“Very good hotel - lack of surroundings”
Reviewed September 21, 2011

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Gaia in June for 10 days when it was pretty quiet. The food was varied day in day out and the fresh pasta cooked daily was high quality.

Local drinks are all inclusive but any branded drinks and coffee's etc are charged. The bartenders are very friendly and more than willing to take you to the local beach party every friday which is a lot of fun for all ages but specifically the young.

Rooms are very modern and clean, bathrooms are really nice too.

My only negative was that the hotel was pretty much in the middle of nowhere with no surroundings other than the beach. It is however only a 30 minute bus ride to Kos Town (you have to fight to get on bus) mainly as non-English visitors don't believe in queuing up.

Entertainment in hotel is good for Italian but forget it if your English, during our stay we were the only English there so didn't expect any entertainment.

all in all very nice hotel, good food, friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere.

We (my family and I) stayed there last August for the second time.
It's a very solid hotel that lives up to it's 4.5* rating. You have to be aware of the fact that hotels in Greece are not comparable to hotels in for example switzerland especially in the service area. So if a hotel has a 5* rating it's probably a 4 or even 3.5* in switzerland.
I would recommend this hotel to couples or families who want to relax and just have a quite vacation.
here are some point i'd like to share:
good:
-spacious rooms with a big balcony or terrace
-3 nice pools
-main pool great with whirlpool
-no animation

negativ:
-not directly on the beach
-small buffet (but tastes good)
-so called jacuzzi bath (not usable)

We stayed here August 2010. Booked it as a 5 * holiday only to expect 4 * as is Greece. First impressions was nice. Pool area was impressive and had lots of sunbeds, and plenty of swimming space. Room was ok. We had a 1 bedroom apartment which had a permanent double bed in living area so no seating. This was ok as we spent all our time outside and as we paid for all inclusive there was no need for kitchen facilities. The bathroom however was horrible. Drain smell, and if you used the jacuzzi bath the water was brown! Shower leaked as well so towels all over the floor. We did report it but nothing was done so we got on with it in the end.
The staff were fairly rude. The pool bar girl i think hated kids! She didn't really acknowledge them until she had to or an adult was with them. Most all spoke German but not English.
The all inclusive was not so good. Only beer and wine served and flat coke or lemonade. No spirits at all. I ended up buying a bottle of vodka from the supermarket as was sick of drinking the warm wine. The food was very repetitive. Only show cooking once a week. It was replenished fairly quickly, but i advise to eat very early to get the best choice. During the day the "snacks" were warm cake!
There was no evening entertainment except once there was a disco. Most of the time we sat in the pool bar and chatted to people. The kids howvever did make friends so at least they were entertained.
Not much in the area and the beach is a good 10 minute walk, and there are better beaches. I would reccomend car hire. Kos is a small island so can get about. Kos Town is very pretty.
Overall, the kids had a great holiday and it was a great place just to chill and relax. It is not too noisy and the pools were lovely, but they were not cleaned too often, and some kids fell ill with ear infections.
I think 2 weeks was too long here as it got a bit boring from time to time, but i would go back to Kos but to a different hotel.

My boyfriend and I spent 9 nights at the Gaia Palace Hotel in Kos at the end of June. We had an amazing time. The hotel is new and the quality of the place is outstanding for the price you pay. All of the rooms have jazucci baths, emormous king size beds & a view of a pool. The 3 pools are lovely. There are 2 smallish quieter pools and then the main pool which has a great design. There is a jazucci within the main pool area which is a lovely addition. On top of all of this there is an indoor pool which was the same quality as a good UK spa. It almost seemed a waste to have it there as we did not use it because the weather was so good but if you had a rainy day it would be great to have it there. The gym was also of a very high standard...spinning bikes, treadmill, cross trainer & some really good quality weights. The cleanliness of the whole hotel was spotless. The cleaners were around for many hours around the hotel grounds, as was the gardener. The food was of a really high quality for an all inclusive buffet. Although there was only the one restaurant, this really did not matter as the food changed daily. We throughly enjoyed every meal we had there and did not get bored or tired of any of it. The restaurant staff were always on hand to clear your plates away, very attentive. A few points which could have been improved..... the all inclusive drinks only include beer, wine, ouzo and brandy. Oh and coffee. So no tea (can only have tea with breakfast) and no locally produced spirits. You could of course pay for these and the bars did do cocktails with the local spirits but at an extra cost. This seemed a shame to us. According to the bar man last year, all drinks were included but this year that has been changed. Meal times were 0730 - 0930 for breakfast. We felt that on holiday it would have been nice to have breakfast til 1000. Dinner also finished at 2030, which was ok for us but we were surprised as it seemed a little early. The hotel is a bus ride away from Mastachari. The times of the buses are at reception and it is easy enough. We walked in one day and it took 1.5 hours! Or a taxi was about 8 euros. Either way, you are not walking distance from the village. We found the hotel so comfortable however that this did not worry us as we went for a relaxing pool break. We did hire a car for a couple of days which was great. If you do this I would strongly advise you to use a company in Mastachari village. The prices are half that of what you would pay at the hotel and they pick you up and drop you back at your hotel with no hassle. All in all I would strongly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing break with good food and lots of sunshine!
