“Joe and Mary "fantastic resort"”
Reviewed October 30, 2011

We stayed for 6 fantastic nights and could not fault this beautiful resort. Rooms are lovely in a spectacular setting while also right on the beach. Staff are so friendly and really helpfull. Its a short walk to fishersmans village, where there is a good variety of restaurants and a smaller no. of bars. This resort is ideal for a relaxing get away, yet with more than enough to provide something for everyone. Food was very good, espicially breakfast where there was plenty of choice. We have had the good fortune to have seen and stayed in many wonderful places and i have to honestly say that this was one of the best holidays we have ever had. We definitely intend to return which is the best recommendation we can offer!

Believe me, you just don’t get any better service than this. As many others have said, every member of staff is so very friendly and welcoming, smiling and wanting to make your stay as comfortable as possible. No matter who, reception, concierge, security, waiters, chef cleaners and pool team….amazingly professional. From the welcoming cold drink and towel on arrival to the reception staff lining up to wave you off on departure, the is service plus plus plus!

The rooms too are five star, hard to beat. We were in a garden villa close to the pool and beach…upgraded for length of stay (a week). Very spacious and clean with lots of extra little touches. Fresh fruit and flowers daily, small gifts such as leather luggage label tags and a cuddly toy monkey in Bo Phut attire. Loads of storage room and space to move around, with a great little balcony. Free wifi in the room and free room safe. There is an adequate internet room if you don’t have your own laptop. There is even quite a good DVD/book library if you are at a loose end of an evening…though you needn’t be in this locale. We’re not really spa people so can’t comment…but certainly that is a feature here.

In house meals were very good. Excellent breakfast buffet and egg station. The hotel’s Sala Thai restaurant is first class and so too is the main international L’Ocean restaurant. Neither are that expensive but you probably can find cheaper places in nearby Fisherman’s Village (see later). Slightly disappointing was that when we used L’Ocean we were the only diners, so clearly lacked a bit of atmosphere that night, though the food was great. On each occasion we used the hotel restaurants, the chef came out personally to ask if we enjoyed it! Drinks can be a bit pricy but Happy Hour cocktails help!

We had previously been to Koh Samui last year (stayed at Imperial Samui on Chaweng Noi Beach which great too). In my view however, the Bo Phut Resort is even better. Normally we do not visit the same location twice but had been impressed with Ko Samui that we changed our policy. The beach is pretty good at Bo Phut, maybe less soft underfoot than Chaweng Noi though. However the view from Bo Phut is more interesting with distant islands and lots of boats passing. You can walk left along the beach to some great little beach bars and cafes, or go right to Fisherman’s Village (10 mins). We tended to use the road to Fisherman’s Village however as we didn’t fancy arriving in beach gear and sandy feet! So that took about 20 mins. Generally we took a taxi back, though it is a safe walk I’m sure even in the dark. Taxis charged a fixed 200 baht – a bit steep (£4.50) for a couple of minutes in the cab! C’est la vie! Everything else was very cheap. Great little supermarket across the road from the hotel entrance (the security man will even stop the busy traffic flow for you!) for your room snacks or bottle of wine. Very cheap and reliable laundry next door to it, and an ATM there too.

Loads of restaurants and bars in Fisherman’s Village. We’d recommend Krua Bo Phut and Happy Elephant for Thai meals (and why would you want anything else?). The Happy Elephant was especially great for choice, value and quality.

What can I say? Just go! The hotel claims to be one of “the leading small hotels in the world” in its publicity. I would not argue.

Room Tip: Garden Villa near pool and beach.

Having stayed at two very disappointing 5-star hotels, we couldn't wait to stay at Bophut Resort and Spa, but it was far too big and very expensive indeed for what was on offer. It also has a Bophut address, but isn't in Fisherman's Village at all. When we asked about transport to the village, we got the impression that it was dangerous there and, from experience, we know that it is not at all! There are lots of wonderful restaurants there, all along the beachfront - we supposed that they didn't want us to eat or spend our money outside their hotel!

Having stayed here for only 5 nights in April 2010, we booked for 14 nights in Oct 2011. It has been years since we have stayed in the one place for a full 2 weeks, and rarely go back to the same place twice, but Bophut Resort & Spa is such a lovely place to relax, we knew we wouldn't be disappointed.

The Garden Villa rooms are so well appointed, clean and spacious, with lovely touches. We had booked early for 'complimentary' upgrade to Garden Villa, but were disappointed to find when we arrived that there were no Garden Villa Rooms available on our first night. However, the hotel room we had this night was to the same high standard as the Villa Rooms, with a lovely 'welcome back' message in the room and a complimentary dinner in the Thai restaurant soon helped us get over our initial disappointment.

The overall ambience of the resort is relaxed and friendly luxury, and I would say the ultimate success is down to the quality of the staff in every area. We cannot fault anyone - in reception, the maids, the pool boys, restaurants, spa, gardeners - all are smiling, professional and friendly.

I would recommend you go and experience Bophut Resort & Spa for yourself. We love this place and look forward to a return visit.

I tried to book this place for our entire stay as the reviews were stellar, but they were completely booked (which says a TON as it was low season in Sept) when we first arrived. So, we stayed at the Anantara BoPhut and then viewed many hotels (Bandara, Peace, Zazen, Hansar) after arriving to Samui to determine where we wanted to stay the remainder of the week, and BoPhut Resort was the clear choice. My husband and I chose to leave the larger 5star place for this smaller boutique feel. We LOVED this place, it was worth every dollar, and we couldn't have been happier. There were so many special little touches that management and staff did to go above and beyond. They provided housekeeping and turn down service daily, gave unlimited bottled water and fruit trays, and had a lovely buffet breakfast. Best of all, the room was very large and decorated perfectly, plus the outdoor terrace patio we used more than we ever thought. Very peaceful looking over the garden and felt secluded. Book now, exceptional, you won't regret it I promise!!!

Room Tip: Garden View was delightful.

We returned to this hotel for the second time since Mar.2009. We booked early (in March)and as a result were entitled to a room upgrade to a garden villa. When we arrived however we were upgraded to the hotels top Premier Pool Villa ! This was because we were returning guests we were told ! We had our own pool (4-5 strokes end to end-not just a plunge pool) and a vast room with 4 poster bed, huge walk-in shower, 2 basins and 2 -person bath. I had told the hotel that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary whilst we were there and so our bed had been adorned with flowers (spelling out "Happy Anniversary"), face towels had been made into 2 swans and the drape had been prepared like a heart. We also had a bottle of wine, huge basket of fresh fruit and a cake made specially for us as well as the welcome coconut cocktail that everybody gets and all complimentary !

For the rest of our stay the staff couldn't have been more polite, courteous and helpful. This included everyone from the gardeners to the reception staff. Many of the staff also remembered our names throughout our stay- a very good sign of good hotel training.
The pool boys were as ever very helpful, moving brollys & putting towels on the loungers etc.
The 1.00pm cold towels & fruit were very welcome. We were given 8 bottles of fresh water in the room each day after enquiring of the maid whether we could have a little extra! The cleaning and condition of the whole hotel was immaculate especially the room.

We had 2 spa treatments- these are very special and well worth the money because although you can get a cheap massage down the beach, the spa treatments are carried out in a dimly lit treatment room (air-conditioned of course) with "chill-out" music in the background and qualified therapists using your choice of aromatic oils. You either drop off or feel yourself almost "floating on air"--Bliss!!

The location is ideal being 5-10 mins. down the road to Fisherman's Village with all its bars & restaurants (the Krua Bo Phut is fab. & so reasonably priced.) We ate at both the hotel restaurants- the Sala Thai with its fantastic location overlooking the lily pond and the main restaurant where we had the most divine Mediterranean meal on the terrace overlooking the beach. Yes it's much more expensive than the village but it makes a nice change for a couple of evenings especially if you're there for 2 weeks.

We don't normally return to the same place twice & we did have reservations about returning to the hotel again but it & the staff especially exceeded our expectations and made our second visit even more special than the first. Overall- a very special hotel, undoubtably one of the best in SE Asia (and we are well travelled throughout the region).

2 small points against-- the hotel now try to put on "activities" each day such as "aquarobics" or volley ball. These were often not well attended and we felt as the vast majority of people are there just to "chill-out" there is a danger that this will detract from the beautiful, peaceful nature of this delightful hotel. Similarly, playing loud music throughout "happy hour" is simply not necessary as it spoils the peaceful atmosphere around the pool-side. People will still drink at happy-hour regardless. These are very minor points however and will not prevent us from returning to this oasis of calm & luxury for a third time, something we have never ever done before !

I stayed here for 7 nights during our adventure over Thailand for our honeymoon. This was easily the most grand, fab, amazing and welcoming hotel of the holiday and maybe even of my life (and I'm well travelled).

The staff make you feel like royals. The food is consistantly divine. The cocktails are made to perfection and the rooms are to die for!

My top tips: Have a private jacuzi. Take the local taxi to Chaweang beach. Have small notes for tips as you will want to reward everyone. Try the cactus beach bar to the left of the hotels beach.

I will return Bo Phut!!!!
