“Best hotel I have ever stayed at”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

I stayed here over Xmas in 2012 and it was probably the most relaxing and enjoyable stay in a hotel I have ever had.
The staff were incredible and tended to every need when requested. The room we stayed in which had a bath on the balcony was very spacious and comfortable.
The breakfast was so good, we try an emulate it back home.
Poolside was lovely with an array of families and couples. The sea was a bit rough when we visited and we only had one day where we could actually go in the sea.

Dinner in the evening was 1st class as well with cocktails and few beers enjoyed in the evening.
I definitely recomend coming to Tongsai bat, I would definitely think about coming back which is something I dont normally do.

We know this ressort for long and we've been there many times and for the first ime in 2002.
We always book the Tongsai private villas because we really enjoyed the privacy theses villas offer.
The services are really great and we were used to see the same staff years after years.
we did not feel like a number as you can feel it in big hotel chains, the atmosphere is rather familly.
The place arounds the villas is paradisiac. the gardens are maintained with extreme care and if you like the harmony and natural beauty you will love this place.
Like most tourist hotels thailand, this is not a place for partying and getting drunk all day long!
It 's high class and really a calm place where you can enjoy the splendor of the landscape, the only private beach in the whole island of Koh Samui, where you can eat really well and appreciate supers massages at the Prana spa.
We've been there as a couple for romantic hollidays, we also went there with our kids, but i think this hotel is not really appropriate for young childrens or teenagers because there is not many activities for them inside the hotel. ( but plenty around in Samui island ).

Room Tip: if you can afford it the pool grand villa are really nice, and if it isn't the high season you c...

We really liked this place , nothing was too much trouble. We stayed for 2 weeks and just relaxed, we only ventured outside once to go to the 'fishermans market' where we bought some 'old tat' and had a meal. Incidentally by the time you add the price of a taxi to the meal it costs the same as at the hotel and the food wasn't as nice.
We experienced 2 problems at the hotel which couldn't be helped but the management acted promptly and more than made up for our inconvenience-the managers were very visible and very approachable.
The price of food and drink is what you'd expect. A 2 course meal plus bottle of wine at around £60 or so including tax and service charge. A little more expensive at the Butlers restaurant which is a little more intimate.
The beach bar has 'Happy Hour' from 5-7 and also 10-11 when drinks are half price.
The staff really are excellent and very attentive, nothing is too much trouble.
My wife was bitten by mosquioes so if they like you take repellent with you.
Lastly, the transfer time was under 15 minutes but you could hardly hear any aircraft noise.

Room Tip: The Beachfront suites are in one building so seem a little less private whereas the Cottage suites o...

Please move this hotel it is not in Bophut. Please update your website, I have noticed that a lot of the hotels you say are in Bophut are not. Please check on map, If I remember rightly Tongsai is in Chaweng.

Safety security and great service is just what you get,as every review says.Thai people are so good at service and here it is found at it's near very best.Like UK property it's all about location, location .location and there are few better on Samui. There are better though.
So maybe let's just list some facts and help you decide if this is right for you.
It is away from the main "action" and to go out day or night to other restaurants -- if you don't rent a car or a scooter-will cost you about £18 return by taxi.
the hotel has a monopoly of the outgoing taxi but you can find your own back-except that those drivers know the market price very well.Yes the fitter can walk to the nearest small town but it's a sweaty fifteen minute walk -not good at night!
That is if you want to get away as everything is right there.
if you venture out Fisherman's village is quieter and better than Chaweng.Try the Happy Elephant !
It is not cheap at Tongsai,it's not meant to be--everything will have 17% added to list price for service and tax.
Book tours etc through your Agent -a scooter costs 40% more via the hotel and some excursions are double eg Snorkel trip to Koh Tao we were quoted 4400 baht versus 2200 Kuoni.
A buffet meal-very good as it is-will cost £40 per head.
Wine is a price problem across Samui due to Government taxes.
The cheapest White or Rose at Tongsai will set you back about £33 a bottle and a glass in the bar is nearly £8.it's not that big a measure either, neither is it included in the 2 for 1 offer at Happy Hours.Ok we like our wine so just drink Singha!
Anyway price is an individual thing so do not expect Thai town prices here.it's expensive but it's mostly worth it.
Lacquer yourselves well to protect against the mossies. We were bitten in the beach restaurant on the first night and then applied enough gunk to keep them at bay. Some people's legs looked a battlefield though.
Some of the decor is a bit tired-reception needs a make over and the bar seats are uncomfortable.
Remember that it is their mission to be a "green " resort so they use a lot of natural material which is part of the pleasure.and they will not spray for the mossies.
The bay -beautiful as it is - has quite choppy water with a steepish shelf and the sand is coarse and hard on your feet.
Both pools are lovely especially the infinity pool, where children are not allowed!
The rooms are quiet and very comfortable. In pursuit of perfection though they might improve on the toiletries. The Suites are beautiful too.-great for newly-weds and golden oldies alike!
You can get a good work out without using the exercise room just walking up the steps and steep hills that abound. All tour operators do warn about this as not suitable for everyone..
There is no interference from aircraft as some reviews have said. They pass well away from here.
Very eclectic mix of people which is fun so you can talk with Brits from all over, French. Austrian, Scandinavians,Germans and nowadays increasing numbers of Eastern Europeans/Russians.-and of course our Far eastern friend from Japan etc.
The acid test is would you go back or recommend to your friend and the answer is more than likely but not definitely.
Perhaps an infusion of a little more money and leadership could turn this into the Samui equivalent of Langkawi's The Datai. That would make it a definite recommendation.
You will come back happy rested and glad you went.
The happy smiley and courteous staff will have you beaming just like them by the end of your stay.

We stayed for 10 days end of February. It is the best hotel by far, everything about it is just perfect. The only thing the staff dont do is put your sun cream on, and i am sure if you asked they would. It is a perfect place for relaxation but you can get around very easily as the hotel organize taxis for you and fetch you back.
The guests return year after year and i can understand why
This is a Traditional old style Thia Hotel which i like and suits us with a first calss service
The Manager was always around to speak to and was very proffesional in the way the hotel is run
We stayed in a Sea view Suite this is a bit of a walk uphill from the pool and restaurant but i just thought of it as my daily exersize. Take mosquito repellent with you as we had quite a few bites
I really cannot add any more than what other reviews say apart from second to none

Room Tip: We had a Seaview Suite but rooms in main area are more or less the same without the walking

We had a fantastic time at Tongsai Bay, our expectations were exceeded. Staff friendly and helpful, accommodation excellent, and location wonderful. The resort is located on a picture postcard seclude bay, and it is very easy to arrange transport to other parts of the island. The hotel can arrange pick-up and drop-off to the airport if needed.

Room Tip: The readily available electric buggies made getting around the resort easy. If climbing stairs is an...
