Stayed there for 5 nights for our first time in Thailand. The staff are all super friendly and well-organised; they sorted out trips/transfers for us and ran various communal meals and events. We stayed in an AC room for 4 on bunk beds and it was very straightforward and quickly felt like home. The only two minor points were that the mattresses themselves were a bit noisy (!) and it was quite hard to keep the bathroom dry and clean. We rented bikes and had a good day on them. A very good place to explore Koh Samui from, or just hit the beach via the 7-Eleven.

I would only choose this place depending on what type of holiday you are on. If you are travelling on your own/staying in dorms/wanting to meet loads of new people, then I would recommend it. The place is very sociable and there are sometimes meals together and group nights out etc. However if you are maybe with your gf/bf and wanting a quieter, maybe more chilled holiday then this probably isn't the place. You almost are made to feel guilty by wanting to do your own thing because its a super sociable place.
The place as a whole has its pros and cons; location not great, when you first get dropped off (I feel for anyone who has to find the place on foot) you will think its in the middle of nowhere, however a short (2 min) walk and you can get to restaurants, the beach etc, having said this, it isn't close to the fisherman's village or many of the best places of Bophut and you really would need a motorcycle to get around.
The rooms themselves are strange, they seem huge and also have an attached kitchen area, but yet I didn't really see the point, especially when there are zero utensils there. I get the impression they just didn't know what to do with all the space. Our bed was very uncomfortable and had quite a few broken springs but the worst part was probably the tap in the bathroom sink didn't work!
This all being said, the staff are very helpful, on our first day in our room, none of the electricity (air con included) was working, and they had it sorted within the day.

In summary I'd say that its not the worst place you could stay at by all means, but it won't be the favourite place of your trip either.

Friendly staff, very helpful.

Breakfast was included in the price, cereal, bread and jam, tea and coffee.

The location is set back a 5 - 10 minute walk to the beach. The town however is a taxi ride away which is going to set you back 50 - 80 baht each (one way).

I saw the previous review on the beds, the double beds in the dormitory are very comfortable. The single beds however are not.

Toilets are regularly blocked but this seems to be the fault of the guest who keep putting paper down the toilet.

Overall it was a pleasant stay. Be warned that this is a backpacker hostel, if you are something quiet, this may not be for you.

Good location for attending the Full Moon Party.

Very cheap hostel, very close to Bangrak beach but a little far from Chaweng - best place for night life. However it is perfect for travelling to Koh Phangan for Full Moon as it is very close to Big Buddha Pier! Joy is an amazing host, offering to cook a big meal for us, organising travel plans etc. We really bonded with the staff, and the beautiful kittens!
Would definitely stay again!

I have been backpacking in Thailand twice now and, if I return again, I won't go back to The Lounge. Firstly, the website suggested it was very well located - I disagree with this entirely.

I was travelling with a friend and we had booked this hostel quite far in advance as we were planning on staying over Full Moon. We arrived after a 12 1/2 hour journey from Phuket, staff were very slow to respond to us, it took over half an hour for us to get checked in. Even though we had booked together, we were told we would not be able to be in the same room which we were very unimpressed with.

After finally checking in we were absolutely starving, we were recommended a small local restaurant. We followed the advice and went there, both ordering a vegetable green curry (which you would think is a safe bet). That night I was up vomiting for hours, which caused me to get severely dehydrated, and with a very unstable temperature. My friend was also up and very ill all night. In the morning we were both so unwell we had to go to hospital. We were both diagnosed with bad food poisoning and ended up with over £100 hospital bills. We understand this was not the hostels fault, however it made the already unpleasant stay even worse.

The bedrooms and communal spaces were clean, however the bathrooms were pretty grim. The showers were broken, not very powerful, not warm and very smelly; I think there must be problems with the drains.

The hostel provides a complimentary breakfast, however we did not eat anything as flies were crawling all over it - not nice at all!

We also used the hostels transfer service to the Full Moon party - it was an absolute joke, do not use it, it took us over 3 hours to get there.

Just A short walk from the pier is this little hidden gem of a hostel. As soon as you walk in you are overwhelmed by a welcoming family of Thais and travellers. Fairly clean spacious rooms always available. Aircon and hot water included are always are win. Take advantage of the kitchen fascilities and free breakfast. We took toast and coffee to the next level went to 7/11 and cooked up the hostel bacon and eggs after a big group night out. Amazing. And robs bar. It will be your local. Food is great. It is a little far from chaweng but was easy enough for all of us to continuously have great nights out. And then. There's the lounge in the lounge. Big comfy lounges and a TV. Some nights need it. And just a short stroll to a beautiful beach.
Fantastic hostel. Amazing staff. I'll be back...

The staff are the best thing about this hostel, they were very friendly and went out of their way to help you, we arrived after breakfast but Joy made the effort of getting us some. Stayed in a private room, which was really nice and clean, nothing at all to complain about. I stayed with a friend and we wanted to go to Chewang for the night but it was too expensive as there was not enough people which was very disappointing, so if you want to be where the parties are, not an ideal location. However the staff did try to get a group together, so not their fault!

Room Tip: Go for a dorm!
