“Greatness”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

There are somethings you have to try, Ballad of Bill and Salome is one of them, if you are on Samos. The food is great, the restaurant in general is nice and clean, the people are friendly and have a great sence of humour. Bare in mind, because the food is cooked from fresh ingredients, the menu in service, varies daily. So if you want to eat something that is not on the menu today, don't worry, it probably will be tomorrow. But also you must be early if you want some of the most desired dishes, as they go very fast and then you'll have to try something else. Which most probably will be great also. There are great veggie dishes, chicken on the spit is fantastic, kleftiko and beef in cognac are to die for but also the fish dishes are excellent as are the meatballs! Do try feta in the oven, it is the best I've ever had!
The atmosphere is relaxed and nice. No one will hastle you unless you want to.

“first and last tome!”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

The place looks nice, the people are friendly, but it ends there! They didn't have not even half of the dishes we wanted,(so why is it on the menu?)after a lot of time of deliberating what we can order and what not, we gave the order, and then we waited what seems for forever and when the food eventualy came, it was already cold! what can i say....i'm very sorry, because the people do look very nice, but....

“Great food, lovely people”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

This is an exceptional place to eat in Votsalakia, and we are told, on the whole island of Samos.
Salome cooks fresh seasonal food so the menu can be different every night - but the standard is exceptionally high whatever is on offer. Meanwhile Bill zooms around like a wonderfully chatty bluebottle making sure that everyone is happy and well served. Bill is a fount of local food and drink knowledge and is now producing his own wine,
Other members of the family are also part of the team so a friendly atmosphere pervades.
However, it can be very popular (quite right too) so you may need to be pateint if you have snaffled one of the last remaining tables - worth the wait though!

“Back again and again”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Back again to Samos this year twice, and believe that we only ate in one or two different places the whole time we were there (three weeks in June and one week in September). Bill and Salome make you feel very welcome, the food is freshly cooked by Salome, the wine made by Bill's cousin and drunk in fair quantities by us. It's a lovely, family run restaurant and somewhere we would recommend to anyone.

“Best food on the island”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We stumbled across this taverna on our hunt for a decent vegetarian meal and we weren't disappointed, the food was so good we arranged to come back a couple of days later for the aubergine moussaka which Salome agreed in advance to cook for us. My partner had a beef in cognac dish which he was very impressed with, ordered on the advice of Bill. Bill is a great host and it is very much worth listening to what he recommends - as another reviewer stated the whole menu isn't available at any one time but we saw this as a sure sign that what we were eating was locally sourced, fresh & seasonal. We felt there was still enough variety in what was available to be able to select a suitable dish, complemented by the home made wine. The Ballad of Bill & Salome was the culinary highlight of our wonderful week in Samos and we would recommend it without hesitation.
