“We loved it!”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

My girlfriend and I went here over the Christmas holidays after a friend told us about it, Vivien was hugely welcoming, great fun and won us over before we even tasted the food.

Once the food came we were very impressed, huge tasty portions and a bit differnent to the norm, my girlfriend found hers too hot, which we never mentioned but they must have noticed as they insisted on getting us a fresh meal straight away!

If you sit inside it's cool, quirky decor and considering Vivien has only been going a short space of time I am sure he will take this to a more glamorous venue in the future.

Please go and embrace the quirkiness for what it is!

“Best restaurant in bophut”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

We went to Cafe 69 on the recommendation of trip advisor and we didn't leave disappointed. As soon as you walk in you notice the flamboyant decor and the friendliness of the staff. The owner Vivienne couldn't be more accommodating and friendly ,on one occasion we visited he even took our order over the phone as he was at the market buying food and the waitress struggled to understand my accent!
The food certainly didn't disappoint from the quirky presentation to the amazing taste .
We went to the restaurant twice but certainly would have visited more if we could have done-especially after some of our dining experiences in the Fisherman's Village

“Mixed feelings ...”
Reviewed February 15, 2013 via mobile

We went on valentines day to cafe 69 due to great reviews on tripadvisor, but I have to say I was disappointed ... Yes it's quirky and different, but location on the main road isn't great, maybe we should've sat inside but it was quite full and the stool chairs inside were not suitable for our baby to sit on, the service is good, and staff are friendly but the menu is a little strange and just made up of a specials board which we wouldn't hear the waitress explain due to noise of traffic. No vegetarian items on menu but they did do things on request, however my green curry was just like veg in thick cream so sickly couldn't eat it, my husband enjoyed his fish tho, hence the mixed feelings, we also got bitten to death by Mosquitos here so maybe a few burning coils outside would've been nice. I wouldn't recommend this place at all, it's trying to be an al la carte place but it just doesn't pull it off, it's expensive as well, it was the most expensive meal we ate in a month around 1300 baht and we only had 3 drinks between us, you can eat in le cabanon, shades or krua cheaper and sit on the beach in much nicer surroundings. Basically don't believe the hype ...

“Why so highly rated?”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

We were recommended to 69. After eating a meal there we came away asking ourselves why is it so highly regarded? The service is excellent. We hadn't booked and it was valentines night but the staff were very accommodating and found us a table. The food was good, if a little rich, and it was well presented. However the menu is very restricted. There isn't much choice if you can't eat shellfish or rich food. It is quite expensive and the situation alongside the ring road is not ideal.
We have eaten in half a dozen restaurants in the locality recently, and would rate them all higher.

“Interesting and imaginative food”
Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

We have now visited 3 times. The food is imaginative and the cafe is nice and quirky. Vivien, the owner is a real character and provides excellent service. The place is small and next to the main road, but it is great sitting outside watching the Thai driving display, which is entertaining in itself as long as you are not one of the lunatics on the road . I can recommend the chicken dumplings.
This place is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
