“One of the best hotels I stayed at...”
Reviewed December 2, 2011

Upon arriving, you are immediately greeted by lush greenery and a welcoming staff. The hotel grounds are right on the beach and if you are lucky you will get a room towards the back of the resort which is closer to the beach and allows for walking through the amazing grounds each time you come and go. There are lounge chairs on the beach which makes for an easy trip to spending time relaxing on the beach. I also received an aromatherapy massage in the spa which was quite amazing and relaxing. The breakfast is one of the best with options ranging from crepes, pancakes, omletes, and more! Love Zazen!

Room Tip: I preferred a room towards the back of the hotel and closer to the beach. The rooms felt more priva...

We spent a week at Zazen in mid-November and had a great time. We were literally looking for somewhere to relax for a week in between a big international relocation and that's what Zazen offers.

Polite, friendly staff, great food and service and plenty of comfort and nice touches in the bungalows.

It's also an easy walk along the beach to the fisherman's village, which has more bars and little restaurants to try.

Room Tip: go for a garden bungalow - while the beach bungalows are nice, the garden bungalows are more seclude...

I had the opportunity to go back to Zazen - a suprise birthday present from my husband - between 24th September until 5th October.
Room number 5, giving onto the beach, is just gorgeous!
I enjoyed every minute of my stay! Everybody of the staff was polite, kind and helpful: the staff of restaurant, room service, beach boys, etc. The Thaï and European food prepared by chef Stephano and his kitchen staff was just excellent! I must mention the Spa with its Moroccon and Indian style decoration where the quality of different massage treatments gave me a new zest of life!
Thank you Zazen!

If you want a unique and class experience, stay at Zazen. The staff are fantastic, personable, friendly and helpful. The resort is stunning and the food is out of this world. Everything about the place was amazing. Little details were taken care of, The bathrooms are open air and while it can attract mosquitoes, the staff come every evening to spray and make sure they keep all the creepy crawling mosquitoes at bay. We stayed in Room #1 Beachfront Villa and I highly reccommend it. I would definitely go back and Iam already planning to next year.

Room Tip: Beachfront villas are the best. We were in Room # 1 right next to the swimming pool, bar and the bea...

Zazen lived up to all our expectations and all the tripadvisor hype! its comparatively small and has a boutique feel to it with single villa like rooms dotted around the property. The landscaping is truly gorgeous and the beach is lovely as well. The breakfast (and therefore restaurant) is top quality and service is impeccable. It was really romantic and the little touches made a huge difference.

Overall its better than the pictures show and the overall experience is relaxing and luxurious

Room Tip: We would advise to take a garden room as opposed to the a beach view as the latter has no privacy, i...

The hotel is located up a drive off the man road. It is surrounded by trees that block out the noise and is a very tranquil relaxing spot. It's a fair walk from the Bophut fishing village, but no undoable. The hotel is built in areas of a few villas/bungalows inter–linked by paths and pretty well maintained gardens. In the centre by the beach is the main restaurant bars and the modest pool (more of a plunge pool than one you can do lengths in!)

Our welcome was brilliant as with all Thai welcomes. We were as down, provided with a cool non alcoholic fruit cocktail and an ice cooled towel, whilst we were checked in. Very relaxing experience unlike some hotels where you join the "production line" behind a rope at the reception.

The staff here are great, unbelievably helpful and will go out of there way to help you. We had a very early leave in the morning so one the the reception staff who phoned to confirm our puck up also personally organised a breakfast box for us, and then came to is in the morning to go it to us and ensure everything was ok with it.

We ate dinner at the highly recommended Zazen restaurant (see separate review) where we also experienced excellent service, but disappointing food. Zazen also has one of the best wine Lists we have seen in our travels, not only in Thailand, but we did find that it was third time lucky with ordering as some bottles on the menu are "out of stock". The cocktails and other drinks at the pool/Beach bar were well made, well presented and tasted delicious, but as with most exclusive beach style resorts, they cost similar to any cocktail at any high end resort.

Our room although a garden view bungalow was no more than 5m from the beach and was beautiful. Standard Thai hotel things such as complimentary bottled drinking water (4 bottles) a really comfy king sized bed, ample hanging space for a short stay, safe etc. te outdoor bathroom was great (have seen them before in brochures but never had the use of one) however a few downsides are that nipping to the toilet in the night means going outside so it's warm and you cant do much about the mosquitos in the bathroom, or the ones that sneak into your room when you open the door to the bathroom. The hotel do provide Mosquitos spray in your room so a good fumigation before you go out should keep most out. Another good point is they have free wifi covering the whole site.

The hotel also has a spa but we did not use it.

Overall this is a lovely personal hotel with some great little touches to it, and fantastic staff. Location is not the best but is certainly not bad either, and taxis can be readily ordered in very short time if needed. If only the food at the restaurant lived up to the rest of the hotel.

Room Tip: During wet season garden rooms are quieter than beach front rooms as they as less exposed to the sto...

Dear Values Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write a review in our page. It is always very interesting to share your comments to us as well as to the fellow travelers who view trip advisor prior to making a decision about where to stay on Koh Samui.

I’m really happy to see that you have enjoyed our services and facilities during your stay including your experience at the restaurant. However, I’m concerned to read about your remark with the food and our wines. I trust that our food & beverage manager has taken the time to explain to you in your separate comment for Zazen Restaurant about the situation with the wine stock. As you pointed out, Zazen has one of the largest wine selection on the island stored in the only underground wine cellar you can find in Koh Samui. We regularly update and extend our fine selections, however, due to the floods in Bangkok, it have resulted in many shipments not being delivered on time and many suppliers struggle to send not only the wines, but other items on the island. As for the thai food, we are sorry that even after mentioning that you desire the food to be spicy, the spiciness was not sufficient. I have passed your comments to our kitchen team and they will have a serious look into this matter.

Again, thank you for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Regards
The Zazen Management Team

Swift check-in & check-out.
Excellent services.
Amazing breakfast.
Very nice room, tho the Ipod station is malfunction. And should have a wireless phone or at least additional phone considering the bigger size of the room.
Massage in the SPA is excellent.
Beach is rather average.
