Total points: 7/10

General verdict:
All in all, as a booked package you get a good holiday and with luck, the deserved rest as well. Due to the mess-up at check-out, (potential credit card fraud possible) I will not return to this resort though.

Location: 6/10
I booked the Horizon Beach as a complete package, including the transfer from and to the airport. Though with an accent, the travel agent was there and we were transported to the hotel. The trip takes about 15 minutes
There is a public bus stop in front of the hotel. Prices are very moderate (2 to 3 euro’s). There seem to be more busses than written on the timetable. This is absolutely necessary as the line to Kos at times is filled completely. They only stop short from stacking people on the roof. A small mini-market is available across the road, as well as a car-rental. Both services are available on premise as well.
The hotel has a beach partition it owns which is clean.

On-Premise 7/10
As mentioned, there is a mini-market with sufficient product choice, a barber and a tourist shop. In the latter some German magazines can be bought and at times the odd one in another language. Since pretty much all articles have to be imported from either mainland Greece or even further the price for these articles is high.
There is a Gym available, as well as a billiards and pool table. I haven’t tested these, but visually they looked in good shape. Both these as well as the table-football can be used for a small price. The table tennis tables (2), are good and can be used free of charge. Equipment can be received at reception. There is a wlan, free of charge, signal quality however is at times gone, or fully overloaded

Rooms: 5/10

Rooms come in a 2 and a 1 room variation. We had a double room. To the pictures the hotel published, add another 10 or 15 years and you know what it looks like. It is absolutely still functional, but not new. Each room has a balcony, ours overlooking one of the pools. What I liked is the 15 meters between our balcony and the pool itself, meaning you could have some privacy on your balcony. I’m also rewarding a lot of points for the air-conditioning system. You can’t switch it on if all doors are not closed. The room also uses a card, attached to the key, which must be inserted in the wall slot if you want to use electricity. This should save the resort a lot of energy.
What I absolutely hated about the rooms though is the noise that can be heard from the neighbors. We were lucky to have 3. The baby next door could be heard when crying. The gentleman upstairs was slightly overweight, and when he moved through the room, we heard it. Another family had 2 boys running around. And so on. Some nights the guests returned at midnight, we would then wake up as well.

Service: 8/10

For honesty, I need to split this in reception and everybody else.
In general people are friendly, some even more than friendly. Sure, there are always some characters, but somehow the waiter that completely messed up our order on the first day never even came close to our table again. Instead we got a young guy, who was so great he even arranged specials for us. The lady who cleaned our apartment was smiling and friendly as well. Since my Greek is virtually non-existent we were limited in our communications, but she still managed to wish me “Gut Reise”., safe trip on the last day.
At reception however, when trying to check out a lot of the earned credits were lost. I inserted my credit card in the machine. I typed my pin code, it was accepted. This means the transaction is done, finished, needs no further approval, which it clearly states on the receipt. The woman behind the counter however insisted I sign the receipt for the hotel “for administrative procedures”. She could not explain this, which means she is either a junior, or simply ignorant.

Food
We had the full pension, so 3 meals a day.

Breakfast buffet: 9/10

Rich, very rich buffet, including several types of vegetables, fruit, pancakes, crepes, waffles, 6 types of marmalade, honey, chocolate, but also baked tomatoes, sausages, mushrooms, cooked eggs, scrambled eggs and so on, and so on. One minor thing is the bread station, where you can cut yourself your own slice of bread. At times there is a considerable queue with waiting times up to 5 minutes.

Lunch: 7/10

The afternoon can be spend in the “Taverna”, a small open-walled, but roofed, restaurant overlooking the sea. As mentioned before the waiter on the first day served me and my wife, missed out however on the dishes for the kids. These were then ordered and came at high speed, unfortunately also with undercooked meat. The two days it was raining/cloudy/windy, the location was sub-optimal, but with a sweatshirt still ok. The other waiter we had was brilliant. The food itself was of varying levels. The cooked mussels were great, the swine steak was either overcooked or undercooked. It’s still worth as there is a very respectable choice of Greek as well as Italian dishes

Diner 8/10

Also a rich buffet. I would imagine that for every kind of diet something is there to eat. There is a well filled salad bar, cold meat and cheese, fries, cooked carrots (sweetened for the little kiddies), some special (sometimes fish, sometimes, meat, sometimes something else) then spaghetti with 2 different sauces, then 6 or 7 different dishes with meat or fish.
There is also a good selection of deserts most Greek-style (extremely sweet) bus also some little pearls. There is a self-service ice-cream area, great for the kids. It is of course not the highest quality of ice, but acceptable (if you really concentrate, you can taste that, yes indeed, it is strawberry ice-cream).
One point of worry was the corn. It smelled bad on the second day of our visit. The smell did not improve over the course of the following 10 days.

Children Club, Activity program 7/10

On site there is a children club. I assume this is staffed with European youngsters which will be exchanged next year, similarly to the staff. This year we were lucky to find 1 brilliant Italian lady who really did a perfect job with the kids. They loved it there. There were some other nationalities as well, also doing a great job. One lady I had to comment my dissatisfaction to for turning on the TV to entertain the kids. If it is a planned cinema event, no problem. If it is because you as animation team member are too preoccupied to keep the kids busy, big problem.

Room tip: top floor and if possible with as few neigbours as possible. As far away from animation as possible. You can still hear the loud music on 1 or 2 nights a week

We like Kos, small island surrounded with blue water, and a cosy nice busy town.
In the search of an hotel at the sea, close to a kite club we found Horizon Beach Resort.
The hotel is a 10 min. drive from the airport, nice! We had very friendly female staff. Although we made reservation in time, our room wasn't available for the first night. They made some effort in compensations and gave us rooms at the beachfront close to the kite club. This is a key point for me. The resort is perfectly mentained. I nerver saw cleaner gangway's and paintwork , not even in 5* hotels. The rooms were very clean, not stained wals. It looked that the entire hotel was painted recently. Even the gardeners are artist. Impeccable nice cut trees, and lawn.
Food: extensive choise of food, nice buffet, morning and evening. Very fine quality. and enough for everyone. So take your time and don't rush at start time, because it can be crowdy. So go late, and you can sit at the terras and enjoy a nice sunset. Be aware of the mosquito's. and the dress code for dinner!
The staff arranged also big screan for football in the bar for the WS2014.
For the kiters: There is a kite club 100m to the left of the beach. Friendly guy's, monitors, recue, storage etc. but unfortunately there was almost no wind. Nice weather but no wind.
Kids: nice and quite place, pools, and for the older : a big waterpark at 10min walk from the hotel.
Would i go back? Yes ! abolutely.

Room tip: mail staff in time and explain the needs.

For a family holiday the hotel is perfect, but only average. For something upscale requirements only enough! For example, no kettle in the room, the must be 20 Euro at the front desk in/out privileges, then one must seek cups, sugar, etc. The only restaurant for lunch lies directly at the beach nice but 7 days the same dishes a little bland. Walk the beach to the tam tam restaurant, great view, good food we have the unfortunately only on the penultimate day discovered. Pool room are annoying the run on the pool chairs are already at 6 o'clock in the morning. Although the hotel not seems crowded (it was full) were at the pool after 8 o'clock mornings Until late in the afternoon sun loungers. Although we frontbencher were lay our family room in the rathskeller nice cool but on the balcony sat with the grass on an equal footing, so the book 1 or 2 floor request. Our junior found the kids club great very much sport and unfaltering for children. We also found the island Cos beautiful and not tourists we will be back, but not more to this hotel.

They didn't have any double beds. The pool was poor. The room was very minimal. We took the "all included" and it included just beer and win and the food was BAD!!! We didn't eat there at all!!! Not a good hotel for couples!!

Typical modern Beachhotel, with a very friendly Service Staff there. As our Friends have been there already last Year, we followed their Advice and went also there. Friendly Check In and they also speak good english there.
The very good thing there was the Breakfast Choices and especially the good Coffee. Friendly Staff there too. Also we have to say, that there was a nice and friendly Atmosphere and we could relax good!
