My wife and I visited Tongsai Bay for the 2nd time and stayed 13th-29th Jan 13. We had a super holiday and much enjoyed ourselves.

The Tongsai is not chic, it is slightly frayed around the edges in places and the beach sand is not of the powder kind and the beds are on the hard side; however, it has a magic all of its own and this firmly puts any minor imperfections into context.

Upon arrival at the airport we were met by a hotel car and taken to the hotel where our arrival was managed efficiently. We had booked a Tongsai grand villa but after a couple of issues with it, we were upgraded without hesitation to a sea view pool villa - wow! The villa was lovely and the view truly remarkable. We quickly fell into a holiday routine and spent many lovely mornings on the beach swimming/watching the waves and retiring to the bar for a drink over lunch then up to the villa pool for the afternoon.

We ate in all the restaurants and Chef Choms was our favourite - lovely well flavoured food exceptionally well served by the ever attentive staff. Butlers was good but did not provide us with the ambiance we like. That said, many guests commented most favourably on the menu and food at Butlers. We ate a number of times in the Polad and found this a bit of a mixed bag. The main issue being one of food not being as hot as it should have been on a number of occasions; we did bring this to the attention of the staff and they promptly replaced our food. The Polad food during the full moon event was really good

We found the hotel provided taxi service to be excellent – good value and always on time with good and safe drivers

Many reviewers have commented most positively on the Tongsai staff and we concur the high praise given. The staff are exceptional and go out of their way to help whenever needed. From the staff who quickly offered to carry my wife’s breakfast plate from the egg station to our table, to the staff in reception who quickly handled all our requests, to the housekeeping staff, to the restaurant and bar staffs and, finally, the beach staff, all were universally happy to help and always met us with a smile. Our very special thanks to each and every member of staff - you made our holiday very special indeed!

Will we be back? Most definitely yes!

Room Tip: The front sea view villas have truly remarkable views

The Tongsai Bay is just the most fabulous place to stay. What makes it special apart from the setting is the superb staff and service, they all seem genuine with their smiles and just can't do enough for you. Breakfast you cannot fault, it is amazing and the outlook to sea and the birds around the trees, well you get the picture. We have stayed before a couple of times & it just gets better & better. The rooms are traditional and once you settle in you will love it, we have a standard beachfront suite and it is plenty big enough, the bathroom is huge. We received a bottle of wine on arrival and fruit as a welcome back gift, we also got little goodies each afternoon on our return to the room, fab. I took a look at one of the villas & if I ever win the lottery that is where I will stay. It would be nice to have a shuttle bus to a couple of night life areas though like Bophut.
Get it booked it is the best hotel ever.

We spent six nights here in January 2013. The first night we checked into out cottage we complained that it had a bad smell in the room. The next morning the manager, Liesa spoke to us and said that she would get us another room. That afternoon we were given an upgrade to an amazing family sized cottage with a magnificent ocean view !! We were even given a bottle of wine for our trouble. Now that is excellent customer service.
All the staff at the resort were friendly and helpful and very good at anticipating the needs of the guests. We never had to ask twice for anything. The pools were beautiful and very relaxing not crowded. Breakfast offered many choices so you never got bored. The only improvement I could think of would be to offer a shuttle bus into the nearby town and also Bophut a couple of times a day as the taxis charge a lot of money for going a very short distance ( they will not use the meters)

This was one of those unforgettable holidays where everything was just superb. We stayed in a cottage suite which was situated very high allowing panoramic views down the hill and onto the beach. The suite captures all the best elements of 80s charm and one could imagine an iconic film star from that decade emerging from the door to spend a relaxing day by the pool. Can't wait to return!

We stayed at Tongsai bay in may 2012 for 10 nights and I'm just catching up on my holiday reviews. We had a sea view cottage on the hillside and it did suit us well, although if I was going back, I would book one of the suites as they did get more evening sun.
Our cottage was immaculate and well appointed and the service was to a very high standard.
We have very busy jobs, so when we go on holiday we are very private & just love to chill out and Tongsai bay was perfect for this. Most days we had the adults only pool area to ourselves. All the pool & communal area were kept immaculate and the gardens and walkways were simply Devine, the scents of the flowers and the sounds of the birds, it was like paradise.
We loved the beach bar bistro and enjoyed relaxed meals and drinks. The weekly barbecue is an absolute must. The head chef was a real character and was very visible and interactive with both his staff and customers.
As everyone else has mentioned, the breakfasts were superb. Anyone who says it was limited or boring simply lacks imagination. We didn't have the same thing twice and just loved the fresh juices.
We used the hotel car service to go to Fishermans village a couple of times and it was well worth the little bit extra for the safety & assurance of the hotel car & driver.
One regret - wish we had booked more spa sessions. It was a glorious little spa that was hardly used by the guests while we were there. We visited the day before we travelled home & it was one of the best Thai massages I've ever had.
Tongsai was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone who loves quality & privacy.

We travelled to the Tongsai Bay with 2 young children (aged 1 and 3) for a week in February. After a long 10 hour flight we arrived to a little paradise. the staff were always amazing and really lovely to our children. We had a garden room facing the beautiful swimming pool. The room was big and the bathroom was even bigger, great easy access to the pool. The breakfast was huge with a great choice of food on offer. Spent most evening relaxing by the beachfront restaurant which had a good choice of food and great atmosphere. Did a few day trips which the hotel booked for us. Cant't find fault with anything, nothing was too much trouble and will hopefully go back again.

Room Tip: If you are travelling with children ask for a beachfront room as no steps and easy access to pool an...

The Tongsai Bay is perfect and I hope we will return sooner rather than later. We traveled to Koh Samui for 2 weeks from Jan 12th and spent the first week at Tongsai Bay. Within a day I was beginning to worry about moving on because this place was so great. The rooms are spacious, well designed and simply decorated but basically fantastic. The staff are incredibly helpful, happy and polite. Tongsai Bay is off the beaten track in Samui and thankfully away from the noise & hustle of Chaweng (which was not very pleasant in my opinion but still worth checking out for yourselves). The hotel is close to The Fishermans Village and this place is a must see on Friday night for the market. Back to Tongsai: The food for breakfast is always fresh with a wide variety of prepared or freshly cooked food being available. Lunch at the Bistro on the beach is reasonably priced for a hotel (you can obviously find cheaper elsewhere in Thailand if you wander away from the tourist spots) but more importantly the quality of the food is superb, especially the Thai cuisine. When you are sat at the beach sunbathing the beach team will constantly make sure your water is topped up and trust me you need to drink loads of the stuff. The exercise room was spot on and we used it several times. The complimentary massage we had at the Spa was amazing and I would go back and pay money for it without a doubt. The hotel might be considered quite expensive but I think you get what you pay for.

We hired a hotel taxi for 4 hours to take us on a private tour around some of the attractions on the Island and this compared very well to what you would pay for group tours arranged by vendors outside of the hotel.

We also went to the Big Bhudda in Bhoput and did an Elephant trek somewhere over past Lamai but these were not so great. That's no fault of Tongsai Bay - i'm just saying so other people think twice about spending money on these things.

Thanks Tongsai Bay for making our stay so perfect!
:o)

Tongsai Bay is located on Ko Samui, an island in the Gulf of Thailand just a short travel distance by air from Bangkok and across the southern peninsula. The view of Tongsai Bay is hypnotic, as its set amidst a secluded ocean cove; an eco-friendly colony of cottages, low rise buildings and villas barely displacing the lush greenery on the hills of the island's northeast corner. 3 restaurants serve Thai, and international food and the hotel hosts regular live music for evening entertainment. ... more   less
