We stayed here for 6 nights over 2014 New Years with three other couples. We booked a deluxe room, which was on the top floor and had been recently renovated. The room was clean and nicely decorated and had a very comfortable bed. Two of the other couples we traveled with booked a Junior Garden view suite, which had a much bigger bathroom. We did however find these rooms to be very dark as they were on the ground floor which allowed very little light to come from the trees in the garden.

The service at this hotel was excellent. We would be greeted everywhere we went, which made the stay extra special.

Breakfast buffet was great and the restaurants served fantastic food.

The hotel is close to the fishermans village which was great for finding restaurants and little shops. Our only negative comment is the beach. We found the sand to be very coarse and sea quite rough. Throughout our stay we saw very few people swimming in the sea. If you are looking for a beautiful beach, then I suggest you stay elsewhere on the island. We travelled down to Lamai Beach during our stay, where we found an idyllic beach and sunshine. We would stay in this part of the island should we return to Koh Samui.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Anantara.

Dear valued guests,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review, and for your kind words towards the team!
Glad you and your friends had a good time with us!
Referring to your comments about the beach / sea: this side of the island has been unusually windy throughout the month of December.
The wind has now stopped and the sea just looks like the pictures on our website!

Please do drop us a mail if you come back to Samui, we would be delighted to welcome you back, even for a meal!

Warm regards,
Manish Jha

I was here in 2011. We got very good price in this hotel for about a week. The room is clean and nice. The hotel garden is amazing, its like a botanic garden, the pool is also very good. I am not a pool lover guy, I like more the beach but here I spent more time by the pool with a beach view. The breakfast was amaizing. Everybody was very kind. The hotel is very close to the so called Fischermans village where we could find lot of restaurants.

Dear valued guests,

Thank you for posting a review.
Please do come back and visit us!
We have had a major renovation to upgrade our facilities, but we haven’t touched either the garden or the pool, and the best part is that most of the team is still here!

Warm regards,

We wanted a "holiday in the holiday" and chose this hotel. Expensive, but most hotels were for the new years weekend. Many nice e mails in advance, which relly made us feel welcomed. At the in check, calm and nice atmosphere. The room (garden room) was big and all four of us fitted well into the room. A fantastic garden and two verandahs. In the evenings we could sit there and listen to thai music or opera, or the light in the garden pond. During the day a monkey family entertained in the tree tops. Excellent brekafast, there was nothing we missed. Nice bars/restaurants and food. The pool was great, also the beach. The kids joined som of the activities in the kids club, and the adults did a cooking course, very good. Great New Years Gala! And I was told that 270 people worked to give the 300 guest a splendid experience. All hotels workers were so sweet and nice. Five days stay, and we did not want to go anywhere else. Highly recomended if you want to spend some money on being spoiled. We have great memories from the stay at this wonderful hotel.

Room Tip: Garden room, actually good as it was withdrawn from the beach where it can be windy. They also have...

We stayed three nights in a suite (2 bdrms, 2 baths with a common living room in between). Three biggest problems:

SMELL: We noticed a foul odor coming from the toilet in the small bathroom (which permeated the entire living room) and reported it to management on the morning of Day 2. Someone came pretty quickly, but later in the day, the smell returned. We reported the smell again on the morning of Day 3. Again someone showed up but the smell persisted. On the morning of Day 4, we called again and they wanted to send someone right away; however, some of us were still sleeping so we said "wait at least 15 minutes." Apparently no one came because a few hours later, they tried to send a repairman over. By then, we were checking out. No one ever apologized, offered us compensation or offered to switch our room (until the very last day when it was no longer practical).

INTERNET: The weather was cloudy during our entire stay so there was more time spent on the internet. We were allocated up to 3 devices for 4 people, not enough, and even though we got this increased to 4 devices, we would've gotten up to 6 devices if we had two separate rooms instead of a suite. How is that fair? Also we were rarely able to use 4 or even 3 devices at once. We called the front desk about 6 times to report problems getting online. The response was "there are too many people from the resort on the internet right now, sorry."

NEW YEARS EVE DINNER: This was compulsory if you were staying at the resort, and something we would never attended otherwise. The outdoor cocktail buffet was well attended but the food choices were quite limited. At one point, the only available hors d'oeuvre was some sort of fish ball and the other choices were completely out of stock. At the dinner itself, our family of four was seated with complete strangers, a lovely family from Europe. Bottled water required an extra charge and so did wine. There were many choices at the dinner buffet but none were memorable. Eating the meal took maybe one hour. The entertainment consisted of Thai dancers and then copies of the cabaret scenes from "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." This worked for a few minutes but quickly grew tiring. The emcee then gave out free nights at other Anantara locations all over the world. He had 9 packages to give out...this took a terribly long time to do and was totally uninteresting to us. We left at 9:30pm and could not imagine how they were going to keep people entertained until midnight!!!

GOOD POINTS: Great location near Fishermans Village. Decent drinks at the beach. Helpful beach staff. Washer/dryer combination in the suite (although there was no instruction manual, the wash took 1-2 hours and the dryer didn't seem to work well at all). Excellent breakfast choices.

OTHER CONCERNS: Glass bottles in the shower for shampoo, ,conditioner and bath gel which could easily break. Limited storage space for clothing so we ended up living out of our suitcases. No place to hang air dried clothing, which we ended up laying all over the furniture in the common area.

OVERALL: We would not stay here again and do not recommend this location.

Dear valued guests,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review and please do accept our sincere apologies for the inconveniences encountered during your stay with us.

We have well noted your comments about the smell in the bathroom: the room is now blocked out of order with engineers working on the drainage system.
Internet: the total number of devices to be used throughout the property has been increased during Festive Season, to support our guests, but unfortunately internet was not stable from service provider and lot of guests were downloading movies online.
Gala Dinner: We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy it. The party moved to the beach after dinner, where we had a DJ, fireworks and fire dancers. Most of the guests stayed until 01.00am, and the party itself finished at 02.00am.

Once again, we are sad to hear that we did not meet your expectations.
Feel free to contact me at anytime should you wish to discuss the matter.

We were very disappointed on our recent stay at the Anantara Bophut Resort, this is not a high end property by Western Standards. The property boasts of a recent renovation and while the rooms are decent the rest of the property is disappointing. The lounge chairs at the pool are dirty and without cushions. The bar smelled of mildew and must. We voiced our frustration due to broken air conditioning, broken toilet and very late room cleaning (5pm) and our desire to check out after 2 days and the hotel did not relive us of the remaining 2 nights of our 4 night commitment. We checked out anyway. If you want a luxury experience in Samui the Four Seasons is the way to go full stop. This is a budget hotel at best.

Room Tip: second floor at a minimum

Dear valued guests,

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback on your recent stay with us, and please accept our sincere apologies for not being able to meet your expectations.
With regards to your comment mentioning about high end luxury experience have been taken on board however, since many are based on a matter of taste and vision, kindly understand the fact that I will not touch on this subject in details; as the General Manager of the Anantara Bophut though, I can guarantee that the property is in top condition to meet the discerning needs of all travelers and able to deliver the promise that we make when promoting our resort as well as our international brand worldwide. I am sure you are aware that you will be paying 5 times more than what you paid to stay at our resort. We do have rooms from 36 SQM to 152 SQM, the villas are competing against four season product, your booking was made for 36 SQM and you expected to get an upgrade without paying anything.
The lounge chairs which we have at pool side are the new ones and do not need a cushion and is wet weather proof.
Regarding to the room nights charge: the cancellation policy during Festive Season mentions 100% charge for early departure. Unfortunately weather also did not play good role during your stay. The mood was not right due to strong wind and without sun. You did not give us a chance to correct our mistakes, just mentioned you and your friends wanted to check-out. Our Front Office Manager mentioned the extra nights to be charged and you immediately threatened to go to Social Media if we were not waiving the charges, and it was emphasize that all of you are working for yahoo and Google and will damage the reputation of the resort. I do not think it is fare on the team as we use this forum to train our associates.
Do not hesitate to contact me personally to discuss the matter

Manish Jha

This recently extensively renovated hotel ticks all boxes. Knock out gardens and accommodation which provides all creature comforts. 2 top-flight restaurants (take a bow Exec Chef Bernhard) make staying in-house something to savour. Add to that a top-notch delightful staff (in all areas of the hotel) - a tribute to GM Manish - and you have the perfect place to stay.
