“Luxury”

I can't say enough about the beauty of the location, the friendliness and commitment of the staff, the comfort of the rooms and the luxury of the food and amenities. We could have stayed longer, and that it not normally our holiday pattern.

Room Tip: I wouldn't stay near the pool: the more distant rooms have greater privacy. Next time, I would l...

We chose Tongsai Bay after much internet research and were heavily influenced by the overwhelmingly positive Tripadvisor reviews.
We were not disappointed , this hotel has it all , its location is stunning, the private beach allowing for tranquility in this busy island. The setting allows the rooms to be spread out across the hillsides around the semi circular bay. This arrangement allows for great privacy and avoids any feeling of being crowded in amongst other guests. The rooms in some cases may benefit from a little decorative freshening but at the same time offer lots of space and comfort. We stayed in room 204 for 10 nights and then upgraded to 504 for the last 4 nights. 204 was fine and we enjoyed its views and the fab "bath with a view". But.......
Room 504 however is in a totally different league. It is a Seaview Pool Villa and it is the best hotel accomodation we have ever stayed in. The space it offers with its bright airy rooms , its huge terrace/deck area and its own very private infinity pool, all make this a sensational choice of room. If you are looking for something special this is it, look no further !!
Add to this the staff who are amazing , so attentive , so friendly , so keen to make your stay fantastic. Well led by Leisa (general manager) , Mark (hotel Manager) and Mark ( Executive Chef) who are all very much into meeting with and listening to guest comments and feedback.
Food was all fabulous , I particularly enjoyed the incredible range of choices at breakfast , but food choices in the evening also made for a great eating experience.
We wanted rest and relaxation here and got it in spades!! Can't recommend it enough!
If you have the budget go for Room 504 , even if only for some of your nights like we did, it was the icing on the cake for us.

Room Tip: 504,504,504,504, get the drift???

Came to rest and relax and that is exactly what this resort offers. We stayed in a beautiful cottage with superb. views of the beach with an outside bath which was entirely private. We wanted for nothing in the room. Plenty of free fresh water, fruit and biscuits. The room maid was meticulous and creative. The service here is amazing from the pool boys, to the wait staff, gardeners, spa staff and guest services. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was an amazing experience and there was a choice of three restaurants at reasonable prices offering a wonderful variety of food. The fish and fresh fruit were delightful. The themes nights (BBQ, cocktail and Thai culture) were fantastic and offered great Thai food. We ventured out on a day tour ( you can hire a taxi for four hours for about 1800b- very reasonable) but decided that this resort was the pick of them. Sheltered, private and in a beautiful tropical setting. We highly recommend this resort.

We just returned form 12 nights at The Tongsai Bay. We stayed in a grand beachside pool villa with our two children (7 and 9) and the resort is outstanding. From being picked up at the airport until being dropped off, nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful staff. Breakfast was fantastic with your choices cooked to order and the 3 restaurants have great food to satisfy. If you choose not to eat in the resort, there are loads of options within easy reach around the island. The resort is quiet, no motorised water sports and has two hobie cats to sail and several kayaks as well. The rooms are immaculate with fruit and little treats dropped off in the afternoon (maybe sandwiches, pastries...)Really fantastic holiday and I couldn't recommend it enough.

Room Tip: Go for a beachside pool villa....lush

Sorry but this is not a 5 stars hotel. I think i may have had high expectation after reading all these reviews. We spent 3 nights at the Conrad Bangkok just before, and that was a perfect hotel. Tongsai is overall ok.

Beach and swimmingpool area:
The beach is not nice, not for a 12 hours flight as the water is not crystal clear, even when it is sunny and the sand is not white and powdery as one would expect when going to Thailand.
The beach however is private as no one can get to it except from the hotel or in a boat, therefore it is nice not to have people selling stuff. It is very peaceful and quiet. There are always enough sunbeds, which is nice and the staff provides towels and complimentary fresh water.
Pool is big and there is a half moon shaped one for those who want more tranquility, although the big one already is quiet.
The gym is minuscule, there is only 1 bicycle.

Rooms:
The rooms are fairly big, we had a beachfront suite, which was expensive for what it actually is, but clean. The overall decoration is dated in the rooms and outside. Bed was comfy but the aircon was very noisy, we kept turning it off and on as it was difficult to sleep with this heat. Please note that although you have a bath in the balcony, people can see you from the pool and the beach, but i gues it depends on the room's location. The bathroom is big and there is a small safe you can use. The decor is not amazing, no 5 stars furniture and decoration, i was not impressed.
The hotel is overall clean and extensive. It is nice to be able to go from one place to another in their little golf carts. You call them and they get there immediately.
Breakfast is ok, you do have choice, however, it is not top notch, but not bad either. I did not like the smoothies, although home made, they were lacking taste (sugar or something).
Lunch and dinnr are fine, we kept ordering the same thing as this was what we liked most. Price is ok, although you could find some that were cheap but tasty. We almost ate every day at the beach restaurant, which was very romantic by night, as you were facing the water. The main restaurant, where you take breakfast, was ok. We had a free dinner, from a set menu, and went for the seafood one. It was extremely spicy, i never ate anything so spicy in my life, although i can eat indian food. It was so spicy that my eyes watered and my mouth was on fire. We did not really enjoy the dinner because of that.
The excursion desk people were ok, but were not very knowledgeble or helpful when it came to advising us on the excursions, they had many that were the same, but they could not tell us which one to chose from.I highly recommend the National Maritime park. We spent the best day there. The beach was great, soft white powdery, the water was emerald, great day. Dont go for the cheapest excursion to the National park, take the one in between as they take you in speed boat, which is great and the number of people is much smaller, there was only 12 people.
The service at the Tongsai bay was really good, they are so friendly and helpful. One of the waiter even remembered what i drink for breakfast, that was very thoughtful.
To summarize, this is not a 5 stars hotel, probably a 3.5, however the service is really good.
There are mainly couples, and if you are looking to party, this is probably not the right place. However if you are looking to relaxxxxxxx, and are not as fussy as me, then it is fine.

This was our fourth visit to Tongsai Bay and the holiday was as chilled and relaxing as ever. The staff are kind, friendly and always ready to help, from the Hotel Manager to the hotel gardener. Rooms are exceptionally clean and have beautiful views that it’s sometimes difficult to actually drag yourselves out to use the other hotel facilities. We made use of the Prana Spa and did the Vegetable carving class. Amazing how much fun you can have with a cucumber and a carrot.

The hotel is an oasis of peace and tranquillity amongst the ‘lively’ bars, restaurants and shops of Bophut and Chewang beach but both are well worth taking a taxi to visit. Note: Bophut is a must on a Friday Evening for the Fishermans market and don’t be afraid to try the markets stalls food and drink.

If you have booked to stay at this hotel for the first time, I’d be very surprised if you’d be disappointed. If your returning after a few years then you might find some of the little extra bits of personal service are no longer there and it’s a bit of a shame.

I still love this hotel though and will go again

I cannot remember having such attentive service as at the Tongsai Bay. On arrival, the Manager saw that I was somewhat disabled. The cottage my Travel Agent had booked was clearly not suitable because there too many steps up to it. Without hesitation, my wife and I were given a ground floor room overlooking the pool which was ideal - and cheaper. I was also to receive a rebate because this room was cheaper. The food was good without being outstanding, the service brilliant. If I needed a different plug for my iPad it was there in moments. If I didn't know how to change the channels on the TV, bingo - there was someone to show me how to do it. The restaurant staff was equally good while reception was simply superb. Any criticisms? Only one. The shower which was over the bath was difficult to use because you needed to be a giant to climb into the bath, which I am not. Hopefully, we shall be back one day. This is a hotel I heartily recommend.
