“Sublime vacation at Anantara Bophut beach”
Reviewed December 28, 2010

Pardon this review if it runs out of superlatives to use, but it may , as Anantara Bophut beach is that good!!

Firstly location is superb, right in the middle of Bophut beach, which is a long crescent with just enough but not too much activity on it, plentiful vendors but never intrusive, you can buy all sorts of goodies, including very decent Corn & BBQ chicken for a low cost.

Also to your left facing the sea walk along the beach & you will find some nice chill out bars offering bargain happy hour prices & one excellent massage by the ocean, look for the manager who will wave to you & greet you will a cheerful hello, this is by far the best massage on Bophut beach. Also almost at the end of the beach is Zazen an excellent restaurant.

To your right a 5 min walk away is fisherman’s village with many excellent restaurants & Bars. Try Shades, Lucretia & Smile House. Good inexpensive Thai food & BBQ.

Secondarily the grounds at Anantara are gorgeous, perfectly manicured with lots of interesting nooks & crannies, The lily pool provides a great background for whatever cocktail parties the managers may host.

Thirdly the Swimming pool is delightful, plenty of room & never feels crowded with loads of lounge chairs around, one minor complaint is this area doesn’t get that many hours of sunshine, if you prefer the shade the pool is great, for those more interested in a tan, the beach is a better option.

Fourthly the lobby & Library are cool inviting spaces to chill out, Internet access is provided free for PDA or 2 Desktops are available for use, plenty of newspapers are delivered daily to keep up with events.

Fifthly the Gym is well equipped, decent modern equipment& good variety with a powerful air conditioning system to keep the sweating under control, the Fridge is thoughtfully stocked with ice cold Jasmine scented towels for the Après exercise.

Sixthly the Breakfast room & Buffet are opulent, with more than enough Variety to please every pallet; especially welcome is the excellent fresh brewed coffee.

Seventh, great guest rooms, Spacious bedrooms, with decently wide balconies perfect for drying swimwear & gym clothes, each room has privacy but with a nice view & with an excellent bathroom, stocked with the best toiletries I can recollect using

Lastly & the true gem of the Anantara is the service, quite literally the best trained, most attentive, professional staff I have had the pleasure to meet. Every single member of the staff goes above & beyond, a real 5 start service, the Genuineness & the happiness of Thai people shines thru, but at Anantara it goes far far beyond that A memorable experience is made even more succulent
A wonderful vacation enhances by the sheer quality of this resort, I unreservedly recommend The Anantara Bophut beach as a quality vacation destinations for couples or families.

Koh Samui is a gorgeous tropical island, with wonderful beaches, Thai hospitality & food, gorgeous weather, Cultural sights to see & the perfect resort to stay is the Anantara located on Bophut beach!!

Didn't understand why does the name feature in medium end resorts in Samui. the plantation in the resort is not manicured. The SPA called as the best SPA in Thailand has Moss on the walls... I couldn't wait to get out of here....Would not recommend it even at $200 a night.

Dear Harry 4321,

Thank you for your review, I do remember meeting you during your stay at ABS and it is really unfortunate that you did not like your stay at Anantara Bophut. It is sad that you did not mention about your dislikes regarding the spa or the pool during our meet. However, we do understand that everyone has their individual opinion and thus it might not be appropriate to mention that. Anantara pool is rated amongst the top 10 world’s most amazing pools.
Your comments have been taken and we will try to improve in all possible ways.
We wish you a very happy new year 2011.

My husband and I visited this hotel in October 2010 for 2 weeks to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We had high expectations after doing a lot of research before booking hotel; and I might as well tell you now they were all met!!!!

Arriving after flying for a long time from Copenhagen - London - Bangkok - Koh Samui we were both tired and was relieved to be greeted at the hotel with smiles, refreshment towels, a drink and smooth check in.
Our room, a suite, with views of the pool and sea was fantastic. Spacious, nice bed, furnishings and a great bath.
The food at the hotel was always a delight. We enjoyed the breakfast every morning. We lunched around the pool or in the bar area - Try their pad thai - it is fantastic:-)
On our secon last night we dined at the full moon restaurant and had a fab meal with great service to follow.... There was a saxophone player to add to the romantic setting.

The pool sits with a wonderful view of the sea and the island of Koh Phangnan. There was enough sun loungers for everybody and the pool big enough... The guys around the pool were always very helpful and service minded - especially Tooky did a great job looking after us!
Also the staff in the bar did a fantasitc job. They made the nicest Mojitos and with their jokes and smiles lit the place up. Janet, Nam and Max thank you for making our holiday that much tastier and fun..

On the day of our wedding anniversary we booked "dining by design" in the Sala by the spa. If you have something special to celebrate you MUST try this.
It was overwhelming the effort that was put into this from the stafff:)
The sala was covered with soft fabric, flowers and candles. We had our own waiter (Thank you Cara, you were great), delicious food, wine and even a painter from the local fishermanns village doing a painting of us... Truly an unforgettable experience. - Will post pictures.

The grounds the hotel sits on is very lush and well kept. The gardeners meets you with a BIIIG smile:-) In general everything about the hotel is well kept. That along with great food and service just made it as relaxing and enjoyable as we were hoping for. I can recomned this hotel to families, couples and friends going away. I think it has a bit of everything, and we did notice that there was a nice mix of people staying there.
The location is good. It's easy to walk into Fishermanns Village were there is lots of shops and restaurants.

All in all I have nothing but good things to say about this Anantara resort. We are planning to come back in 2012 with some friends and family. Can't wait to share this special place with them.
Thank you for making our holiday so superb. Everybody, from the floor staff to the managers were truly service minded and it was great to experience.
Superb service, yummy food, great setting and comfortable in every way - just my kind of holiday... WE WILL BE BACK:-)

Normally, I wouldn't bother to write reviews for travel websites but my husband and I have just returned from a week long stay in the Anantara Resort in Bho Put, Koh Samui. I just had to tell the whole world how gorgeous this resort is. If you are thinking of travelling to Koh Samui and about to book somewhere in Chaweng Beach...DONT, unless you're a young backpacker and wanting noise, bars, cheap crappy shopping and Pommie Touts on mopeds. INSTEAD...book into the most beautiful, relaxing Anantara Resort which is away from the hustle and bustle of Chaweng and right next door to the quaint Fishermans Village.Yes, I know you will think the rates are high but consider this - you may never have the chance to come back to this amazing part of the world and you will treasure this experience forever. From the moment we arrived at Anantara, we loved every minute of this beautiful hotel. The staff are so beautiful, the rooms are excellent, the pool is perfect, the views from the Seaview floors will take your breath away. The beach is quiet and the water is clean and calm. Walk 2 minutes along a beach-front road and you have some fabulous restaurants in the village with incredibly inexpensive and excellent food. There are also a couple of bars where you can lounge on bean bags at night and watch the stars as the water laps at your toes -( order the coconut ice cream with Malibu shot...OMG Heaven!). There is a 24 hour 711 supermarket to buy cheap alcohol/ snacks/ bottled water and also some lovely shops, mostly open in the afternoon (so spend your mornings having breakfast and lounging around the pool until your hangover wears off). If you're the type who gets bored just lying around, then catch a taxi to Chaweng (300BHT) and go for a cooking class at Samui Institute of Thai Cooking, Moo 3, Chaweng Beach. This is so much fun and you won't believe that you could cook such awesome Thai food. The concierge at Anantara can help you to book these classes. One more tip that might come in handy - if you're a wine drinker, then stock up on Duty free and bring your wine with you. It's almost impossible to buy decent wine in Koh Samui and it's crazy-expensive (compared to the cheap price of most alcohol). Bottled wine in restaraunts is also expensive... maybe you could become a vodka-drinker just for your holiday?!?!

Dear thesilvergirl,

Thank you very much for your review. It is very helpful for all to know how the location is best suited to most of our guests. It is indeed calm and nice and as mentioned the beach is surely wonderful if compared to Chaweng. Your comments regarding the staff have been communicated and would at the same time like to mention that it is a great motivating tool for all of us to perform the best. We appreciate your time in writing the review. Regarding the alcohol being priced high is only because of the heavy taxes and duty that apply which is in between 350% to 450%. We hope to have you with us once again soon.

Beautiful gardens, beautiful staff!!!!!!!!!! Resteraunts in the Hotel were excellent with a good variety of cuisines. Unfortunately the weather was not kind so we spent little time at the pool, maybe next time. The staff in particular from the manager to the gardeners were friendly and courteous and always made time to engage in conversation

Dear Taff07,
Thank you very much for appreciating the efforts of the Anantara Bophut team. We always try our best to spread the beauty of Anantara around, hoping that each of our guests enjoys their stay with us. Some factors such as the weather are not in our hands though but we are glad that the same did not affect your stay with us and you enjoyed the food, landscape and restaurants. We do hope that we will get the opportunity to have you with us again soon. Your comment has been communicated to our team.

We had a 10 day stay in a suite which was spacious and comfortable.
Meals in both restaurants were of top quality and such good value by Australian standards that we only ate outside once. The meal outside was at "Orgasmic" which is also highly recommended.
We thought the Anantara Spa was exorbitantly expensive and as an alternative went to the "Magnolia Spa" which was excellent (they even sent a car to pick my wife up). The massage place at the hotel entrance did a great foot massage.
Taxis were good value and we had no problem getting a fixed price pre departure.
Fisherman's Village is interesting and on the doorstep, but the shops are not inspiring.
The tailor's shop at the Hotel entrance is good, produced quality trousers, ladies dresses and jacket at a very reasonable price
The Hotel pool is very nice, deep enough to provide relatively cool water and there are plenty of sun loungers.
Finally the staff are terrific, friendly, efficient and very eager to please. They could not have been more helpful when flooding and an airport closure at the end of our stay caused a degree of chaos.
Overall we thoroughly recommend this hotel and will return.

We stayed here for 9 nights in July. I traveled with my young daughter (2y) and my parents, sister and her husband. This resort is beautiful, the grounds a kept very well and the service is fantastic. We stayed in the Deluxe ocean view room. The rooms were a good size and the baths are HUGE the water view was beautiful as well. The resort is in an excellent spot only about 50 meters away from Bophut. We ate at the resort some times and the food was great however it is more expensive than you can eat in the village. The Elephant restaurant was fantastic. The pool area was great and the pool was kept clean. The gentlemen providing the service at the pool were also fantastic. The resort was child friendly and the staff took a great interest in my daughter. The only downside to this resort is the breakfast is probably not what you would call 5 star range. The food they do have is excellent but the range of types of food is a bit limited. We didn't mind but compared to other 5 star resorts this is really the only area lacking. We will definitely be back to Koh Samui and will be staying here. We had a wonderful time!
