Description: Cretan cuisine has a long standing tradition dating back centuries ago and is directly connected to the production of high quality agricultural and cattle farming products. Savor the variety, delicacy and high quality of the guaranteed cuisine of Kastro! We always use extra virgin olive oil, as required by the famous Cretan diet. Our restaurant has been awarded with the label "cretan cuisine" by the Agronutritional Cooperation of the Region of Crete. It therefore, has all the prerequisites that will definitely initiate you to the delicious world of savory experiences, which will absolutely impress you. "Perfect Cretan food in a friendly environment in an idyllic verandah" and "impeccable service by jovial and polite people", are characteristic comments shared in the internet by our visitors. Kastro Restaurant is a first class choice for people relishing a daily excursion and wish to savor high quality traditional cuisine.

In mid-October, shortly before close of business for the season, we were very well received. Individual recommendations for our menu were made by the host and although being the only guests that night, nothing came short. Certainly aimed at tourists in the first place this taverna offers above average food and drink; even their open wine (red, sometimes problematic on Crete) was excellent.

Went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Made suggestions of what we might like on the menu. Kids well catered for. All food eaten.

Pleasant atmosphere and service but the food left a lot to be desired. It seems more like a place that tries to cater to tourists rather than offering a truly local experience. Smaller travernas with local patrons are a much better bet. All depends on what grabs your fancy.

visited in September and saved this for our anniversary meal. However it was very busy and there weren't enough staff to serve all the tables, which meant you either waited ages between courses or, as in our case, the main course came out while we were still having our soup! the food was OK but not the best in Panormos.

Easily the best restaurant in Panormo, The friendly and gracious host makes you feel welcome immediately, and the food was very good. Bread with 3 different spreads are offered when you sit down. Classic Greek cooking is on the menu - you need to use your imagination a bit as, like most tavernas and unlike many Western restaurants, the choices are listed but not described in the mouth-watering terms they deserve. A choice of very good local Cretan wines matches the food.
The ambience is delightful. The restaurant is not along the coast as some of its competitors are, but the leaf- and flower-covered patio feels isolated enough that you don't notice. (Roll-down shades provide protection in case of wind).
Clearly a family restaurant, the host's father sits at a nearby table and watches the action. The host's son is one of the servers, and a younger boy occasionally zips around the restaurant on his scooter.
The meal is completed with a complimentary bottle of raki, the Cretan brandy. Like most Greek restaurants, there is no push to get you out the door - they assume you're there for the night, so don't plan on rushing. .One caution: get there before about 9:30 - every night we were there, the tables were completely filled by about then.
Highly recommended for a great meal and an unforgettable evening in Crete.
