“superb hostel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2014

rooms were better than i expected, atmosphere was good, not far from the beach and bars. The owner joy and her lovely family and extremely helpful. You can rent bikes for cheap and there is also a facility for laundry, which again was very cheap. So a 10 out of 10 for me.

I would LOVE to give this place 5 out of 5, because the bed and rooms are some of best i've visited regarding hostels standards and the staff are so kind and caring. However it is in the middle of nowhere so it is very difficult without rented motorbike to stay here. I only stayed 2 nights but spent a ridiculous amount on taxi's. Its also not great to meet people but perfect if you want a good nights sleep.

I really liked this hostel, it has student vibe to it which will always draw back the younger customers again and again, and is probably why I enjoyed it.

The building is so spacious and the room me and my partner shared was massive, with a balcony and a nice, clean bathroom.

In between our room and the next room, was a kitchen area; perfect for cooking and drinking with current and potentially new friends.

Downstairs had a common room, with sofas, kitchen areas, widescreen/ DVD, and a beast of a CD player.

The owner Joy was a lovely women and helped us in every way she could, she made effort to bring her guest together, so they could enjoy the hostel in company. She even gave us a lift to the port on scootaes.

There was animals always near by the hostel, some even followed you to the beach and back, but I quite liked the animal company, all very friendly and cute. The animals also make feast of the pesky insects which I will never object to. I saw a kitten, painfully devouring a praying mantis, outside my bedroom door.

Close to the beach, free breakfast, large, clean rooms, and very, helpful staff. Would defiantly return.

The rooms aren't the cleanest (sand everywhere) and comparing to other hostels we stayed in weren't really worth the money, but there is a nice shared living room with a big TV where you can hang out after a tiring day on the island with the other guests.

The kitchen was really dirty so I didn't really liked the breakfast.

Would not really recommend this hostel...

Firstly they insisted to take a passport for a deposit which we were not happy with since another guest could give a qdriving licence but we were told we could not.

We were told our double room was being cleaned and they needed to clean all rooms. bizare because it was the middle of the day. so they put us in a different room, as soon as we got in, there was a dead gecko with thousands of ants around it and the air con wasn't working, there was no control for it. After waiting for 30 minutes we went down to see if our room had been cleaned yet and they told us another story about the key being locked in the room we were meant to be in. She seemed to keep making things up. She then said we would be staying in this room. I told them about the dead gecko, ants and air con. No apology. They used a broom to get the air con working but it was freezing, no control to change the temp of course. It seemed a huge effort for them to clean up the dead gecko.

Then I found the sheets were stained with blood and goodness knows what else. Disgusting.

I asked for a taxi to the hospital they said they would get one for me, after waiting about half an hour their taxi service arrived. They quoted 400 baht for a 5 minute taxi ride to the hospital! Ripped off completely for being sick! For which the taxi driver laughed when I told him I was ill and needed to go to the hospital. Disgusting behaviour.

Also the tv in the common room never worked.

We couldn't wait to leave! 2 nights too many. Don't stay here unless you want to be lied to, ripped off and laughed at.

The Lounge was easily one of my favourite places in Thailand, the staff were friendly and helpful and most of them spoke really good English. We organised a tour of Angthong National Marine Park through them which was pricey but definitely good and worth the money. The TV room and kitchen made it so easy to meet people which meant that sharing a taxi into Chaweng, where the night life is, was cheap and easy. Not the best location, about 10-15 min walk to the beach but really not a problem and the nearest beach is lovely. Also very easy to get to from the ferry port from Ko Pagnan. The rooms were nice and the bathrooms much better than most except that the toilet was often leaking, hopefully they have sorted that out since I stayed there though. Didn't try the breakfast but apparently it's really good and a lot of the surrounding restaurants are too. Would definitely recommend staying here if you are a traveller hoping to meet people. Very cheap and cheerful!

Stayed there for 5 nights for our first time in Thailand. The staff are all super friendly and well-organised; they sorted out trips/transfers for us and ran various communal meals and events. We stayed in an AC room for 4 on bunk beds and it was very straightforward and quickly felt like home. The only two minor points were that the mattresses themselves were a bit noisy (!) and it was quite hard to keep the bathroom dry and clean. We rented bikes and had a good day on them. A very good place to explore Koh Samui from, or just hit the beach via the 7-Eleven.
