My wife and i stayed in the Tongsai bay hotel for 9 nights this June (2009) as part of our honeymoon. We had stayed the two previous nights in the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok, so the bar was set high in terms of luxurious surroundings and impeccable service. First impressions were positive without being blown away. The lobby/reception was not air conditioned and the sand on the beach is gritty and hard ot walk on barefoot.....but thats my last negative statement because the longer you stay, the more you fall in love with the place. The staff are unbelievably friendly and genuine in their efforts to make you feel welcome and looked after. Each of the restaurants has a different character but the food is awesome at all 3. The special Thai theme night and beach BBQ allow you to mix with the other guests lucky enough to have selected this hotel for their stay on Koh Samui. The half moon pool allows for peaceful and tranquil relaxing, whilst the main pool is sufficiently big to allow for a decent swin and was never crowded during our stay. The head Chef (Alvin) hosts a Thai cooking class on Wednesdays and Saturdays and its well worth taking part. Hes a real character and makes you a big fuss of you during the lessons (+ as much cold beer as you can drink!!). The Prana spa offers on site pampering and there are good value packages for couples wanting treatments together. We stayed in a seafront villa for most of our stay but upgraded to a Cottage (nestled in the trees overlooking the bay) on our last night. Both were nice...the cottage was much bigger and a fitting climax to our stay. Golf buggies are available to take guests to/from reception and back from the bar in the evenings!. That sounds a bit lazy...and it is but with the heat/humidity of Thailand and having just come out of the shower and heading out to dinner, we took advantage of the service quite a bit. In summary, this is an ideal honeymoon location.....the setting is secluded and romantic, the staff are warm and genuine. You won't regret choosing this resort.

We stayed at Tongsai from the beggining of June 09 for a week and we could not praise the place, staff or food high enough.

It is an amazing place set in tropical gardens on the hills surrounding the bay. We had a seaview cottage which was amazing but we spent most of our time by the beach, sailing or relaxing outside so if you are like minded, any of the hillside cottages would be amazing.

The staff, without exception, were incredibly friendly and nothing was too much hassle. I feel this is a huge point to make as it is genuine and has the personal touch. The place is not part of a chain and that makes a big difference too.

Bottled water was free everywhere and bought to your lounger when you were by the beach / pool. Watersport goodies are free so you can make the most of them and the pools are lovely.

The three restaurants serve excellent meals. Our favorite was eating on the beach. Throughout the week they done a beach bbq with just about everything from seafood to traditional thai to steaks. The full moon beach dinner was amazing too.

We will be going back without a doubt. We have been fortunate enough to travel to alot of places in many countries over the years but this tops all of them.

Reviewed Tongsai Bay with a photographer from work. The resort is stunningly decorated with natural beauty and it was friendly designed to get along with the environment and nature. The private beach doesn't allow motor sports. There's a kayak boat offered though. Chef Chom's restaurant offers a wide rage of wine and Floyd Bar is a great place to sip a glass of fresh juice by the beach or by the pool.

Great hotel and holidaying venue.
We spent a week there under recomendation which I, in turn, would like pass on to others. We were made most welcome by all we came into contact with.
We moved from this hotel to a lower rated hotel and wished we had stayed where we where. Best tip is to stay here and get a taxi / scooters into local town for nightlife.

The Tongsai Bay lives up to its reputation and i have no hesitation in recommending it. The setting is lovely with a private beach and views out over tropical gardens and across the Bay. We stayed in cottage 233 which was delightful and we quickly got into a routine of swimming in the mornings and reading by the pool, lunch at Floyds then back the cottage for afternoon sleep followed by a bath before sunset. I didnt want to venture outside of the Tongsai as it offered everything we needed in order to relax. The food was great and quite reasonably priced considering you cant walk to any neighbouring restaurants. The staff are wonderful and anticipate your every need- it is clearly a well managed resort where the details matter and personalised service is promoted amoungst the staff. I celebrated my birthday while at the Tongsai and was surprised to have a cake and bottle of sparkling wine delivered to our table after dinner with all the staff gathering to sing happy birthday! The maid had also spelt out a birthday message in flower petals on our bed which was a lovely touch. I read a few reviews prior to our stay which mentioned the grainy beach being hard underfoot- i cant beleive people would complain about that as it really is not an issue!
We had considered staying at Sala Samui and checked it out one day- although its nice we are so glad we chose the Tongsai as it is in a class of its own.

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and we thought the place was amazing. From start to finish the staff could not be more helpful. Our room was lovely, especially the outdoor bath tub. There was a choice of several restaurants to eat at. The swimming pool was huge and rarely got busy, neither did the sun lungers on the beach. The beach was private to the resort which mean you did not get harrased by people trying to sell you things. Without a doubt we would go back here if we visited Koh Samui again. This was a perfect choice for our honeymoon.

Tongsai bay is in a lovely location but the resort is in need of some updating. None of the restaurants have air conditioning, the decor is a little dated. We were quite disturbed to see a rat one evening in Chef Chom's restaurat and on the same night found a baby cockroach on our plate!

We would not consider this to be a 5 star hotel either... maybe it was 10 years ago!

We hired a motorbike to get around the island as it's quite secluded - to be honest we'd have been totally stuck without it. If you stay here and don't hire a car/bike you need to be prepared to stay by the pool!

Aside from the resort we thought Koh Samui had been ruined by tourism. Stay on Ko Phangnan to see the real Thailand!
