We have just spent a wonderful week at the Anantara Resort at Bophut on the lovely island of Koh Samui. The hotel is well laid out with an impressive entrance off the island's main ring road, complete with whistle blowing guard. On arrival we were instantly welcomed and offered a cooling juice drink while we checked in. This was quick and efficient and we were soon shown to our room, which was a double size with twin balconies. It had everything you could want.
Big positives about our stay were: the main infinity pool is great with plenty of palm trees for shade if that is what you need; steps straight onto the beach with more loungers and parasols etc and a roped off swimming area (but sand is a bit coarse due to finely broken coral); breakfast is comprehensive catering for every nationality's food preferences; the Full Moon restaurant overlooking the pool and sea, whilst expensive, is very good and was easily the best quality meal of our stay; the staff were always smiling and very helpful.
Slight niggles were few: the advertised 'free' wi-fi/internet is only for 30 minutes a day and you have to pay for any more (which in my view these days is not what I would expect); we went during the low-season so it was not crowded but I would imagine that during peak times the pool especially can get very busy and noisy, as it doesn't feel big enough for the number of rooms.
Other points worth noting: the hotel is a short walk along the beach/seafront to the Fisherman's Village which has a good range of restaurants and shops - we ate out there most nights at modest cost and enjoyed every meal; we booked through sawadee.com which was cheaper than direct with Anantara.

As residents of Asia for over ten years, we have frequented many Anantaras and hotels of similar quality. This one was of the same excellent standards we have come to expect from the Anantara name, but we particularly enjoyed this stay and hotel. We were very spoiled while staying in a 2 bedroom villa on their gorgeous, white sandy beach, which was safe, clean and quiet without being too remote. There were large trees and an open garden area with shaded areas where you could sit and read. The pool area was lovely and not packed. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and quick to respond. We enjoyed meeting the manager, who assured us we would be well taken care of and so we were. Chef Don gave us a personal tour of his private garden, explaining how the foods were cooked, what grew best here, etc. and he inspired us to go home and try our hand at gardening...The garden tour was one of many activities available. You could learn Thai, Thai cooking, how to fold towels into animals and so on.We enjoyed learning some Thai, getting handouts and our children enjoyed learning Thai towel folding (elephants, dogs, etc. ) and our little one liked the kids' club. We only ventured off property to do the ziplining, but we enjoyed it. Tours were available for fishing, snorkelling, etc..The tour desk people were fantastic, clearly wanting to make sure you got what you wanted by comparing tours and asking what your priorities were. The prices in Koh Samui, as in Phuket, are a little more than in some other parts of Thailand, but we live here and shopping wasn't part of our agenda so it didn't matter to us. Nothing was outrageously priced and as a tourist, you might not know what things cost in Thailand. For example, across from the hotel, the maicures at a small spa were 200tbt ($6), which was less than in the hotel, and slightly more than in a similar shop in Bangkok, which might charge 150tbt. Most tourists There was a go- cart track across from the hotel, which, at 800tbt for 20 mins, was twice as expensive than another track across the island, but that happens when you are across from an Anantara. We liked the quiet, personalized approach, having a cocktail night with the chef the first night of our stay (available to all guests) and we really appreciated that everyone throughout the hotel spoke English well. This doesn't always happen, so it is noteworthy and something the hotel prioritizes. We look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Villas are fabulous!

We just left Anantara after a 7 night stay.

The grounds are very nice with plenty of mature palms and lots of greenery. A lovely sight when leaving the lobby is the lily pond, it is stunning especially when the torches are lit at dusk. The infinity pool is very nice though I did find it noisy with all the jacuzzi jets. The staff bring fresh fruit on skewers as you sunbathe and someone comes around offering you complimentary suntan cream which is something I've not seen before.

We has a standard double room and I felt it was a little tired. I'm sure all the marble was lovely when new but unfortunately it stains and cracks which leave it looking a little dirty. The room was clean with a very comfortable bed and a choice of pillows. The day bed on the balcony was nice to relax on.

Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, all the usual plus some nice different health juices. The staff were efficient and attentive if you needed anything. Andreas, the new F&B manager was very pleasant and eager to please.

My husband celebrated his 50th birthday during our stay and the room was decorated with balloons and a delicious chocolate cake. Again at breakfast a special table was set and all the staff and some guests sang happy birthday to him. Although his face was beaming he did enjoy it and it was a nice touch.

All in all I would stay again especially as a refurb is planned. Its a great location only 2 mins walk from Fishermans Village. One gripe is only 30 mins Internet access free per day. If you wanted more it was expensive. I thought that was mean as the hotel is quite expensive and you could go to a cheap Thai restaurant and have free wifi whilst there.

My husband and I stayed here for 10 days in September to celebrate our silver anniversary. Everything about the hotel is perfect - the location, the staff and the rooms. We stayed in 204 which was a suite with 2 balconies with a partial sea view (obscured by foliage) and a view over the full moon restaurant which was nice when a vocalist was entertaining. The only thing lacking was the amount of storage space for our clothes.
We ate in the full moon restaurant on the night of our anniversary and were quite obviously give one of the best tables which they decorated for us. The view was stunning, the food excellent and the staff most professional yet friendly. I will always remember it fondly.
We also attended the beach barbeque which was very romantic and Darika - the restaurant manager asked if we would like photos which she then e mailed to us. They are a lovely and thoughtful souvenier of our trip. Thank you Darika. Darika is an excellent representative for the hotel. We had a small problem one evening and she sorted it out immediately with discretion and professionalism.
The manager Manesh held a cocktail party in the garden and greeted all the residents. He was very interested in customer feedback and we feel appreciated our comments. We noticed him around the grounds a few times during our stay and he was friendly and approachable.
As mentioned in other reviews the breakfast was delicious, varied and plentiful, the hotel communal areas and grounds natural and wll tended, housekeeping immaculate etc etc. The hotel looks and smells seductive with inscense in the air and fire torches burning at dusk.
The pool bar holds a happy hour from 5-6pm and staff deliver drinks etc directly to your sunbed on the beach. The eclipse bar's happy hour was from 10-11pm.
We had a massage in the spa which was equivalent to European prices and the whole experience was one of the best I have had in beautiful surroundings. They even put a lotus flower in a bowl under the treatment bed to look at!
House keeping left little notes wishing us sweet dreams written on leaves every evening, filled the huge bath with foam topped with petals and decorated our extremely comfortable and vast bed with flowers. We were left an Anantara bag thanking us for our stay on the last night tied with twine and I was deeply touched. I have been to some lovely places but this is the only time I didn't want to come home.
All in all a peaceful and enjoyable stay. I would definitely recommend it and hope to return one day.

Room Tip: We didnt see the normal rooms but only paid a little extra for a suite and were very pleased with it. Room 204.

We stayed here for 2 weeks in August 2012. We loved it! We loved everything about it. Great mix of families and couples. Everyone is welcome. We are a same sex married couple and we felt completely comfortable.

The staff is fantastic - friendly and helpful. We stayed in a deluxe room and it was lovely. The huge deep granite tub was so relaxing. The cleaning staff did an excellent job each and every day.

The spa is expensive, so if you don't have Oprah money walk accross the street to get a massage - it is $10(AUS/USD) verses $100 at the resort. The food is delicious - try the burgers from room service which come with some of the BEST coleslaw I've ever had (and I'm fussy about my coleslaw). Breakfast is delicious with a great variety. I loved the mini pancakes, waffles and french toast!

Feel like going out? Walk to the beach and a few steps away you find Fisherman's village (we loved Smile restauarant, great food, great service and good value) some of the restaurants in Fisherman's Village are a rip off - crap food, crap service and expensive. I wish I could remember the name of the french restaurant we went to it was TERRIBLE. It was the first french restaurant beachside past Smile restaurant if you are walking away from the hotel.

Feel like staying in order room service or pick up a Bravo pizza in Fisherman's Village (delicious !) and borrow a DVD from the hotel library.

We loved the pool side snacks. I recommend the satay chicken and crab cakes.

No need to over pack. Cheap laundry shop across the street (next to the cheap massage places) and custom tailoring too. Whatever price they give you at the tailor figure that half that price is a good place to begin bargaining.

We can't wait to go back!
