour restaurant - fantastic satays & club sandwiches, the Lord Nelson (English style pub) full rack of pork ribs, chips & salad - 300 baht - and these are the best ribs we have ever eaten. Then there is the U2 restaurant - everything we ate here was amazing & again - very cheap. So many restaurants - so little time!!! Across the road from hotel is 7/11 and pharmacies. If you are after shopping - better to go into Chaweng or Tesco etc - only a couple of clothes shops.

What did we love about this hotel.... The location, being small and intimate, the rooms, friendly staff,
What would we change about this hotel..... breakfast - more options needed and also to be hotter, more sunbeds around pool and facing the ocean, poolside bar happy hour.

We will definitely stay here again

Having stayed previously on Samui we knew that we wanted to stay near Big Buddha, as we were also going to take some time over on Koh Phanang. We booked a suite and were not dissapointed. Our elevated balcony looked out directly towards Koh Phanang - the view was amazing - and our room was large, clean and airey.

For us the location was great - although the airport is nearby this wasn't a problem - and the resort was very peaceful, with direct access to the beach.

Breakfast was hearty and could be taken by the pool bar (watch out for the mozzies) or down on the beach.

Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. A great little resort to relax.

This was my first real holiday abroad and I have to admit to being somewhat anxious about the quality of amenities in a place like Thailand. However, on arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who helped us with our backage and offered us cocktails to help us relax.

We were initially allocated a suite, but having been shown to the room, it was clear that the air conditioning was broken in this room. We spoke to reception who immediately offered us a new room and even went as far as upgrading us to a garden villa. A great touch, which more than made up for the first impressions.

The bedrooms were spacious and beautifully presented with a contemporary feel; the bathrooms were luxurious. The staff were quick to clean the rooms and leave freshly made snacks on a daily basis. The room was less than 10m from the infinity swimming pool which was in touching distance of the golden beach and tranquile waters. Big Buddha can be seen in the distance and is well worth a visit.

The resort is located approximately 5-10 minutes drive from the Fisherman's Village, which offers a host of bars, restaurants and shopping opportunities. For nightlife, Chaweng is a longer 20 minute drive away. Taxis are cheap relative to the UK, but as with anything in Thailand, it is worth bartering to get a better deal (a big smile will always help here). The resort reception were always on hand to help book day trips and activities (e.g. elephant trekking) at competitive prices. Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are within boating distance - Tao is well recommended, especially for those of you wanting to go diving/snorkelling.

The restaurant was good, but breakfast good be improved and I would recommend travelling to some of the local restaurants to get a true taste of the Thai cuisine. However, the fruit juices, smoothies and cocktails available from the bar are superb.

The resort is peaceful despite lying under the flight path. However, the plains only travel during the day so this should not trouble your sleep.

I would definitely return to this resort and would highly recommend it to everyone thinking of travelling to Samui.

Honest to say would never recommend this hotel even to an enemy.
But i believe as per previous reviews there are different standarts for different ppl. So here is our story:
We have booked hotel via interenet and we really tried to find the best as we got only 4 days vacation so we thought we have to spend it in good hotel(not 5 star but at least that we would get a nice quiet room in a quiet place).
Saboey Hotel is not far from Airport and u really can hear planes landing and taking off, plus u might hear motorbikes driving the road.
Hotel is NOT close to Fisherman's village(in case if u plan walking there).
We got "Penthouse" No 12: small bedroom, with a sink in a corner(was surprising for us to see it there, so u can also imagine the smells arround :)). Really noisy AC(didn't really sleep that night).
So we decided to check out next morning as it was unacceptable to spend vacation in such a noisy place.
In the morning we took a shower which was not providing enough water because it was so dirty that water couldn't break through!
Got some breakfast(don't get excited when u see in the menu promise for Fruit salad, in reality it's just 6 small pieces of fruits with no dressing:)).
So then we went to reception for check out(before leaving for vacation we printed out all info with our flights and hotel booking which we showed to receptionist the night before and which she took over and put in a folder, didnt really notice that in the beginning), the manager was also there and we asked to return our booking and flight details what she didnt want to return in the beginning then when we insisted she said she will make a copy and constantly put the papers back in a folder and back in her drawer. It is unacceptable that staff lies like that! So we somehow got our details back and got charged 400 Baht for transfer by "Taxi"(hotel car, in this case i would advise to refuse and get taxi outside the hotel by yourself) to another resort we booked(where we spent amazing and fascinating time).
As for now we have contacted the online agency and got refund for nights we didnt stay in this hotel(Huge Thanks to them for understanding and quick reply!)
P.S.
But still ppl have different needs and have their own likes and dislikes, so if u will be staying there dont take Penthouse number 12!!! :)
