We've been visiting KS for almost 30 years and have definitely seen the changes in the area. Formerly a backpacker's haven, it no longer is such, but still maintains a low key, cheaper alternative to Phuket and Pattaya.

We've always stayed clear of Chaweng and always chose Bophut, and in particular The Lodge as our temporary home while there. And we have not regretted it one bit.

The place was sold to a new owner last year, but thus far, all continue to be intact. The restaurant has a fantastic chef- Khun Noi- and we just could not resist eating there almost daily during our visit. The added plus was the eclectic music in the background- Diana Krall, Frank Sinatra, some bossa nova, and traditional Thai music, among them. And this, with seawaves whiling away .....

They may not have have a pool, but the Andaman Sea is right there at your feet..... swimming almost daily , morning and later afternoon, was heavenly, especially after spending time walking in the heat and sweating profusely from the humidity....
The room feels traditionally Thai and it fronts the seaview.... you hear it daily... such a privilege!

But, I must say, the secret to all of the Lodge is Khun Khoi- Manager Extraordinaire! She is warm, giving, very generous, and very very thoughtful. I cannot imagine the place without her.
I had the most unfortunate thing happen, after we left, when my iPad was stolen by a driver at Nathon Pier, where everyone catches the ferries run by Lomprayah (Ferry Company- the main company manning Nathon Pier and all catamarans in KS, Koh Phangan, and Kho Tao),to connect to Suratthani Airport . I elicited Khun Khoi's help and support and she continues to help even after we're no longer at the Lodge. Despite this horrible event (that ruined our vacation), it was Khun Khoi's warmth and assurances that helped me maintain my composure. (Note: There will be a specific review on Lomprayah in a separate review).

Despite this unfortunate event, we will be back at the Lodge... with more family members in tow.....
Thanking Khun Khoi for the warmth and hospitality... Thanking Khun Fon and Khun Noi for taking care of all our needs while there......

Two visits on consecutive Fridays (market nights) and on both occasions the meal was first class. The Spring Roll starter was made up of nine rolls! Our party of four all agreed that the food was well cooked, plentiful and very tasty. Our second visit was equally successful. Well done The Lodge.

I travelled with my father and two younger siblings in Thailand, we stayed in Bophut for two nights and love the fisherman village. They have an amazing night market every friday that we were lucky enough to visit. The whole area is wonderful, full of great restaurants and shops and the people are friendly and relaxed.
The only bad experience we had was with "The Lodge" hotel. We arrived there after booking in advance through the internet and because of the great recommendations we read here. When we arrived we got two rooms which were both dirty (windows were not cleaned, sticky stuff on the floor and on the table). One of the rooms had no hot water in the shower. The staff was completely helpless since both ppl in reception did not know a word in English (only two on the island). We tried talking to the owner and saw another room, but they were all sticky..
In the end we called the company we booked the rooms through and canceled.
I am only writing this to warn others that the image you get of the place from these reviews is misleading. The location is good, but there are many other hotels nearby and no reason to visit the lodge.
We ended up in "The Waterfront" hotel which was no doubt the best hotel I've seen in all six visits to Thailand (in our price range of around 2000BHT).

Room Tip: Very noisy, in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Better upstairs then on the street. Even better not at all.

We are so sorry that your visit was below your expectations. Your particular experience is highly unusual and of great disappointment to us. We have taken measures to help prevent such dissatisfaction in the future.

We have English speaking staff and staff numbers have been increased to ensure vigorous re-cleaning of rooms prior to check in.

As for the hustle and bustle on the street - there is not much we can do. In fact this tends to be one of our greatest selling points. The Hotel is located in the heart of Fisherman's village with the best restaurants and bars of the area just steps away. Naturally, in the 2 rooms at street level these sounds can more easily be heard. However, all our other rooms are on higher floors and away from the noise.

We do hope that you will come and stay with us again.

We ate at the lodge last night the food was delicious as was the view. Very good value and welcoming restaurant. The menu has a large selection of fresh Thai dishes to choose from and also offers happy hour on some.

A classic. 5 star service, lovely staff, clean and super comfortable rooms right on a great beach in the fishermans village - for 30 quid a night. We were on our first wedding anniversary and had moved here from other 4 star hotels but loved this one so much. This is exactly the kind of place that I always hanker after when I travel, especially in Asia. There is such great value to be had and in a small hotel like this the service is always much more personal.

Very quiet in town as low season but definitely go for the walking street market on a Friday. Loss of locals go to hang out, the street food is fantastic and cheap as are the top notch mojitos which you can buy along the way. If you're lucky you will catch the chubby kid beat boxing at the far end, he's absolutely brilliant! We had to tear ourselves away from this sweet spot to go to Koh Tao and I guess that's saying something.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 8 and chose it as it opens right out onto the beach being on the ground floor. We were worried about noise from the pedestrianised st and cafe but it was so quiet. And handy for Friday night market as we could just pop back! We didn't need more space being just a couple and thought being able to step right onto the beach was great.
