The hotel is very funky and unusual. We really enjoyed our 2 week stay. The hotel owners and staff have turned the location into a unique selling point. Yes it is away from the beach but the shuttles get you to Chaweng or Bophut and are very good. The views from the balcony of room 132 are amazing and need to be seen to be believed. The jacuzzi bath on the balcony is a great treat when it's very hot and you need to cool off. The infinity pool is also spectacular allowing you to swim towards that fantastic view or you can swim up to the bar and enjoy a drink whilst in the pool. Just simply magical.

As mentioned in other posts the hotel is hilly but we found it good exercise that got easier as our stay went on. We could have opted to use the chauffeur driven buggies that were always available but we chose to walk off the sumptuous meals from the mantra restaurant.

We eat at the restaurant a few times and the garlic bread was the best we have ever had. The pineapple pie of the day was also the best dessert we have had in our two week stay. Try it. It was simple divine.

Thank you to Koong and the team for making our stay so perfect. We hope to see you again next year and are already saving up to come back in 2014.

Best wishes

Paul and Wendy.

the staffs are very friendly and helpful. Although the location is at the mountain but they provide shuttle bus which was quite good. The swimming pool had a great view. The room was big and spacious the movie collection was great. The view was fantastic from the room! The breakfast was quite limited if staying for a long time. but overall was a great stay... me and my gf really enjoyed the spa... would definitely return to mantra samui..

A fun and querky hotel with some of the best facilities I have seen in many years, love room 154 was spacious, clean and comfortable.
Restaurant and Bar are excellent with beautifully prepared food, staff are all very welcoming and friendly.
It is alittle out of town but there is a free shuttle service for those wishing to explore the local towns, although the hotel has everything you could wish for, making for a perfect relaxing stay.
Only slight positive was the pool side area, pool is beautiful and the terrace is a real hot spot but there aren't enough loungers.
All in all a great stay and would definately stay again.

Firstly lets deal with the so called seasoned travellers who complain about this resort being on a steep hill and so on... If you bothered to read the several hundred reviews on here the information is all there!! Either get a life or book a hotel at three or four times the price of this one on the beach.

We got a bargain paying just 3000 baht a night for for a couple and a 7 year old in a COZY room wihich included breakfast... we stayed in Bangkok for 3 nights and were stung for 2765 per night for an extra bed for our 7 year old!!

We used the shuttles twice a day to visit Bophut beach(free loungers at bars/rerstaurants if we bought drinks there) and Chaewang(preferred Chaewang beach but had to pay 200 baht per day for a decent sun lounger but this included a good towel)

Only used the pool on our returns from beach as there are only 30 loungers but I believe they are getting another pool here. Not a major problem as I reckon you should come to Koh Samui to visit the beaches.

Enjoyed our breakfast. only disappointment was ordering a Yellow curry for dinner and got a green one and when I mentioned to the waiter on clearing the curry which we didn't eat he insisted it was a yellow curry...no it wasn't...!! it was green, too spicy for a yellow curry..and had all the green curry ingredients e.g. thai aubergines and so on.. no potatoes which should be in a yellow curry so we just ate in Bophut after that.

Summing up a bargain hotel in Koh Samui if you read the reviews.. Drinks on the pricy side but use Bophut or Chaewang at night and you'll be fine

Room Tip: book a COZY room if with kids and a LOVE room if a couple as those LOVE blaconies are massive and ha...

Mantra Samui has everything going for them: the food, views, staff, peace and serenity, quality of services, and beautiful rooms - and the gym is a REAL gym (open 24 hours) with a sauna and steamroom. They also have about 20 free shuttles a day to take you to the beach and nearby city for shopping and nightlife. But the real kicker is in the little details that keep surprising you throughout your stay: the little heartful yet funny quotes painted on the roads, the degree and depth of respect and attentiveness you get from the staff, and the length the resort has gone to make their resort environmentally friendly.

After 7 days at Mantra Samui I can say that it is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed. I have given the resort a 4 star rating as I think this is fair. I work in a 5 star resort, so I am one to notice the little things - but not one to care!
Yes, there is a big hill and if you are wheelchair bound or cannot tackle a set of stairs, Mantra Samui is not the place for you. There are no wheelchair facilities within the complex. If you are physically able, the hill is the best way to ensure you don't feel guilty for having the extra pancake at breakfast. (they are amazing - be sure to try one!)
The rooms are beautiful and the view is to die for. The beds are so comfortable and extra bedding is available upon request - actually, anything is available upon request.
My constructive criticism to the Management would be to supply a 'make up my room' sign to indicate to housekeeping when guests would like their room cleaned. It would take a lot of stress off the housekeeping and save time. Daily room servicing was included but sometimes seemed rushed. We didn't receive our complimentary bottle of water one day and our linen was mixed up on another. Both very minor things. A big thank you to the Mantra Samui Team for an enjoyable stay!

Room Tip: Room 155 is on the first floor but has great views and once you are inside it is private away from t...

This hotel is great value for money. The staff are all very happy and friendly along with very at -tentative. I stayed in the Wow room which is the standard room and found it to be more than wow!
These rooms are located on the top of the hill and have the most amazing views I've seen, the only downfall is it is very steep to get up so you often ind yourself needing the golf buggy lifts.
The rooms are huge and have awesome decor and big tv with a selection of in house movies. The only two things I can fault are 1) the pillows are all to soft ( and I think made of down) and the shower and toilet are all in the same area so the shower splashes a lot of water everywhere. Next o brekkie- some is a la carte and some is buffet. You order your choice of eggs but the rest you help yourself. Coffees are also made to order like a cafe including ice coffee and all or free! The normal restaurant menu was amazing but I would definitely not recommend their BBQ night. We were embarrassed we invited people up for tea but there was minimal food and it was a bit bland an they charged 750 baht. However dinner there another night was spectacular ( sate chicken, sping rolls and four cheese linguine). The pool is the highlight of the stay. It is one of those cliff top pools that drops off. Great size too. And finally another great feature of the hotel isthe free shuttle service. You can even ask to be dropped off down the side of the road if need be. The hotel staff are very flexible.

Room Tip: Honeymooners should choose the love room!
