“French cafe in Thailand”
Reviewed March 5, 2013 via mobile

We went eating there last night after being rejected from The Larder bcs they were overbooked.
We expected 69 would do the same, but though they were full inside, they found us a table outside...without making it a problem.
The location next to the road is for some not charming, but go to Paris, London or Copenhagen and you'll see that it is charming.
My boyfriend was a bit tired of thai food, so they offered by them selves to cook him something different than from the menu. We shared the magnificient chicken dumplings as a starter, i got the long cooked chicken and a simple plain European meal for by boyfriend.
It was well prepared with a lovely flavour and we were both very pleased.
For dessert we both ordered the banana pancake (which was 320 baht each!) - none of us could eat it all bcs of the size...so though the staff was unbelieveable nice and were taking very good care of us, i would have wished, they had told us to share it.
We paid 1600 baht for 1 starter, 2 maincourses, 2 desserts, drinks and coffee...and though its a lot of money compared to other thai-places, it was worth it. The staff and the owner are in our top 5 list of the nicest people we've met so far.

“Great little spot with even better staff!”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Food is great in this quirky little cafe. Vivian and the staff make it a really good experience here. So attentive and genuinely nice. We ate the soft shell crab with pepper sauce, curry dumplings and a green curry with mango and roti bread. We really had a good time here and will come back again!

“Cafe 69 ... We Miss You!”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

It has been a month since we returned from our Thailand vacation and the lasting memories now surfacing. Of our many restaurant experiences, the one standing out as clear favourite is Cafe 69. We learned about this little gem from Trip Advisor reviews of restaurants in Bophut. It was also highly recommended by the reception staff of the fabulous Hansar Samui. The proprietor, Chef Vivian, is surely one of the most personable and hard working people in Thailand. Cooking and hospitality are his passions and it shows from the friendly welcome to the presentation of delicious and creative Thai fusion menu items. We dined at Cafe 69 twice and tried a variety of appetisers and entrees, especially enjoyed the daily fish and seafood mains (incredible tiger prawns).

Do not be discouraged by the location on a busy street, make reservations and request a table inside (the restaurant is very small). The decor is modest and funky, atmosphere upbeat and casual. The staff do their very best to deliver attentive service. Chef Vivian darts between tables and kitchen delivering his personal touch of hospitality with great style and enthusiasm.

On another note, just a few steps away is an excellent shop selling quality Thai/Balinese decorative arts, Oriental Art Home Deco Antiques & Buddha. Likely the best shop of its kind in Koh Samui, good place to browse for souvenirs before going to dinner at Cafe 69.

“Wine me, dine me, 69 me!”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

After booking a family dinner here the night before my brothers wedding I was a little worried when we arrived to shimmering sequence tablecloths, statements like the title of this review all over the menu's and an interesting male host named Vivian! However the saying 'dont judge a book by its cover' could not be more fitting! Fantastic, authentic Thai food, great fresh cocktails and a cool, eclectic atmosphere! The Thai curry wonton flowers were a treat as we're the curries...a nice little find and we'll worth the visit!

“Thankyou cafe69!”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

After driving around trying to find a particular restaurant that was on trip advisor we got there only to find it was all booked up! So we saw cafe 69 driving back and thought lets give it a go! And thank god we did! If your looking for Thai food with a twist, beautiful cocktails and amazing service from such beautiful people Cafe69 won't let you down! It was our last night on our honeymoon in koh samui and after dining at some of the most expensive restaurants on the island it was nice to have awesome food without the price tag! Thankyou for an enjoyable experience my only regret is that I didn't try Desert! Tahnee and James :)
