We booked 4 nights at Maryoo and stayed for less that 24 hours.
Unfortunately my partner and I (in out early 20's) had just come from 7 days at Kandaburi Resort and Spa which we loved.
On arriving at Maryoo we felt like we were in ghost town, barely any staff members and no other guests that we could see. It took a long time to process our check in, we paid upfront and they took my printed off asiarooms "booking confirmation" email as proof of booking. (most places had their own records and I found this very strange)
Nevertheless we were determined to give the place a chance. We went to our room and discovered red ants crawling on the floor, spiders and mosquitos. Putting it down to bad luck we said nothing and went for a walk to look for a restaurant. There is nothing in walking distance of Maryoo. Instead, we asked the hotel if they had a restaurant. The lady behind the bar knew no english and asked the man who had checked us in to help us. He said that there was a restaurant but their cook (their one and only cook) had gone to the market. As a last resort we hired the hotel's scooter (their one and only scooter) and found a nice hub of restaurants 8 - 10minutes scooter ride North of Maryoo.
When we returned from lunch we found the red ants all over our room and biting our feet, we told the man at reception and he moved us to a room with a decidedly less nice view but at least it was bug free-ish.
The pool looked nice but it rained that afternoon so we stayed inside. For dinner we hopped on the scooter again and went to the same street of restaurants. That night was fine, the rooms are furnished very nicely and the views of the ocean are very pleasant.
The next morning we went to have breakfast. There was 4 or 5 choices of 'breakfast sets' on the menu. My boyfriend and I chose different options and were dissatisfied with both. At the bottom of the menu it said you could also have Tea, Coffee or Orange Juice. We asked for 2 orange juices. 10 minutes later the chef returned and pointed to that section of the menu and told us that they didn't have those things. When we said "Orange juice?" he said "Yes we have Orange Juice".... so he came back with two small glasses of it. At the end of breakfast we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee..... ... ... ... ... We were very unimpressed at this stage. We were not confident on the scooter, we were near a beach but could not find any access without walking through another resort and the hotel was not walking distance to anything.
One thing I will say for Maryoo is that they have good free wi-fi which not all resorts offer.
So, if you don't mind riding a scooter everywhere then there is nothing exceptionally terrible about Maryoo except the breakfast and the atmosphere of a haunted house.
The rooms are lovely if you're lucky enough to score one without bugs and one out of the three staff speak english quite well.
