Booked this break through Secret Escapes, we were looking for a week of relaxation and we found it. The hotel is a very relaxed place , this is down to the staff and their excellent service to guests,
Always a smile and always willing to help.
Yes it is some way out of Bali but with the shuttle bus it did not feel so remote and on the night we went into Bali we just called the hotel and the bus came to pick us up , great service.

The hotel was full during our week but it never felt that way , plenty of sun beds during the day and always a table for dinner. The food was good, not spectacular but a good quality and from the grill it was really good and always plenty available. Disappointing but easily rectified is the tendency to water down the fresh orange at breakfast and soup at dinner.

Drinks are priced as you would expect in any hotel , more expensive than the resort but not extortionate, a beer was €4.50 for 500ml or € 3.50 during happy hour, cocktails were €7 and €4.50 during happy hour which ran from 17.00 to 18.30 . The bar in the evening was run by Manos , great guy and very enthusiastic .wine with dinner was from €18 bottle.

In the rooms there are no tea making facilities but if you want to take your own tea / coffee they will supply a kettle and cups on request.

Guests were mostly couples, mixed ages and nationalities, mostly UK , German and French
and particularly nice was that there was not the usual reservation of sun beds before dawn,
Long may that continue. We met some really nice people both guests and the guys that work there.

For sure it is not 5 stars as a 5 star hotel in London , but it is certainly a very nice, relaxing resort hotel , with a few tweaks the rooms could be a bit more colourful ( blues and greens) with a bit more of a Greek feel but this is down to preferences.

In conclusion , a nice place to stay with really nice staff ,

Having read some of the reviews on here we were a bit apprehensive. HOWEVER it was absolutely great. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, our room was so nice, and the balcony got the sun in the evening which was really nice. We had a room overlooking the pool with the mountains in the background. It was a nice set up, and always beautifully clean as well. Our only complaint about the room would be two single beds rather than a double, but that is just splitting hairs. It was really nice.

We went half board. Breakfast could be a bit repetitive but actually, it was really good. Loads of fruit which was really lovely, and also omelettes cooked to order. At dinner everything was delicious and we really enjoyed the food. I am also a coeliac and the chef and staff couldn't have been more helpful. Every night the chef came round the buffet with me and told me everything I could eat. The guys working in the restaurant were great as well, and always good fun. I saw a review here saying the staff were unfriendly and our experience couldn't have been any more different.

The hotel facilities were good too. Three pools, which were cleaned daily and were so nice. Yes they aren't heated but that's perfect on a hot day and it was great. The pool bar had entertainment every night which was mostly very good. We had a lot of fun with the greek dancing and the guitarists. Our only comment would be that during the day there were several members of staff working at once. In the evenings (when it was busiest) there was only one bar man, Manos. He was a great character and we felt it would have been better if he had had help behind the bar so he could spend more time interacting with the guests as he is a great asset to the hotel.

The hotel is aout 45 minutes walk into Bali. We personally didn't walk it, but several of the couples did and they said it was fine to walk. We used the hotel mini-bus and the service was absolutely fine. Yes occassionally they couldn't fit us all in, but they just did two trips and there was absolutely no issue. The beach that is free to use for the hotel is really nice, although we did prefer to walk round to Evita beach. Some lovely places to eat in the town as well (Valentino Tavern on the walk down to the port has lovely Greek food) and also the Taverna at Evita Beach is awesome.

It is quite a quiet, laid-back holiday if you just stay at the hotel and go to Bali, but it was lovely and we had a great time. Would definitly recommend the Catamaran cruises that go from Bali port. We did the Sunset Cruise and it was the highlight of the holiday. Other people did scuba diving and enjoyed it.

I would definitely recommend Filion Suites and we would go back in a heartbeat!

I would

My partner and I stayed a week at the Filion. It’s a great hotel with a lot going for it, quality accommodation and caring, hardworking staff. There have been a few inaccurate reviews posted, so this aims to correct those.
We arrived at 2am, not only did the receptionist do his best to make us feel at home providing us with a cool glass of water as we arrived, he took us down to the restaurant and gave us a meal of chicken salad and pasta!
There are 4 swimming pools, 3 outside and 1 inside. They are not heated, but that didn’t stop guests using them daily. There are lots of sun loungers so there is never a problem lounging by the pool. During our stay, there was entertainment on 3 of the evenings, live music on 2 and fire eating, walking on glass and laying on a bed of nails, on the other one, all a bit of fun and somewhat enjoyable.
It is a little secluded but this really is not a problem, there is an hourly shuttle to the beach and back again, and if you miss it then he will come back for you. Its free of charge and takes no time at all, and really does make this hotel what it is; outstanding value for money.
Beaches: There are 4 bays, all with plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. If you get off at the last one there are free sun loungers/parasols.
Restaurant: We have travelled to a lot of countries around the world and in our opinion even the fussiest eater would be happy with the selection on offer at the Filion. During our week, there was roast beef, roast lamb, really tasty chicken kebabs, and fresh fish including king prawns. The salad selection was amazing as was the wonderful vegetables on offer. There was always staples on offer pasta, pizza and chips for those less adventurous. Breakfast was outstanding, fresh omelettes made in front of you and crepes or pastries for those with a sweet tooth. Full English is on offer as well, and was quite good.
We had a suite with a huge balcony, there is a lounge, king size bed with flat screen tv in both the lounge and the bedroom. Great bathroom facilities, always hot water available and fresh towels every single day. The room was kept spotless.. There are tea & coffee making facilities in the room, just bring your own coffee and creamer if you like an early morning cuppa. There is a full sized fridge too.
The beach towels are collected from the spa and they are free of charge: you pay a deposit returned at the end of your stay, just ask at reception and they will return it.
If you have a late flight, there are excellent facilities at the hotel to shower and dry your hair and change before you catch your flight home.
Lastly, the bar, maybe the drinks are a little pricey but don’t let that spoil what is a wonderful relaxing holiday in a fantastic country. Manos the barman always has a smile on his face and a bit of banter to while away the evening.
Big shout out to the Manager, a great guy who dropped us off down at the beach one day and also Carina on reception. If you need any information on trips or the beach facilities ask at reception, they are very happy to help.

Room Tip: Suites are just perfect

Hotel is in beautiful natural area (only with mountain view, no see view), but too far from the town and beach (narrow road with stones, holes aprox. 3km from Bali).
There is necessary to rent a car.
We set this hotel because of good price and some recommendations but we were disappointed.

Reality was, that hotel is not worthy 5 stars, just average 3.
Services were fine, we enjoined the stay, but there was many other problems we didnt like, so we want to share with you.

Facility, hotel and services is not baby and family friendly -
* area dangerous for kids (steep hill, stairs)
* cold water without heating in pools
* missing baby corner in restaurant and no babysitting assistance

Sleeping and room was fine in good condition and we enjoyed it.

Food was average with good bread, vegetables and daily offer of regional food and meat.
We had halfboard but during the dinner we had to pay for still water 3 Euro, beer 4,50, wine 20 EUR.

Pool bar with expensive drinks , every evening was almost empty even there was parking lot arround hotel full of cars (guests prefer to stay in their rooms).

Good wifi internet but EXTREMELY expensive ( 5 EUR/ 90 minutes), absolutely not worthy normal hotel standard of 3 stars.... every restaurant here have free wifi...

So our sumarisation is - maybe good value for money, but hotel is not good choice for people with small kids.

Me and my wife booked this through a secret escapes deal. Everything was perfect. Hotel was clean and tidy. The staff were ready to go the extra mile for the customer every time.

Our room had a great view overlooking the valley an Bali in the distance. We were also given a bottle of wine which was a nice touch. The room was very clean and tidy with great decor.

The buffet style restaurant again was immaculate and the stuff were again willing to provide assistance wherever needed.

The hotel was quiet and a great place to unwind an relax. The pool areas were tidy and the spa was also great. We booked a massage and were very impressed with the quality of the massage and professionalism of the staff.

We made various trips into Bali via the free minibus from the hotel. We missed the minibus on one of the days and were kindly offered a lift by the manager Mike back up to the complex, he even stopped to buy us traditional sweets!

All in all we had a brilliant week in a quality hotel, we will definitely be returning next year. Big thank you to all the staff at filion for making our stay very special. Finally a big shout out to Manos the resident barman at the Lithos bar for providing us with great drinks and many fun evenings!

Excellent value for money for a week's half-board in the sun early in the year. A beautiful complex set on the side of a mountain with superb views. As others have reported, staff cannot do enough to ensure a happy stay for their guests. One small example; we had an annoying problem with a noisy electric fuse one night. We alerted reception staff somewhere about 10.30/11.00pm. After resident staff had examined the problem and decided it was beyond their competence, the hotel's local electrician was summoned. He had to drive 30 kms, arrived just after midnight and the problem was fixed in about ten minutes.
We didn't hire a car, because internal roads are narrow and Crete as a fairly mountainous area has lots of roads which twist and turn with alarming frequency! We took a day's bus tour, organised through reception desk at Filion. At about £35 pp (this figure includes my calculations for entrance fees and a meal) the trip lasted the whole day, about ten hours, and with excellent English speaking guide provided an extremely interesting day. My suggestion for a trip to Filion would be to stay for about 10-14 days, mixing some relaxing days using the free and regular hotel shuttle bus down into village of Bali and then booking some 3 or 4 days bus tours in between or hire a car.

After looking forward to this break away, this hotel was sadly very lacking. As others have mentioned, there is a definite divide of good and bad. In short the hotel appears to struggling to financially stay afloat and the manager is desperate to claw back money where possible. The price is low for a reason compared to other 5 star hotels.

The Good:
The location is lovely, great views of Bali and the staff are really lovely and friendly. There is a shuttle bus that runs back and forth into Bali up until 17.30. There is a lovely beach where the sunbeds are free to use. The pool area and restaurant are always clean and the sun come over to the balconies at around 16.00 so you can sit in the sun from your room.

The Bad:
Towels are charged for, Wifi is charged at 5 Euros for about an hour and drink prices are very high. For the cost of a bottle of wine at Filion, we had two great meals out in Bali (which was hot!) with wine. The food is always tepid and very similar each night. Don't get me started on packet mousse and jelly covered sponge every night! Food is always recycled and we once found the previous night's stale chips turned into omelette the next morning. The sauces to add to the congealing tepid spaghetti were very thin. Excursions are astronomical and does not include entry to the attraction (usually 30 -40 Euros per person). Rent a car - it is much cheaper and you see so much in the comfort of your own little space.

The Awful:
The spa pool is freezing and not heated, they also charge for use of the sauna, jacuzzi and steam room (for around 30 Euros for each room for each person!). If like us you look forward to using the spa - it's a real let down. The only free part is the cold pool. When we were there we saw one person in the spa all week, and no-one used the pool.

I cannot for the life of me understand how people have said that the spa was relaxing, unless they paid a fortune on treatments or use of the sauna etc. The jacuzzi is tucked away in a private room and has to be booked as part of a treatment, when they fill it with water. The rest of the time it lays empty.

Our room always had the beds made and the floor wiped over, but the bathroom was never cleaned and the sink remained untouched all week.

All in all, not a 5 star hotel and not one to go back to. The manager should really stop strutting around the hotel (you cannot miss him), bawling at his staff. Not good when sat out on the balcony, hearing him yelling at some poor woman in Greek.

Personally I would cut down the menu to 4-5 really good dishes that can be kept hot, using better quality ingredients than trying to accommodate numerous ones with poor ingredients. Don't charge for towels and heat the pool. We would have used the spa most days if the pool was warm.

At the end of it all you do get what you pay for and the price really should have alerted us. The web images are definitely taken sympathetically. If you don't mind 3 star and don't expect too much, then it's good for the cost.
