“Ideal Way To Start A Honeymoon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013

We travelled to Koh Samui for our honeymoon in mid April. Staying at the Bandara for 9 nights was great way to relax and 'switch off' after a few stressful and busy weeks (married folk will know what I mean). We had a villa which was perfect to provide some space & privacy, particularly as the pools and beach are very family-friendly. we took advantage of the spa a couple of times, each visit was fantastic, just be aware they were resort prices. They are better than the spas you can visit in the towns though, so we found the extra cost well worth it. Having travelled all over Thailand before, this was among the best hotels we have stayed at. The breakfast spread is great, the staff are all very good and they put little touches on everything they do (e.g. our cleaner kept making different cute little animals with our towels). Upon booking as a honeymoon, they even put out a spread on arrival, bubbly, fruit platter, a congratulations cake and flowers all over the place.... It really made our day. The restaurant was also good, but there are cheaper comparable options in the Fishermans Village just down the beach. The activities on offer were good. Kayaking, windsurfing etc were all well done. We tended to buy beer & snacks from across the road which was very convenient as well. As per the previous review, there quite a lot of mosquitoes around (particularly around dusk & in the evenings) perhaps repellent candles etc wound also be a good idea for the villas (& balconies on other rooms) to assist, As I also found we got bitten even when applying spray liberally. The bed, whilst a king, was also quite hard, but this seems common at hotels nowadays. Aside from this, we had an absolutely amazing stay at Bandara. it's a great place to recharge your batteries, have a lot of fun and be well looked after. A tip: practice your 'connect four' if you plan on challenging the guys at the bar..... It's not just a game in Thailand!

Room Tip: If you can stretch the finances, the villas really are worth it.

It has taken me a while to write this report and let you know of our experience, but I now feel duty bound to do so just so you can make an informed decision! We visited Bandara over Christmas 2013, the holiday was lovely, the hotel beautiful and location probably the best in Koh Samui. However on our return all this was very quickly forgotten as my 12 year old daughter contracted dengue fever and was critically ill in hospital for quite some time. I appreciate you can catch this mosquitto carried virus in an awful lot of places around the world but my complaint is that the Bandara did not seem to help the situation. Everywhere in the grounds there are beautiful lilly ponds and water features which are a haven for mosquittos and our particular villa backed striaght onto a pond of still water so consequently even though we used loads of repellent and covered up on an evening we still got bit to death. Also during the two weeks we were there we never once heard or saw them coming around with the spray machines. So my overall comment would be, Bandara is a beautiful hotel, with wonderful people who try very hard to make your holiday special but I hope they listen to their guests and try to reduce the risk of this horrific virus by changing the lanscapes of the grounds and spray more reguarly in the wet seasons.

I stayed there in mid April with my wife and adult daughter. Just came from Bandara Silom, where just about eveything was perfect.
First impression was not good as we were informed that, despite booking 6 months ago, the resort had overbooked our Villa and wanted to ship us off to another resort for 2 days. This appears to be a hotel policy on overbooking, as we met others that had the same trouble. Stood my ground and said no, and eventually spoke to resort Manager and he somehow "found" us a villa, and offered the first meal in restaurant as compensation.
Grounds and pools at resort were sensational, and very well maintained. Beach was very good and had easy access . Many facilities such as restaurant, sauna, spa facilitiees etc are overpriced however, as are the "theme" nights. (A$120 for 3 for a BBQ dinner), but there are good facilities just across the road. Mini Mart, De Spa Massage, Pharmacist and 1112 Take Away Pizza are all good. Had they been a bit more reasonable we would have done much more at resort, (and spent more money there).
Villa had a plunge pool which was very clean and convenient. Day bed however was soggy and timber soggy and rotten underneath. Even after drying, it still had a damp smell so we did not use it.
Found most of the markets and shopping were much the same with little variety, although there was quite a good market on the Friday night at Fishermens Village, just a 5-10 minute walk along the beach, or the main rd.
Samui is quite a bit different than Bangkok, in that there seems to be a "captive audience mentality" with the pricing of many facilities and service items. Found Taxis and group Tuk Tuks quite expensive compared with Bangkok and Phuket, as were a lot of the reastaurants. There are many good ones however, and if you are looking for a place to just settle in and relax around the pool etc, then this place is great.
For us, we will probably just spend twice as long in Bandara Bangkok next time.

My husband and I Stayed in a villa at the Bandara in April 2013 for 13 nights and it was fabulous! The hotel is well situated on Bophut beach. You can easily walk into Fishermans Village for the restaurants in the evening. There are also a number of places on the beach to eat during the day as well as vendors selling food on the beach. The sea is warm and calm but not clear. The sand is clean but a little harsh on your feet until you get used to it. Everyone is very friendly and always smiling it is a wonderful place and we would truly recommend the Bandara and this area of Koh Samui. From Bophut It is easy to travel to other parts of Koh Samui or to other islands as well. Thank you to all the staff at this lovely hotel for helping to make our holiday special.

Just spent a wonderful 7 nights at the Bandara, totally fell in love with Samui. Lovely beach, pools , staff are really friendly and helpful.Happy hour every day from 4pm til midnight if you work your way around the bars ! but go across the road and buy drinks and snacks there much cheaper. Laundry opposite as well , got all the washing done before we came home what a luxury and so cheap !take it over 2 days before. We hired a car via our Kuoni rep, 1000bht for 24 hours and no deposit required, def recommend, easy to find your way around the island, we went to Silver beach, elephant trekking, up to the waterfull and the hua yin rocks . If you dont have a beach bag in your room just ask as reception for one, you also get robe, slippers, flip flops! we had a deluxe room overlooking the main pool. We also booked a snorkeling trip via the dive academy on the beach, we went with In Sea Speedboat and it was the best day .

We stayed at the Bandara in April for 10 days. It's in a great location on the beach 5 minutes walk from the Fishermans Village. Breakfast was great. Room was in good condition with a big balcony with a double day bed on it - great for relaxing on. Flip flops, beach bag, robe and slippers were provided which was a nice touch. We chose to go on the beach and the sunbeds were comfy as were the huge beanbags you can use. Watching the beach sellers was entertaining as they were friendly and not pushy. You can also buy fresh fruit, drinks, sweetcorn, spring rolls, chicken or freshly made papaya salad from a lady on the beach which we did daily as it was delicious!

We spent ages deciding whether to stay in Bophut or Cheweng (we are a couple with no kids who like eating out in the evenings) and made the right decision with Bophut and the Bandara. The first bar you reach is the ultra relaxing Coco Tams situated on the beach with bean bags and cabanas to sit on. There is a whole road of beachside restaurants of many nationalities and you can eat inside or on the sand in the majority of them. There are other restaurants on the main road and side roads and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from for a 2 week stay. We went into Cheweng but it is much, much busier like a mini Bangkok and didn't have the same relaxed feel. It was only 15 mins to get to though and cost just 200 baht (£5).

Room Tip: I think the superior rooms are close to the road so go for the delux ones which overlook the pool...
