“Great Hotel-Great Staff !”
Reviewed February 21, 2014

My wife and I stayed at the Ibis Ko Samui for 14 days from 29th January 2014... we were part of a U.K./Australian trip of 11 persons, to celebrate a relatives wedding. I found the hotel to be almost perfect. The staff were always polite and attentive.Very clean hotel throughout. Limitless wi/fi. The hotel grounds were beautiful and the pool area's faultless. I found the breakfasts were a little limited but enjoyable nonetheless.Try and get one of the 'Ocean View' rooms, they are dearer but worth it for the magnificent vista that will greet you when you wake up.
A couple of times the pool bar ran out of wine and draught beer but "what the hell" it really didn't matter as we were all having a great time ! A lot of comments were made about the small rooms and the limited cupboard space for clothes but to my mind, the Ibis is approaching a five star hotel but with 3/4 star pricing so who can really complain if the cupboards were small ? A lot of reviewers comment on 'Fishermans Village' and rightly so ! It is a MUST to go to. We found the taxi's outside the Ibis would take you to the 'Village' for only 200 baht per car full. Great value !
We found a good tailor in the Village called "Tom Collection" on the main road down to the coast. A lot of the group had pants, shorts, suits made etc and they were all perfectly made at a good price. If you enjoy Italian cuisine then pay a visit or two to "Classico" restaurant along the roadway running alongside the coast. You will not be disappointed. Another amazing trip we all went on was the "Red Baron" dinner cruise... a journey around the islands closely adjacent to the North coast of Ko Samui which is not to be missed... to miss this, is really a mistake !
The area of Cheng weigh ? which lies on the East coast of Samui ( about 15 mins drive ) is a lot like Patong over in Phuket. Full of life/tourists/restaurants/music but has a magnificent beach with fine sand. You can hire a car and driver outside the Ibis for a half day for around 2000 baht ( divide that between 6 of you and its peanuts ) the road around the island is only 50-60 kilometres long with many stop off entertainment area's on the way.
The wedding we went to celebrate was unbelievable... quite the most enjoyable event we have attended in many years. It was arranged by "Faraway Weddings". Their Villa is on the West coast and is perfect for sunsets. A beautiful, unspoilt beach. Quiet and unforgettable!
We had an unfortunate experience with one of the restaurants opposite the hotel called "Doyles" they had run out of a particular type of meal but didn't bother to tell us until all the other meals were being served !! on questioning the Irish owner about this let down we received no apologies, just a couldn't care less attitude. In his defence, there were a lot of people there but thats no excuse for rudeness. The other restaurant opposite the Ibis was "A.Ks" it was nice and the hostess couldn't do enough for her customers. In closing... Ko Samui is a treat, the Ibis Hotel highly recommended, Fishermans Village a must see, indeed a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for an Ocean View. They can be a bit noisy just above the breakfast area. Ask the...

We only stayed one night but have rebooked to go back. On check in Nat behind reception was friendly, efficient and a pleasure to deal with. We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite and the room was modern, clean and spacious, wifi was excellent too and free. Bathroom small but great shower and again very clean. The pool area was a little small but as not crowded wasn't an issue. Pool leads onto the beach as well. Breakfast was one of the best we had in Thailand, with a choice of traditional and western dishes. Only one small issue while we stayed at this hotel was the tour desk gave us incorrect information about sleeper trains in Thailand which caused us a bit of grief but aside from that the stay we had was great. Looking forward to visiting again.

Good hotel in good location. Right on the beach. Was full when I was there but could always get a sun bed....just not always where I wanted. Rooms spotless but not much hanging space or drawers. But that's usual for ibis. One tip. The sea view rooms over the restaurant are noisy from 7 due to movement below in restaurant. If you are an early riser no problem, if you want a lie in then beware!

Food sellers on beach are good and cheap.

Opposite is irish pub and numerous restaurants for as far as you can walk.

Good choice nearby (out of hotel and left) is hi noon restaurant. Local thai family run it. Does good quality thai food all day.

2 other choices I would recommend are ali siam restaurant. ..left out of hotel opposite side of road maybe 10 or 15 minute walk. Also oasis in the fisherman's village. Again local food cooked by local people.

Fisherman's village is a 20 minute walk. Good walking street on a Friday. Taxis try and rip you off. Hotel does shuttle for 50 baht each way.

Drinks in local pubs etc are around 120 baht for a draught pint or 100 baht for a large bottle (630 ml)

Food in restaurants above is around 80 to 100 baht for thai curry and rice.

This property is an amazing place to relax and rejuvenate yourself.. Lovely location in Koh Samui.. The layout of this property is just beautiful. With a lovely pool, a private beach and good restaurants, this is one of the best places to stay in Koh Samui. Just loved my stay in this property. The rooms though small but are yet very cozy and well maintained...

Good budget hotel for backpackers staying for couple of days but not so good for a longer stay due to the total lack of cupboard/ wardrobe space in the rooms. Six hangers for two people and one half wardrobe and a small shelf above means you basically live out of your suitcase. It feels a bit like camping but with a room. Rooms are basic but clean with a small balcony. The staff in the bar and restaurant are really friendly and attentive but it's difficult to get info or problems sorted by the front of house staff because of the language barrier. It's unreasonable to expect guests to learn fluent Thai for a two week holiday and a hotel is a service industry so I think a bit more work on this by the management would be helpful. The grounds, bar and pool area are immaculate and well tended and easy access to the beach is great. Barely enough sunbeds round the pool but because the beach is so close it wasn't a problem most of the time. The breakfast is fine without being outstanding but the specials nights can be a bit expensive if you eat at the hotel ( we didn't ) £7 for a BBQ chicken breast is pushing it when you can go outside and get a starter and main course in any restaurant for the same money. The walkways and corridors are very barren and unappealing with beige walls and beige tiles with no relief. It looks like a barrack block and I should know, I've been in a few. Basic doesn't have to mean austere so again, we're meant to be in Thailand, let's see it! In contrast, the foyer is a very attractive, comfortable place to sit and people watch in. The vast majority of the guests were Russian so if you think you're going to meet people at the bar and make friends think again. Apart from one notable exception we chatted to, they are as graceless, charmless and humourless as they are anywhere else. So, to sum up, fine for a few days stay if you're not expecting to spend too much time in the hotel and use it as a base but I wouldn't recommend it for a long stay .

Room Tip: They're all much of a muchness

Rooms were lovely, pool is great, however the food is TERRIBLE and the staff were all rude (apart from one possibly English man that worked at the front desk)

The food was frozen rubbish that was always served cold as if it had been sitting there for an hour (other reviews say this!) and it's really overpriced.

The staff couldn't have been ruder. No one spoke English and the ones who did would answer questions with 'no.' Or 'I don't know'. The best one was when we were told to leave the breakfast hall very rudely when it hit 10am (when it ends) and we had nearly finished our food anyway (there were still about 10 tables eating). The member of staff just came up to our table with a stern face and yelled 'please finish'

Very odd seeing as Ibis is a well known hotel company.
