One of the best resorts we've been to. The view from all seafront pool villas is amazing. The private pool is large and warm with a spectacular view. Private, isolated beach. Note that there is no access from the beach to other beaches so if you want for example to rent a jet sky or any other motor activity you need to take a taxi to another beach. The restaurant on the beach is excellent and not expensive. A nice selection of good restaurants in Bophut - 10 to 15 min in a taxi. Service is great. Excellent Spa - we used it every day.

We stayed at Tongsai Bay for two weeks after a hectic few nights in Bangkok. Our welcome at the hotel was warm and friendly. We were shown to our room which was a beachfront suite room which was lovely but we were upgraded to a cottage suite later in our stay. The Cottage suite had fantastic views over the sea with a private terrace with bath. It was spotlessly clean with a few nice touches especially the fresh milk for tea and coffee and homemade cookies.

We found all the staff in the hotel to be very helpful at all times. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast buffet was probably the best I have experienced, I particularly liked the smoothie bar. The staff were particularly attentive at breakfast.

At the time we were there the sea was quite rough so we spent most of the day by the pool, the pool staff were excellent, always bringing round iced water, cold towels and fruit throughout the day.
We occasionally ate lunch in the hotel and we found the food to be of a good standard and fairly priced.
We tended to venture out in the evenings to Fishermans Village, Choeng Mon or Chaweng and the hotel were happy to arrange taxis for a reasonable fare.

We have just spent ten days away at Tonsai Bay, pure magic. The staff are incredible, nothing is too much trouble, we were upgraded to a Grand Villa for last three nights, simply amazing. I saw a monitor lizard, over 4ft long in the garden, only saw it once. Everywhere is spotlessly clean.

Room Tip: Seafront cottages are lovely. Room 206 Grand villa 513 (no pool)

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Tongsai and as with many other reviewers we really did like the ambience and location of the place. We had as sea view cottage with lovely views over the bay and nothing was too much trouble for all the staff. Unlike a lot of hotels all the staff had the perfect 'can do' attitude, such a refreshing change. Its almost impossible to pick out individuals as all the staff were fantastic, but maybe Su in the resturant and each of the Beach crew really stood out, but everyone couldnt do enough for us. They even delivered a birthday cake without prompting. We really loved our stay and it was hard to drag ourselves out of the resort to visit some more of Thailand. It really is all it says it is and you will not be disappointed, we promise you. Thank you to everyone for making it special.

We would have given a 5 star rating but there are one or two observations (not criticisms) that we were disappointed with. The hotels web site states that the beach is private and for residents only but this is not quite so. We observed daily expeditions by holiday makers from nearby resorts kyaking onto the beach and using some of the facilities (swimming pools etc) whilst they stayed on the 'private' beach for the mornings or afternoons. We appreciate it would be difficult to monitor or control but the kyaks are a different colour than the Tongsai's and the Beach crew are there all day so could identify the individuals.

The hotel quite rightly states that they do not provide jet ski's for rental or hire and we thought how nice it would be just to have the quietness of hobbycats and kyaks as opposed to these abhorent machines. However, you will need to be prepared that the resorts next to the Tongsai do not have the same eco approach and you will have the regular noise of 4 - 5 jet ski's everyday. You do get used to it, but it can spoil the peacefulness of the complex somewhat.

Be prepared also that the resort is very popular for beach weddings (there were 5 in our first 10 days) and the beach bistro and part of the beach itself are normally closed off for the duration. The Bistro is often reserved for the wedding guests only and will be closed to residents for the evening and the music can go on until midnight.

These points aside, we had a beautiful 14 nights and fell in love with the people of Thailand and the wonderous beauty of the country. Go there, see there and you will love it too.

Thank you to everyone at the Tongsai, we will see you again.

This is a superb resort which provides everything that you could wish for. The location provides a private bay solely for the use of guests and the villas are located either near the beach or on the slopes overlooking the bay.
We had a cottage villa and although the access to this was up a very steep path with many steps, the views were superb and we benefitted from a cooling breeze on the verandah.
The villa was very spacious and tastefully furnished - it even had an outdoor bath on the verandah.
There is a main restauarant near the lobby where breakfasts are served, and also a restaurant and poolside bar, and the food was excellent. However what made the holiday special for us were the hotel staff right from the receptionists on arrival to all the restaurant staff and the room maids. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, they seem to anticipate your every need. We stayed for a week and enjoyed every minute of this - we only left the resort twice in the week and one was to collect our daughter from the airport as she shared the villa with us for part of the time.

Room Tip: You should be aware that some of the cottage villas are accessed by steep paths, but the hotel provi...

I stayed here over Xmas in 2012 and it was probably the most relaxing and enjoyable stay in a hotel I have ever had.
The staff were incredible and tended to every need when requested. The room we stayed in which had a bath on the balcony was very spacious and comfortable.
The breakfast was so good, we try an emulate it back home.
Poolside was lovely with an array of families and couples. The sea was a bit rough when we visited and we only had one day where we could actually go in the sea.

Dinner in the evening was 1st class as well with cocktails and few beers enjoyed in the evening.
I definitely recomend coming to Tongsai bat, I would definitely think about coming back which is something I dont normally do.

We know this ressort for long and we've been there many times and for the first ime in 2002.
We always book the Tongsai private villas because we really enjoyed the privacy theses villas offer.
The services are really great and we were used to see the same staff years after years.
we did not feel like a number as you can feel it in big hotel chains, the atmosphere is rather familly.
The place arounds the villas is paradisiac. the gardens are maintained with extreme care and if you like the harmony and natural beauty you will love this place.
Like most tourist hotels thailand, this is not a place for partying and getting drunk all day long!
It 's high class and really a calm place where you can enjoy the splendor of the landscape, the only private beach in the whole island of Koh Samui, where you can eat really well and appreciate supers massages at the Prana spa.
We've been there as a couple for romantic hollidays, we also went there with our kids, but i think this hotel is not really appropriate for young childrens or teenagers because there is not many activities for them inside the hotel. ( but plenty around in Samui island ).

Room Tip: if you can afford it the pool grand villa are really nice, and if it isn't the high season you c...
