My husband and I visited this lovely hotel for 11 days from 28 November 2014. Staff at this hotel are friendly and can't do enough for you, always ready to help and always smiling. The hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from Fisherman's market (at its busiest every Friday and a MUST! for anyone staying at Bophut). We stayed on a B&B basis and breakfast was a mix of buffet and table service for special requests such as scrambled or fried eggs, eggs benedict, porridge..... you name it. There was something there for every taste and tbh we did not really need anything else to eat until late afternoon / early evening.
The room was very smart and comfortable; I took inspiration from the bathroom / shower and am currently trying to pursuade my husband to let me have something similar at home :P. I'm a very light sleeper and love a comfortable bed - I slept like a log every night we were there.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone

Disclaimer. I have not seen the whole island. Of what I have seen the location of The Hansar is tops.

Best points: absolute beachfront with great views. The balconies are a winner. The central garden and pool area are well designed and well maintained. The design of the public areas references the environment and from a distance the grey terrazzo floors sometimes look like pools of water. The breakfast is very good and of course you dine with a view of the sea.

Worst points: the rooms are poorly designed and the minimal wardrobe space results in clothes being spread around the room looking for a home. The drying racks on the balconies were an inspired idea and are well utilised. As is often the case in Thailand the build quality is not great. Housekeeping is average.

Note to architect: when specifying air conditioning systems first check decibel ratings. The white noise in our room was way too high for comfort.

Overall the location and public areas are a good proposition. 4.5 stars from me.

My wife and I spent a lovely long weekend at the Hansar, celebrating an anniversary. The property is well designed, with maximum use of wood. The grounds are quiet, breakfast is prepared to order and delicious. Overall, a very good experience. We didn't grant it the Excellent category for a couple of minor reasons: the check-in was a bit brusque, and the housekeeping a bit off, with some missed spots. But overall a very good experience.

Room Tip: Larger rooms have a spacious balcony with sea view.

Hansar Resort was perfect for our needs, as we were looking for a place to just relax and not do much besides lay by the pool and the ocean. The resort is small, which is a plus. We were never crowded at the pool or restaurant. The staff is attentive, without being overbearing, and the attitude was casual not stuffy. The pool is just perfect; infinity pool with cool inset seats with jets along the back wall. The room was not 5* quality, as you would get in a St Regis or Four Seasons, but it was comfortable with a perfect view. We had room on the 3rd floor which we really enjoyed. If you are going to Koh Samui, I highly recommended this resort.

Room Tip: High floor had a better view

Hansar Bophut is without a doubt the best located resort on Bophut beach. It's right next to the Fishermans Village, it's the closest you can get to the action of Bophut, yet from the resort you can't hear anything from the village. There is a little cobble stone road between the resort and the beach which means, unlike all the other resorts in Bophut you don't have to walk on the sand to get to the Fishermans village which is a huge bonus as the sand is a bit difficult to walk on. The little road is extremely quiet, and not disruptive at all. Sometimes the pancake carts walk buy and you can run out and buy things, it's perfect. Location location!!

As for the resort itself, it is wonderful. The pool is one of the best I have experienced. It's a large infinity lap pool overlooking Bophut Bay. The view is absolutely stunning. To be able to sit and experience this is priceless. It's just perfection. There are spa jets and seats in the pool where you can sit and daydream while being massaged. Although the hotel was full it never felt busy by the pool. Getting a sun bed was never a problem, plenty of umbrellas, they bring around cold bottles of water all day. Happy hour 3 times a day at 1.30pm, 6.30pm and 9.30pm. What more could you ask for, it's divine. Love a great pool with a spectacular view from every angle.

The rooms are a great size and very comfortable, only 3 room types to choose from. Lead in Seaview rooms are a great size for a couple. The bathrooms are completely open plan so if you are shy you may not like them, there is literally no privacy in the bathroom whatsoever. Aesthetically it's beautiful but probably not completely functional. The sink has no bench around it so the location of the soap dish and towels is a little bit awkward. I made do, but some bench space around the sink would have been a good idea. The shower is huge, rain shower with a Seaview. That's pretty special. But once again zero privacy in the shower. Not a problem if you aren't shy with your partner. The twin rooms do have frosted glass between the shower and the room but still no door on the bathroom. No frosted glass in king rooms. Twin rooms have a side Seaview whereas king rooms have full Seaview. There is plenty of cupboard space, great big balcony with large daybed to relax and ceiling fan on the balcony. Very modern. Big drying rack to hang your swimsuit out to dry. It basically has everything you need. No elevators so if you don't like stairs choose a ground floor room, otherwise from the 1st floor the views are amazing. Ask for a room in the middle of the main. Holding overlooking the pool. If privacy is an issue for you they can put curtains up around the bathroom for you so there is always a solution. Just need to request it.

Breakfast is part al a carte and part buffet. Eggs, pancakes etc is a la carte and on the buffet there are some hot food selections, cheeses, cold meats, veggies, fruit, small selection of pastries and toast. It's not the biggest or best buffet breakfast I have ever experienced but it does the job and once again you can enjoy the Seaview from your table. The staff are lovely and remember your order everyday.

I have not experienced dinner at H Bistro as I prefer to go into the Fishermans Village for dinner. There are a selection of beautiful restaurants along the beach with once again, great sea views, you can watch the sun go down while eating, it's spectacular. Then go for a foot massage. What more could you ask for in a holiday. If you need more action you can easily get a taxi into Chaweng, it costs 400 Baht each way, not cheap. It's much busier down there. Make sure you spend a Friday night in Bophut as the whole village gets closed to traffic and becomes a huge night market selling all sorts of things as well as wonderful street food that is very safe to eat. I highly recommend it, has a great buzz. People come from all over the island for the market.
