I am really struggling to rate this, as many aspects were 5 star plus, others 1-2 star. Let's start with the good:
Amazing views and great rooms (we stayed in the Wow rooms)
Well equipped gym
Great pool - get a space early though as there are not many chairs due to the fact that the sun deck never had any chairs to use, so the sunbathers all congregate here and take up all the space. Put chairs on sun deck so it can be used!
Very friendly staff.
Nice massage treatments
Can hire scooters from resort. Slightly more expensive than the towns at $300B/day but that's still good.
Not so good:
Some days we didn't get fresh towels and tea bags never refilled. No milk in fridge. We resorted to grabbing extra towels from the pool to compensate. Quite expensive so hit a local 7/11 for supplies.
As part of our deal, we had a free dinner voucher which we ended up having to embarressingly debate for 20 minutes with the waiter who made claims that the voucher was misprinted and wrong, until I asked to speak with the manager to sort it out when he apologized. Not good enough, myself and family were embarrassed at the commotion and we had done nothing wrong than use the voucher provided. We didn't bother using our other voucher due to the fuss provided and difficulty in using.
The amazing views are afforded by being on the side of a steep hill. This means tough walks to rooms or calling for the cart to move around. It's very quick, but sometimes you'd like to be able to just walk around, if you have bad knees you will need to use the cart.
Shuttle service is free but could be run so much better, still appreciated it though. Taxis on koh samui are a rip-off. Hire a car or scooter instead if you stay here.
Book tours through reception and it all runs smoothly. Was hard booking on the phone but in person things could be sorted.
Would I stay again.....I don't know. I did enjoy it (dining experience aside)....great views and beautiful grounds, maybe???

Stayed here for 3 nights (3-6th July 2014) and absolutely loved the place. The setting of this hotel is wonderful, fantastic views and total relaxation away from the hustle and bustle. The staff where extremely helpful and friendly. Our room was the Cozy Mantra Superior, well worth the extra cash if you can afford it, really big room with separate bedroom and the bathroom was was pure luxury also. The breakfast was gorgeous with a large selection to choose from. The hotel also run themed nights (e.g. Thai buffet with Thai traditional music/dancers, BBQ etc) which are great for trying different foods, well worth the money for the all you can eat!!..did over indulge a bit though ;-/ The only complaint (which I knew before I booked) is that it is a bit away from the main town but the hotel also offer a shuttle service which you need to book in advance which will take to and from the beach towns nearby. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel particularly if you were looking for relaxing getaway!

We spent five nights here and we enjoyed it.
Firstly we were picked up at the airport by shuttle bus ( no charge ) and taken to this resort up a hill. Upon arrival I was abit confused if we were at the right resort. The reception area is very unusual, it doesn't look like a reception area for such a lovely resort. Don't get me wrong it's just very layed back. We were ushered to our room by buggy and told we were on the forth floor, which was four floors up. No elevator so we had to climb up and down, up and down all the time which was a bit tiring at times. The communal areas are superb with an infinity pool and excellent restaurant. Which was a bit overpriced in my opinion. The fitness area looked good though we never used this facility or the theatre room. The service was excellent and the room service was great. The room we stayed in was a love room it had a spa on the balcony and a big lounge bed. I would have liked an awning over it because the balcony was not a place to linger when the sun was out. The room itself was a bit on the tired side, it definately needed a paint job and the bathroom area was ok but the actual shower area needed a good going over. The bed had a large base that stuck out away from the bed about two feet around. My husband hit his shins on it a few times and we both found it very hard to get in and out of bed. So I wound of preferred just a normal bed. The down side to this hotel for me was the hilly location. It felt like we were isolated at times, unless you hired a bike or took the shuttle bus which wasent ideally timed for us, you would have to take an overpriced taxi. The actual resort was on a hill which was hard to walk up and down. They did drive you up and down in their buggy but it wasent always handy. And the wifi was non existent. This resort seemed to have a lot of younger couples staying here with the hills and the stairs not being a problem, but for me being a bit older I found it hard going at times. Would I stay here again, probably if the price was right but as far as location I would say no.

Room Tip: Good views get a high room, however be prepared for a four floor hike every time you leave your room...

Great facilities. We had a cosy room with a cot for our daughter, and she was able to sleep seperately in the lounge very comfortably. Very well appointed rooms, with nice views and facilities. The location is fantastic for the views, and getting to Bo Phut or Chaweng is easy with the shuttles. We opted to return via taxi, and we found paying 300-350 baht from Bo Phut was fair and reasonable as we wouldn't tackle the road up to the resort with a child! The pool is fantastic (and we preferred the pool to swimming at the beach), as are the gym faciltiies. There is a little room for toddlers/young children for entertainment which our daughter enjoyed. Breakfasts were very good. Staff were lovely. In short, we couldn't fault the resort and would certainly return.

Although at first glance the hillside resort could look intimidating by the end of our stay all the hill presented was the best view of the island.
The best position to enjoy the view is in the pool bar!
Everything made easy by the friendly professional staff and the golf carts haha
The room was excellent....everything was excellent!!

The Mantra hotel is approximately a 20 minute drive away from the airport. It is nesseled up in the hills of Bophut. On arrival you are greeted by a lovely hostess and ushered up to your room via a golf buggie. The resort itself is beautiful. It is not wheelchair friendly, as it has been built into the hill. The location itself is not in the centre of the husel and busel, but it is only a five minute scooter ride to areas such as fishermans market.

We are currently staying at the Mantra for 10 days in the 'Love suite'. This suite offers a large room with a king size bed. The photos provided by the hotel on their website are not at all misleading. The presentation of the rooms is lovely. There are lovely little touches everywhere including a daily affirmation left on the bed and oil burners in the bathroom. The bathroom itself offers a large shower and double basin. The love suites are adults only although there are family friendly areas. The view from the resort is breathtaking. Every room boast a view all the way out to the ocean. You also have the use of a priviate spa on the deck.

The facilities include a well equip 24hr gym, spa, movie theatre, children's kids club, restaurant and suna. The infinity pool is great. You do need to get in early if you want to secure a sun lounge as they are in short supply. The wifi is free of charge although dial up gives it a run for its money. The network is not reliable. It constantly drops in and out. They also provide a bus service that drops you down the hill or alternatively you can hire a scooter for $10 AUD a day.

The restaurant itself offers a large selection of over priced food. You are paying the same price for something you would at home that is half the quality. The drinks at the bar are also on the pricy side. The breakfast buffet is great providing everything from traditional Asian breakfast to Danishes, freshily baked breads, fresh fruit and a selection of cooked western breakfast options.

I am aware that being in a non-English speaking country, there would be times where communication issues arise. We found this to be a frequent occurrence. We had issuing ordering a side of chips from room service, requesting an iron from the front desk and there were times where service was just poor in general. This surprised us as mantra has an international brand to uphold and 90% of the guest were English speaking, you would think that the staff would be able to speak at least broken English. In saying that they were all very friendly and aimed to attend to our requests as soon as possible.

Room Tip: If you are childless go for the love suite!

This hotel loves up to the expectations of its photos. The staff were so friendly from the moment we got there. We arrived a little bit earlier than check in and the hotel were happy to hold our bags while we sat by the pool until our room was ready. Stayed in a love room which had a gorgeous interior. Movie selection was great. Only bad thing about it was our room was positioned right next to the main path of the resort so the view wasn't great and anyone walking past could see right onto our balcony, not much privacy at all. If staying in a love room and you want privacy, maybe ask to not be put in this one. Apart from that, breakfast had a great variety and the infinity pool was beyond my expectations, beautiful! The gym was also good for any gym junkies and had an amazing view whilst working out. The resort is up in the hills so is a bit hard to get places unless you take the shuttle, but they have scooter hire at reception which makes things a lot easier as well.

Room Tip: Love rooms are great for couples
