We have just come back from Makis Studios. Ok the beds not most comfortable for me as very firm. Yes agree pillows are not to every ones comfort. I agree with other reviews that shower room small. Yes there is rubble from neighbour and yes it is on a main road. If I had to find fault with Makis Studios then I would struggle. The pool area is one of the cleanest I have seen. The children who were with other families were loving it. Plenty of sun beds. Friendly and lovely family who could not do enough for you. Lets be realistic is £2.70 a pint over priced?. Is £2.20 expensive for full English? I don't think so but 1e for slice of toast is. Thank you Makis and your lovely family for lovely holiday.

We arrived 23 June 2013 and were immediately made welcome by Nellie who showed us to our room and invited us to the bar for a complimentary drink. The rooms are basic, but ours were kept clean with towels changed every 2 days and bins emptied. Kitchenette is not ideal for cooking family meals (I'm on holiday, I'm not here to cook). The shower/toilet is a bit of a nightmare but you get used to it and if I can shower myself and a 3 year old at the same, it can't be that bad.
We spent most days around the pool area soaking up the sun. Met some lovely people (Hello Andy & Jo, Andy, Sue & Andrew).
My 13 year old son was bored as there isn't a lot of things to do if your on a budget. We found a bar with games and pool in which we visited most evenings. We also ate most nights at the Lava Grill, excellent food and good prices.
Makis, Vasso, Atkis and Nellie are all wonderful people and nothing is a problem for them.
We will recommend these apartments to family and friends.

Room Tip: Room 6 is two bedroom at the rear of the building - no noise and in the shade.

This review is for Vasso Studios, which are owned and run by the same family as Makis Apartments.

We spent the first week of September 2012 at Vasso studios. Situated a 3 minute walk down a quiet side street off the main Moraitika road (and a 10 minute walk from Makis Apartments), Vasso Studios are your typical Greek self catering accommodation: white walls, tiled floors, simple furniture, a small and basic kitchenette area and a bathroom with shower, basin and toilet.

We arrived at 3am so no one was around to direct us to our apartment which wasn't a problem as our names and allocated studio were written on a board by the main entrance and the key was in the door. Incidentally, once we had seen the holiday online I emailed Makis Apartments direct and asked if they could give us a first floor room which wasn't a problem and ensured we got what we wanted as at the time of booking choosing a specific room choice was not an option.

The studio was clean and tidy. Bedding and towels were changed twice during our week long stay. The bedroom area contained two single beds (clean and comfy enough although the pillows were a bit lumpy), a bedside cabinet and a dressing table with large mirror. There was a wardrobe which contained a couple of additional drawers and a couple of hangers (we bought some more cheaply from one of the local supermarkets). The kitchen consisted of a small 2 ring hob next to a sink with a fridge below. Cupboards above and below contained a few plastic plates and bowls, a couple of mugs and drinking glasses, a kettle, a couple of pots and pans and some assorted cutlery: perfectly adequate for breakfast/snacks but lacking if you plan to cook evening meals. The bathroom was small and functional with a simple raised shower tray in the corner and a drain away in the centre of the room which in effect turned the whole bathroom in to a wet room.

We stayed in apartment 8 on the first floor (the right hand corner as you look at the front of the building). Being a corner studio it benefited from a dual aspect balcony, complete with two chairs and a table. The balcony of the corner studios are set back slightly from your neighbour so you have some privacy when sitting out and don't feel pressured to be 'sociable'!

Aircon was available for 5 Euros a day but although the daytime temperature for the week we were there was always mid 30s the nights were much more pleasant and we didn't feel the need for aircon or even a fan.

One thing to note: there is a wall of bushes opposite the front of Vasso studios and every day at 6am then later at 6pm hundreds of sparrows would congregate. The noise they produced was immense which lasted for an hour or so. We got used to the sound but noticed people in other nearby apartments getting quite irate!

A bit about Moraitika itself: Moraitika beach (sand and shingle shelving gently in to the sea) is a 15 minute stroll from Vasso not the 400m stated (even if you take the off road short cut). Pairs of loungers/umbrellas are available for hire at 6 Euros a day. There are the usual small restaurant/snack bars toward the back of the beach and a couple of supermarket/tourist shops. Messonghi beach is a 10 minute walk further south which is not as busy as Moraitika and worth the short walk if you want a bit more peace and quiet.

The majority of shops, restaurants and supermarkets are situated along Moraitika's main high street and there are a number of car/moped hire places and a couple of chemists down towards the main roundabout area where you'll also find two ATMs. Buses to other resorts and Corfu Town also depart from this roundabout. We took the bus over to St. George on the west side of Corfu for the day: air-con coach left at approx. 9.30am, took around 40 minutes and cost 1.6 Euros pp each way.

If eating out, we'd recommend the Mandelina Taverna (search Tripadvisor for reviews): turn right out of Vasso's side street on to the main high street: you'll find Mandelina approx 500 yards up on the right hand side. It may not be full (none of the restaurants were during our stay) but the owner and his son are friendly, the food is great (try the Beef Pastitsatha) and the prices very reasonable.

To summarise: we were more than happy with our stay at Vasso studios: just remember that it is basic accommodation but don't let that put you off!

Where do I start? Don't be fooled from the pictures of the outside, looks very nice but you are on a very main road!!! this road leads to Kavos so a lot of very noisy traffic! The rooms which they don't show in the pics, are depressing!!!! If your lucky enough to get a room on the right side of the building are passable, if your unlucky and get the left your overlooking rubble and bins!!! The shower room is a joke, its the size of a single wet room with the toilet and wash basin thrown in. If your larger than a stick insect you would have to leave the door open, + dont forget to throw the toilet rolls out every time cos they would get wet!!!!!! They also charge 1 euro if you want to use the poole table each time. We didn't use the bar very often due to being very overpriced, compared to other tavernas in a much nicer setting. Take your own pillows, if you don't want a headache in the mornings cos they are rock hard!!! The family are lovely if your spending money in their bar, and on their food. But if you want to do your own thing not so friendly!!! You get what you pay for, and beleive me I will be paying more next time I come to Corfu!!!!

We have just returned from a two week stay in the Makis apartments and we really can't fault it! By far the best part of the holiday was the hospitality of Makis and his family. They are lovely people who treat their guests like extended members of their family - hugs and kisses all round once we (sadly) had to leave. We spent many an evening enjoying a quiet drink with Nely, who really is the star of the show. She is a one-woman phenomenon! Constantly busy, she does all the cleaning and waitressing herself, whilst also serving behind the bar, chatting to the children, giving travel advice etc. and with a constant smile on her face! The rooms are basic but clean and contain everything you need for a self-catering holiday. The pool and surrounding area is immaculate and although the poolside backs onto a fairly busy road, we really weren't bothered by it at all. Moraitka town centre is a 2 minute walk away and full of tavernas, whilst Mesonghi is only a 10 minute walk. We found the tavernas on both beachs superb. Having said that, we enjoyed many meals at the apartments, cooked-to-order by Makis on his grill. Delicious!
Makis isn't 5* accomodation, but we wouldn't have wanted it any other way! To feel so comfortable and welcome during our stay was what really made our holiday this year so great.

Spent 2 weeks at Makis Studios recently. Very disappointed in the lack of cleanliness of the 2 bedroom apartment. Towels and sheets changed only once. Bins emptied every other day. Bathroom - no bigger than a normal shower tray. Never properly cleaned - no vent or fan. No aircon at all. Plastic plates that had seen better days - all scratched and dirty - very unhygienic!
Had to ask for a kettle as it took forever to boil water in the saucepan! Nowhere to prepare food. There was only 2 rings in the draining board to cook on. The beds were comfortable, but no mattress cover and thankfully having read other reviews - took my own pillow. The ones there were lumpy and dirty. On a positive note - the pool was lovely and very well maintained and built.
The main road was in front of the pool and therefore at night rather noisy - but you got used to it.
The Makis family are friendly and if you wish to eat there, the food is very good. On a final note we were not leaving until 8.30pm, but although our rooms were not needed - we were charged 20 euros to keep the room until 6.00pm!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the back - less noise from the bar and the road.

When you first arrive the pool, bar and open air restaurant look lovely, but unfortunately the rooms did not. The furniture was old and dusty, the kitchenette was poorly equipped with badly scored plates and bowls, dirty and stained cutlery, mugs which had seen better days, in fact you would find better at a jumble sale. There was no kettle and it took at least 30 minutes to boil water in a saucepan to make a cup of tea. After many request a very small kettle appeared. The bed linen was old and thin with no mattress cover - the nights were extremely hot so perspiration went through the sheet onto the mattress. The pillows were old and lumpy (luckily I took my own). There was only one change of linen and towels during the two week stay. The bathroom was dreadful - wet room style - but it was old and dirty. During our stay the washbasin was never cleaned and the toilet only occasionally. Bins were not emptied daily and the rooms were only given a quick sweep and an occasional mop. Altogether an unpleasant experience. However, the owners were very pleasant and the food in the restaurant was good although with a limited selection. I would not stay here again.
