Description: Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins. It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river. Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park. It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment. Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "

Absolutely beautiful in every way! The menu is innovative and delicious - I am still thinking about the eucalyptus soup! Brilliant setting, right on the river. Staff are exceptionally well trained and master the art of efficiency and neatness without creating too formal an environment. The chef visited each of the tables to introduce himself and talk about his food which was a really nice touch. Definitely recommend for a special family meal and, equally, for a romantic evening out as a couple. 5 stars and more, looking for an excuse to return to the douro valley and visit DOC again!

DOC was the splurge restaurant of our recent trip to Portugal. We opted for the tasting menu paired with wines so we knew that we would pay top dollar. But the food and wine made it worthwhile as did the excellent service. Because it was raining, we could not sit out on the patio to have our meal which was disappointing. The location and views make it the number one choice in the Pinhao area. It also helped that it was one of the only places open on a Sunday evening.

We had lunch here while doing tour in Douro Valley. The food was superb. The octopus carpaccio was incredible. The olive oil poached fish with risotto was impeccable. The views of the river and surrounding hills are spectacular. Hard to imagine such a good restaurant in such an odd out of the way location.

This has to be one of Portugal's best restaurants. There is no doubt.
The setting is magnificent,as it built out over the river and has a stunning view of the vineyards on the other side.
The staff are charming and give knowledgeable advice on the wine selection. The restaurant's own label is an excellent choice.
The food is delicious and perfectly presented by a very well trained team. If you are in PortoI hear that Rui Paula also has a restaurant there as well as a new one in Recife, Brasil.
We have eaten at DOC many times and shall continue to do so in the future.
You might like to do as we did the last time we visited and arrive by small boat from Pinão

I have read several reviews of DOC, nearly all of them good, but had never had the chance to go there. This time we were in the area and decided to have a go. The experience was worth every cent (and the restaurant is not cheap at all). The setting is breathtaking, with the landscape of the Douro region. When we arrived, we were greeted by the chef, Rui Paula, and shown to our table. The service was overall excellent, although the coffee took longer than desirable. The staff was very nice, and the Maître d'ho definitely knew how to apologise for the big group that was joyfully having their coffee in the terrace. The food was extraordinary. Everything was perfectly cooked and attention was paid to every single detail. The restaurant is rather expensive, but definitely worth it.
