“Nice food, slow service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2014

Shades Beach restaurant is in the Fisherman;s Village and offers seating inside and out on the beach.
The menu is quite varied, offering Thai, Indian and a large choice of fresh fish. We opted to it at a table out on the beach which was nice (despite the tilted table). We found that the service was rather slow and at times it was difficult to get the attention of the waiters, though in fairness to them it was busy.
The restaurant also had a musician playing music which was a nice touch.
The food we ordered was very nice, I had an Indian curry dish and was pleasantly surprised.
Shades is a good restaurant, Maybe not Very Good, but better than average. 3.5 would probably be more of a true reflection in my opinion.

“Chaos”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2014 via mobile

We ate here last night and initially it looked promising. The main course was fine, but as soon as a few people arrived, chaos ensued. The staff were running around like headless chickens and it was absolutely impossible to attract the attention of any waiting staff. As it got busier, the staff got more bad tempered, and were positively hostile when we left.
We would,never go back.

“Outstanding experience. Our favorite of this trip.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2014

This place is the current leader on the leaderboard.
As we walked along the Fisherman's Market, this place jumped out as it looked like it had quite nice beach tables, and the spruikers out the front were quite pleasant.
I took my parents in, and it was SO. GOOD.
Awesome seafood... best we've had in Thailand.
I'm seriously surprised about the lowish rating this restaurant has. We went last night, and I'm tempted to go back tomorrow night. My barracuda was delicious, and it wasn't even the best meal on the table.
Highly recommended. I felt compelled to thank every employee on the way out. Really great meal.
Thank you Shades!

“Great food, good service amazing sunset views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2014

This place has to be the place to eat as the sun goes down, sit either on the beach or on the balcony with the live music, order a beer and your food and watch the sun set, truly amazing experience, the food is of a good standard, tasty and good size portion, the service levels where good attentive without being in your face, but the sunset is without a doubt the highlight, live music plays most nights and the prices are competitive, after dinner enjoy the night street market,

“Terrible service, Terrible food and very overpriced.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014

Not normally one to write a review but this place was terrible. We ordered seafood to be cooked on the barbecue, prawns, lobster etc... All the food was tasteless, some of it cold and the majority over cooked. We had to send back the squid as it was in edible (horricfully over cooked). They did replace it but it still wasn't very well cooked. The meal cost just over 2000 baht, I would have felt robbed paying 200 baht. The produce does look very good before they cook it, seems to me that they are just over cooking it which is a shame, as the setting on the beach was lovely. I would have to say that this is the worst place that we've eaten at during our stay on Thailand where we've eaten street food in bangkok and meals at the airport which have all been significantly more enjoyable. I would suggest they need to improve their customer service skills along with their cooking skills. As they have a lovely setting and could be a fantastic resturant. In the mean time I would avoid this place and go the the hut resturant at the other end of fishermens village. Family run resturant serving fantastic Thai food for a very good price, lots of very good reviews can be found on trip adviser for this place.
