Ideal beach front hotel to stop when travelling from Bankok to Koh Tao .There are flights by Bankok air from Bankok to Samui ( approx 5000 baht) and after an overnight stop ,the morning or afternoon cat to Koh Tao can be taken for 600 baht , Pay between 1200 to 1500 Baht for a room with a good selection of breakfast. This was for me a more pleasant route than an overland bus from Bankok to Chumphon then by cat to Koh Tao (1000) baht)..Did it both methods and prefered the plane which took 8 hours less. This depends on your budget of course.

Dear Brianjaguar,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about you experience at our Hotel !

As you mentioned it, the location of the ibis Bophut Samui is ideal for people who travel around the three islands (Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan) and who would like to have a rest before their next stop ; indeed the ferries are located near our hotel on the same road !

Thank you again for your nice review and we hope to welcome you back soon.

Warm regards,

We expected modest accommodation for a cheap price ... But we got pretty good facilities, but awful service!

Booked a family room - ended up with two adjoining rooms ... Bonus! Much better deal - the adjoining room had a Wii with 315 games loaded up ... The kids room had a Playstation with one game ... But also single beds rather than bunks, own bathroom etc.

Pools good and plenty of chairs both on beach and around pools ... Could do with a few more umbrellas at times though. Beach sellers come along but not harassing ... The spring rolls for 30 baht and chicken sticks for 20 baht are great ... Fruit fresh and tasty!! Two for one happy hour from 5 - 7pm each night .. But only two cocktails qualify each day.

Breakfast is average ... No bacon but cooked ham ( no reason for this apparently!), coffee is decent, pastries stale. Omlettes made to
order were good. Juice is watered down pre-mix stuff rather than real juice. Staff do not go out of their way to help seat guests or assist ... Just cross you name off and go back to their conversations with each other (see service section below - this is standard procedure here!!)

Rooms are small but adequate. No room for lots of luggage but if you are prepared for that it is okay. Tiny shower and toilet areas ... Hot water plentiful until the person in the room next to you turns their on ... Then the pressure and heat seems to get halved! Beds hard but have a mattress topper on them too.

The BIG letdown is the service. Upon arrival - no one helped with bags ... Went and got a trolley myself then a tiny woman from reception came to try and pick them up ... Finally one of the bell boys decided to stop his conversation and help. Check in was confusing - girl struggled to explain things. There is a lift - but only for staff ... So you are okay if a bell boy happens to take your luggage. But we saw people having to carry their own heavy bags up three flights of stairs!

Within ten minutes of arrival, no power. Apparently there has been a break in the underwater supply line from the mainland and this is a common thing at the moment. However, no-one could explain this for us! We tried to get a third key cut once we found out we had two rooms with two door and two air conditioning units ... What a mess ... Three people in reception plus a back office staff member trying to make it work - a two minute job not completed for thirty. Housekeeping had not arrived by 4pm one afternoon and they were on our floor for hours before that ... They could not say when it would be done ... I ring the manager and finally got an answer - straight away - 20 minutes later they arrived! It took one person 15 minutes to do our two rooms ... They had been making noise in the corridors since 6am ... There are at most 50 rooms in this block to be made up and 6 people working on those as their allocation ... Do the Maths - no room should have to wait until 430pm!!

Pool Bar - no effort by staff to cine around for orders, no effort to come and collect empty glasses (seriously, one sat on a table next to me from 4pm one afternoon and was still there in the same spot at 6pm the next!)

Taxi desk ... The lady offers reasonable prices ... The three men who double as drivers, when they staff it, the prices are more expensive than the taxi stand straight out the front on the street. When questioned ... Response was a rude "go there then" ... And a prompt return to their conversations and mobile phones! Not sure if they are employed by the Ibis, but a pretty poor reflection on them when sitting in their foyer!

And the use of "no understand" when it suits is just frustrating ... The staff mostly seem to gave excellent English, but as soon as you ask for something which requires extra work or for them to provide a service they get paid for, the conveniently fail to understand the request ... But are happy to chuckle with their mates about it rather than get help from someone who does understand if they truly don't!

At some point a strong manager is needed to get this place going better. We came from four nights at another Accor property in Thailand, and the things happening here would not be tolerated there ... It is simply lazy, slack, unmotivated and unreliable staff issues - nothing more! Any workplace is a strong reflection on those who lead it ... And that being the case, the management here need to step up!

There is so much good about this place, but we will not come again or recommend it to others until there is a good swift boot given to many of the staff we encountered! There are so many good options in Samui, and so many beautiful Thai people who live the word "hospitality" in their actions ... We would rather spend time happy with them rather than frustrated with these ones! So until the staff change, pay the extra and stay elsewhere ... It is worth it at the moment!!

I just spent a night in Ibis Samui hotel a week ago. It's clean, simple and spacey for 2 persons. I wish I would have stayed there for more days as the quality stay is generally over my expectation with the price I paid. In short, stayed in 4-star hotel with 3-star price.

The receptionist staffs are helpful. I requested their assist to contact our pre-booked Lompayah ferry confirming the free pick-up service to Mae Nam pier the next morning. As expected, their arrangement was good and we got our free transfer to the pier on time.

For location wise, Ibis Samui isn't located at very strategic place but 2KM from Fisherman's village - the happening market. So, we had options to either take a tuk tuk with 50THB per person or taxi with 150THB per car to fisherman village for food.

In general, I'd still consider this hotel for my next trip to Samui with the stay quality and services. :)

Room Tip: Standard room and seaview room are the same price. Make sure you choose a seaview room and you'd...

My girlfried and I booked this hotel for a few days late June. We were pleasantly surprised at how clean and attractive it was - especially for the price we paid.

The room was nicely decorated and functional, although the balcony was very small with room for only one chair and table, so not much use if the two of us wanted to sit out. Nevertheless, the room, pool, and private beach areas were all very nice. The beach was particularly good as you could walk along it to visit restaurants from other resorts, or buy food sold by the friendly Thai people on the beach (recommend the fresh fruit!).

Outside the hotel there is a fairly quiet road with plenty of decent restaurants along it. Most weren't particularly cheap relative to the mainland, but still considerably cheaper than what you'd pay at home!

Overall, this hotel is a safe choice and more than satisfactory for the price.

First caveat and a lesson learned on our part: don't start out at a nice resort and move to a budget hotel! We started at the Imperial Samui Beach Resort, which was beautiful, and moved to the Ibis for the last couple of days of our stay in Koh Samui because we wanted to be near Fisherman's Village. Maybe if we had stayed at a cheap hotel from the beginning we would have really liked the Ibis, so this is all about perspective. Good points: it was cheap, walking distance to fisherman's village, and the pool was really fun. It had seats built into it, which made for good jumping-off points for our four-year-old, and for most of the day at least some of the pool was shaded. Another good thing, only tangentially associated with the hotel, were the people making and selling grilled chicken, fresh coconut juice, grilled corn, and other cheap delights on the beach just outside the hotel. Yum yum, definitely check that out! Bad points: our room was tiny (I did see larger rooms down the hall so they do exist) and the lights in the room were yellow, which was kind of weird and hard on the eyes. When the power was shut off for most of one of the days, they had a generator for lights only, not air conditioning. It wasn't a huge problem because we were out and about but if for some reason you were in your room, or if it happened at night, it would be uncomfortable. The breakfast in the morning was not worth 250 baht. It was a pretty mediocre selection and was quickly picked over, so we'd often have to sit and wait for new plates of food to replace the empty ones. The worst part was the beach. The beach at the Imperial was gorgeous, and we didn't realize that there would be such differences around the island. Maybe it was the time of year that we were at this beach (?) but the water had a brackish smell to it, and had green clumps of goo floating in it as well as transparent gobs of ---- ?? It looked like pieces of jellyfish, I really have no idea what it actually was but as soon as I realized that I had clumps of green gunk and globs of some jellylike substance down the front of my swimsuit, I got out of there and never went back. Yuck. And finally, the service was pretty slow - we waited a long time to be served in the bar and finally gave up and walked down the beach to another restaurant.

Dear Shannon B,

Thank you for leaving a review following your stay with us.

I would like to thank you as well for recognizing the good value of the hotel as well as the great pool and very good location close to the Fisherman's village.

In regards to your disappointment, please allow me to express my sincere apologies. The ibis brand is as you mention an economy brand, 3 stars, delivering a value for money experience.
Our rooms are kept small principally for these reasons, cheap and value for money. We indeed offer larger rooms which can fit up to 4 adults or a family with 2 children, which can be booked on our Accor or ibis websites at a very attractive extra charge.

In comparison to your other experience in Koh Samui in a 4 star hotel, the total bill of your stay in ibis must have been quite a money saver :)

Regarding the breakfast, please receive my apologies for your disappointment. The rate 250THB includes tax and service charge, which in the end comes up to a 6USD buffet breakfast. I am sorry if you felt the value was not appropriate. Please know that we are reviewing the menu as to speak and indeed looking to offer more variety.

Again Ms Shannon, thank you for your review and it is our hope to welcome you again in sunny Samui.

Sincerely yours,

Ivan Berthelot

The IBIS Samui was my first stay in Accor properties and it was one of the best hotels which we stayed during our trip of Thailand. We stayed for 2 nights and taken a family room with 2 double beds.Nice and clean rooms. Best part of the hotel is the pool and the beach.

For Indian nationals who want Indian type food there is small hotel opp to IBIS samui were you get good food.

We stayed from 26th Jul - 28th Jul 2012.
