Owner description: We are a sustainable organic coffee farm. We have been using sustainably organic practices for over fourteen years. Today we are happy to consider ourselves environmentalists first, and coffee farmers second.

Five stars does not cover it. I have been living in Costa Rica for six years and we are always looking for interesting destinations for our frequent visitors. This coffee tour is the best thing we have found. This is not a "touristy" destination. This small, family owned/operated coffee farm utilizes cutting-edge eco-friendly production methods in a low-tech manner. They are a generation beyond organic farming. The family is awesome: Gerardo (remember Juan Valdez? This is the real guy!), Sole, Gabriel and Yvette are the nicest, most welcoming people you can imagine. Gabriel gives a 2 hour tour of the farm explaining and demonstrating their "balance-of-nature" production methods combined with super eco-friendly processing. The result? Fantastic coffee which you don't have to feel guilty about drinking. Big mistake if you miss this tour!

I have lived here in Costa Rica for 4 Years. I have tried many coffees here and Know good or great coffees. This coffee has a pure taste and I know it's because of the way they grow and the climate. Organic...
The people are great and love what they do.......

My wife and I moved to Costa Rica after teaching in Washington, DC. Somehow, we came upon this farm, and it's one of the best things that's happened to us. Even though we spend 9 months out of the year in Chicago, we still return to Atenas during the winter, and El Toledo is one of the main reasons we do.

I would almost identify this family as ecologists first, and coffee growers second. Their passion for what they do is contagious, and their coffee is second to none. For more on the farm, please see this article I wrote for AOL on the family's journey to organic farming.
